He also says "Don't be afraid, John" in chapter 2, and if Chapter 2 is John being given a premonition, Garcia showing up at the last minute to save him with that one liner is the premonition coming true.
I think its impressive John, in the span of one year, was accused of butchering a family, sent to a psych ward, exonerated for murder, released from the psych ward, met a woman, fell in love, got married, and then got divorced. What a year.
Also fought multiple demons and stopped a cult from bringing about Armageddon. I'm imagining that after the ending where he goes with Lisa, he ends up living a fairly normal life and he occasionally thinks back and goes: "Man, 1987 was one crazy year."

It makes sense that the only demon to appear in all three chapters is the mirror demon. Nothing haunts and torments John more than himself and the darkness he’s unable to remove regardless of his devotion to god and the faith. All the people he couldn’t save or wasn’t enough to protect, like the Martin family and the other children who died when he didn’t, who he feels personally responsible for. His greatest personal demon is his own reflection.

The first time I played this, I did the stupid thing of walking down the road, obviously the truck came along and in a panic, I whipped out my crucifix and the truck flattened me. a) Crosses do not work on trucks. At least not on this truck. b) This encounter made me laugh so hard I nearly choked. I was immediately sold. I LOVE this game.

I just noticed that, after John gets grabbed by the demon in the clinic on Day 1 of Chapter 3, when you have to hide while on the stretcher, you can clearly see the Loss meme on one of the curtains which is both hilarious and absolutely twisted
I like the Alu subplot a lot cause its just kinda funny that a demon summoning cult would look at a demon and go "Uh, we don't know why he's here, and tbh we didn't really want him here, just try your best to ignore him"

Fun fact (Spoilers): There's a reason why Gary will answer questions from John, and it isn't just "Haha, I'm evil, look at my plan!" It's because in demonology, Astaroth is the demonic prince of accusers and inquisitors. While being referenced in 2k B.C., a lot of info on him comes from the 16th century, where many demonologists have similar tales of Astaroth corrupting through knowledge, and being willing to answer any question put forth to him, since he loves the psychological/knowledge aspect of corruption. Beelzebub the Pestilent/Gluttonous, Lucifer the Tyrannical, and Astaroth the Corruptor, if you will. Astaroth would take souls in exchange for knowledge (e.g. giving math/science eurekas, or unveiling hidden treasure, etc)

Does anyone else think it's a bit heartening and sad that Greta, the dog that was with the orphanage kids, was willing to charge out into the corn field and try to protect the kids from whatever was out there? She was an old dog from a line that worked with missionaries, so she might have had an idea or was breed to help deal with what was out there, but she still went out to try and protect them all from the thing terrorizing them. She might have even been doing well, considering how things were quiet for a full two days, before it finally got her, but that might have been her trying to buy time for them to get out and they just didn't know what that was what she was doing... Sad, but she still tried to protect them like her ancestors did in the past, even after all that time...

Also a great glimpse into how John might become in the future. As badass as Father Garcia is, nobody is born that way, and he likely became the shotgun-wielding, one-liner dropping, demon slayer we know through terrible horrors and deeply traumatizing moments that he found it in himself to push past and use it as knowledge and experience to help handle things better in the future. On the other hand, what we experience in the game is John's trial and judgment. The question is whether he would emerge from the Hellfire as a traitor who succumbed to the temptations of demons, as another tragic casualty in the war between good and evil, as a scared and broken man who never wishes to face the devil again, or as a battle-hardened warrior of God worthy of carrying the torch passed by Father Garcia.

Regarding John's "vision from God", I agree. It's been said that God uses his angels to give messages to mortals because to hear God's voice unprotected would be so glorious and so perfect that a human being would die from its overwhelming authority. A being of white light speaking directly to John would have to be an angel. And who is (was) the angel of light? That's right. Lucifer the Morningstar. Appearing to John in his original form, but so twisted that to listen to his demands you couldn't mistake him for an angel unless you were terrified out of your mind. Now, ngl, being raised catholic, the first thing I'd be doing would be invoking Saint Michael in a panic. I ain't equipped to fight demons, I'm going to have to phone a friend to tag in for me here.

SPOILERS IF YOU HAVEN’T FINISHED THE VIDEO/GAME YET!! I don’t know exactly why, but the reveal that John was one of the twins that survived Miriam Bell absolutely stunned me. Like jaw on the floor. That was the moment where all the pieces clicked for me. What a game, and what a story.
It's actually a very common plot twist where the MC turns out to be the extension, offspring, or somehow deeply connected to the final boss in the past in many fiction works. Like one example I could think of is when Ichigo, the main character from the manga Bleach, is actually a hybrid of human, shinigami (first antagonist), hollow (second antagonist), and even a freaking quincy (final antagonist). It makes the final battle more personal and gives so much closure for the ending. But that plot twist of John caught me off guard too somehow. I legit like went, "Holy crap wow!" when that was revealed 😅
Halfway through the video, it dawned on me who it was, and after that I couldn't stop grinning whenever a Gary letter popped up. I know what I'm commenting on his next upcoming video(s)... whenever that is and if I remember.

He is an actual content thief & that has been proven beyond a shadow of a doubt. This isn't an opinionated thing. He is 100% caught red handed stealing scripts & journalism from hardworking & underpaid journalists.
Its not the typical "i'm guilty because I couldn't save her" trope that gets me. Nah. Its the "i'm guilty because, in my cowardice, I condemned a soul to death and bottomless torment" twist that makes this an outstanding story for me. 10/10. I can't wait for a movie or hopefully series adaptation. Can't wait for the Garcia shotgun scene. I truly think this story has more depth than the conjuring.
I'd almost be worried a media adaption won't do the game justice, or they wouldn't go as hard. If someone lets Airdorf have significant creative control and input, and will let the feature go as dark as it needs, by all means throw money at him for a film or maybe a mini series.
Good adaptations are hard though. In general there's this conundrum of mimicking the game too exactly versus changing way too much and totally missing the spirit of the original. It's difficult to strike the right balance and people don't universally agree on what the right balance is.

Something to note is that Alu does not appear in the lore of Abrahamic religions whatsoever. An Alu is a species of malevolent Sumerian demon, arguably much older historically than anything in the Abrahamic religions. My head canon is that Alu in the game is an entity altogether separate from the Cult or Hell, though still very malevolent. Its unwanted summoning and appearance, as well as Gary's apprehension towards it, suggests it is competition for the Cult / Antichrist, not an assistant for it. An agent of Hell wouldn't deliberately attempt to frustrate the summoning of the Antichrist, and as a demon himself, Gary / Astaroth should be able to communicate with it - but can't.
Well, if we take the easter egg with the other cult leaders and the eldritch thing gifted to Gary seriously, we can say that other mythology exist in universe. Alu being a demon from a different mythos is totally plausible.
If i had a nickel for every time there was a popular indie horror game series with atari-inspired visuals to emphasize the retro 80s timeline where there was a purple character that had a seperate appearance where they were more pink thus leading to questions of if the same character or if it's a seperate character all together, i would have two nickels.

FAITH has such a cool art style. It's genuinely unsettling despite intentionally being in a medium that allows for such little detail. But it makes those full-screen moments of smooth animation hit ask the harder.
More from a lore standpoint than a graphical one, the entire premise of the story is what terrifies. And those animations can be pretty damn horrifying, ngl. The whole series is a masterpiece. @@Kendreyek IIRC, they're not actual _babies,_ but instead fetuses. It's an abortion clinic. They aren't yet alive, ergo haven't been exposed to sin, ergo don't _need_ to be saved.
Another way to apply the metals of Father Ward's crucifix would be the imagery used in the tabernacle. Gold represents holiness and was used for the ark, the mercy seat etc. Silver represented separation and was used for anything that touched the ground so the tabernacle would be separated from the sinful world. Bronze is symbolic of judgement and was used for the alter of burnt offerings. In chapter one, John is an ordained priest, holy to the Lord. In chapter two, he has been separated from his ministry. In chapter three, he is an instrument of judgement upon Gary. And, at the end, he is restored to his former station, not by the church, but immediately by God.
I realize Gary is just a human like you and me. All the horrors build him up to be a visual monster. But then you see him and he really is a human just like you and me, a human can be like that. And that is just as terrifying. I love how differently the”humanity is the scariest” concept is shown in horror even if im extremely late to realize
Also the parallels to Jesus(or maybe John the Baptist). Gary is just human but also the messenger of the unholy trinity, he is the Way for the demonic invasion and the anti-Christ.
SPOILERS: I think the bird in Amy’s poem/riddle is John. All the colors of the symbols coordinate with their respective people (the chalice being pink, the star being red) and the bird is the same blue as John. Around 3:21:00 or so Wendigoon talks about how John is one of the original 12 kids who Sister Bell originally tried to sacrifice, which lines up perfectly with the line about the bird: “spirit bird arriveth from afar and cometh back to roost”. He’s coming back to finish what he started, whether he wants to or not. I could also be delusional so who knows
WAIT OK I just had a moment where something clicked for me: real birds show up a lot in Ch3, I'm thinking specifically of the dead bird outside the clinic and then in the maze-ish situation when you get jumpscared by birds flying at the fence. Obviously the first is symbolic for "bad things here", or more specifically, "bad things for John here", knowing that he'll be following the trail bc this is a trap. ...A trap. The birds in the fence later are TRAPPED. Maybe this is nothing but it does feed my theory that John is and was always going to be the portal to hell, as per Gary's "and sometime's, one [a portal] comes walking right up to you...hello John" Anyway, I will continue to freak out about this
1:13:11 That note makes the entire game better all by itself, the moment where it just shifts from something you would read on a regular news paper suddenly becomes a direct attack at john for the sins he had committed. Plus the voice acting and the music in the video heightening the build up of the end of a note. This video game is amazing, and this video displays just how good the game is.
I feel like there’s two ways of interpreting that note: 1. John isn’t the saintly person we think he is, and he’s committed murders off screen 2. John IS a good person, a fragile person who is easily manipulated by guilt, and Gary, being a charismatic, gaslighting cult leader, is trying to manipulate John into taking credit for things Gary himself did.

Also, slight musings on how significant it is that Gary says "Gary does not love you!" as one of his final words to you if you get the true final boss. I mean just think about it. It's his catchphrase that he loves people. It's what he keeps telling his cultists and even enemies. Well, one of two things. The other is that he's a normal human being. And his visual design supports this kind of idea. His being is entirely defined by his two great lies: One that he is human and that he loves everybody. Throughout the game, even when he is mocking and sneering at John, he never goes so far to actually exude hate like, say, Tiffany does. In fact he goes the opposite route and acts charismatic, friendly, supportive even, praising people all the time and telling them how much he misses them and such. He acts similarly with his enemies even. He never calls John bad words, never curses at him, even sarcastically questions if John is on his side. Even when mentioning that John stopped his plans by going back to Amy, Gary kinda waves the question aside and says something like "But then you went and...took care of that." Gary's entire persona is defined by him appearing like a normal human being and having this friendly, jovial outside that is the perfect mask for the demented, hideous things he does and wants on the inside. So after considering ALL of this to know just what kind of person Gary is, both as a mask and as a demon of deception...just imagine how pissed off he is that he openly gives you the antithesis of his catchphrase. I mean even as a demon, Gary is defined by him saying "Gary loves you" in a way that begets ownership. He loves you, so you belong to him. This goes on in a lot of notes on repeat. So imagine the elemental, near feral rage he is feeling right there to make him say "I don't love you. I don't want you. Go away!" essentially. Truly puts into perspective how much of a thorn in his side John is. That Gary willingly removes his mask, both his physical human shape and his jovial, friendly attitude and basically screams at you to go away and stop bothering him. All this emotion and meaning delivered in five little words...

It makes sense that the only demon to appear in all three chapters is the mirror demon. Nothing haunts and torments John more than himself and the darkness he’s unable to remove regardless of his devotion to god and the faith. All the people he couldn’t save or wasn’t enough to protect, like the Martin family and the other children who died when he didn’t, who he feels personally responsible for. His greatest personal demon is his own reflection.
I haven't thought of it like that! It's obvious that John deals with a lot of self hatred but to tie that in with the mirror demon is a nice touch!

It's because in demonology, Astaroth is the demonic prince of accusers and inquisitors. While being referenced in 2k B.C., a lot of info on him comes from the 16th century, where many demonologists have similar tales of Astaroth corrupting through knowledge, and being willing to answer any question put forth to him, since he loves the psychological/knowledge aspect of corruption. Beelzebub the Pestilent/Gluttonous, Lucifer the Tyrannical, and Astaroth the Corruptor, if you will. Astaroth would take souls in exchange for knowledge (e.g. giving math/science eurekas, or unveiling hidden treasure, etc)

Does anyone else think it's a bit heartening and sad that Greta, the dog that was with the orphanage kids, was willing to charge out into the corn field and try to protect the kids from whatever was out there? She was an old dog from a line that worked with missionaries, so she might have had an idea or was breed to help deal with what was out there, but she still went out to try and protect them all from the thing terrorizing them.
She might have even been doing well, considering how things were quiet for a full two days, before it finally got her, but that might have been her trying to buy time for them to get out and they just didn't know what that was what she was doing...

As badass as Father Garcia is, nobody is born that way, and he likely became the shotgun-wielding, one-liner dropping, demon slayer we know through terrible horrors and deeply traumatizing moments that he found it in himself to push past and use it as knowledge and experience to help handle things better in the future. On the other hand, what we experience in the game is John's trial and judgment. The question is whether he would emerge from the Hellfire as a traitor who succumbed to the temptations of demons, as another tragic casualty in the war between good and evil, as a scared and broken man who never wishes to face the devil again, or as a battle-hardened warrior of God worthy of carrying the torch passed by Father Garcia.

I don’t know exactly why, but the reveal that John was one of the twins that survived Miriam Bell absolutely stunned me. Like jaw on the floor. That was the moment where all the pieces clicked for me. What a game, and what a story.
It's actually a very common plot twist where the MC turns out to be the extension, offspring, or somehow deeply connected to the final boss in the past in many fiction works. Like one example I could think of is when Ichigo, the main character from the manga Bleach, is actually a hybrid of human, shinigami (first antagonist), hollow (second antagonist), and even a freaking quincy (final antagonist). It makes the final battle more personal and gives so much closure for the ending.
But that plot twist of John caught me off guard too somehow. I legit like went, "Holy crap wow!" when that was revealed 😅

Also, no, his narration is not good, it's condescending & rude, to a point where it feels very strongly like he is making fun of or mocking the material he's reading. He reads it as if he's reading a rude comment & is using a "mocking" voice. It's awful & absolutely destroys the tone of the rest of the video. But yeah, do not watch Internet Plaigarist. He is an actual content thief & that has been proven beyond a shadow of a doubt. This isn't an opinionated thing. He is 100% caught red handed stealing scripts & journalism from hardworking & underpaid journalists.
Its not the typical "i'm guilty because I couldn't save her" trope that gets me. Nah. Its the "i'm guilty because, in my cowardice, I condemned a soul to death and bottomless torment" twist that makes this an outstanding story for me. 10/10. I can't wait for a movie or hopefully series adaptation. Can't wait for the Garcia shotgun scene. I truly think this story has more depth than the conjuring.
I'd almost be worried a media adaption won't do the game justice, or they wouldn't go as hard. If someone lets Airdorf have significant creative control and input, and will let the feature go as dark as it needs, by all means throw money at him for a film or maybe a mini series.
Good adaptations are hard though. In general there's this conundrum of mimicking the game too exactly versus changing way too much and totally missing the spirit of the original. It's difficult to strike the right balance and people don't universally agree on what the right balance is.

Something to note is that Alu does not appear in the lore of Abrahamic religions whatsoever. An Alu is a species of malevolent Sumerian demon, arguably much older historically than anything in the Abrahamic religions.
My head canon is that Alu in the game is an entity altogether separate from the Cult or Hell, though still very malevolent. Its unwanted summoning and appearance, as well as Gary's apprehension towards it, suggests it is competition for the Cult / Antichrist, not an assistant for it. An agent of Hell wouldn't deliberately attempt to frustrate the summoning of the Antichrist, and as a demon himself, Gary / Astaroth should be able to communicate with it - but can't.
It not being a demon of hell, but something altogether older could also explain why it partially bypasses priestly resistance to possession
Well, if we take the easter egg with the other cult leaders and the eldritch thing gifted to Gary seriously, we can say that other mythology exist in universe. Alu being a demon from a different mythos is totally plausible.

Fun fact: the "Elevator Game" is actually based on an urban legend. The floors you go to match up with the directions to a T, as well as the woman you encounter on the 5th floor. There's a horror movie coming out this year inspired by it as well :)

Father Garcia is one of the coolest fucking characters I've ever enjoyed, just a Hispanic priest with a shotgun. I fucking love this game. I love the characters. I love the detail. I love the lack of detail. It is probably one of the most interesting games I've seen in 10 or so years.

For me, that final prayer to Amy and seeing John, blood covered and exhausted, has to be one of the hardest moments
FAITH has such a cool art style. It's genuinely unsettling despite intentionally being in a medium that allows for such little detail. But it makes those full-screen moments of smooth animation hit ask the harder.

@@Kendreyek IIRC, they're not actual _babies,_ but instead fetuses. It's an abortion clinic. They aren't yet alive, ergo haven't been exposed to sin, ergo don't _need_ to be saved.
Another way to apply the metals of Father Ward's crucifix would be the imagery used in the tabernacle. Gold represents holiness and was used for the ark, the mercy seat etc. Silver represented separation and was used for anything that touched the ground so the tabernacle would be separated from the sinful world. Bronze is symbolic of judgement and was used for the alter of burnt offerings. In chapter one, John is an ordained priest, holy to the Lord. In chapter two, he has been separated from his ministry. In chapter three, he is an instrument of judgement upon Gary. And, at the end, he is restored to his former station, not by the church, but immediately by God.

SPOILERS: I think the bird in Amy’s poem/riddle is John. All the colors of the symbols coordinate with their respective people (the chalice being pink, the star being red) and the bird is the same blue as John. Around 3:21:00 or so Wendigoon talks about how John is one of the original 12 kids who Sister Bell originally tried to sacrifice, which lines up perfectly with the line about the bird: “spirit bird arriveth from afar and cometh back to roost”. He’s coming back to finish what he started, whether he wants to or not. I could also be delusional so who knows

WAIT OK I just had a moment where something clicked for me: real birds show up a lot in Ch3, I'm thinking specifically of the dead bird outside the clinic and then in the maze-ish situation when you get jumpscared by birds flying at the fence. Obviously the first is symbolic for "bad things here", or more specifically, "bad things for John here", knowing that he'll be following the trail bc this is a trap. ...A trap. The birds in the fence later are TRAPPED. Maybe this is nothing but it does feed my theory that John is and was always going to be the portal to hell, as per Gary's "and sometime's, one [a portal] comes walking right up to you...hello John"
Anyway, I will continue to freak out about this
1:13:11 That note makes the entire game better all by itself, the moment where it just shifts from something you would read on a regular news paper suddenly becomes a direct attack at john for the sins he had committed. Plus the voice acting and the music in the video heightening the build up of the end of a note. This video game is amazing, and this video displays just how good the game is.
I feel like there’s two ways of interpreting that note:
1. John isn’t the saintly person we think he is, and he’s committed murders off screen
2. John IS a good person, a fragile person who is easily manipulated by guilt, and Gary, being a charismatic, gaslighting cult leader, is trying to manipulate John into taking credit for things Gary himself did.

Also, slight musings on how significant it is that Gary says "Gary does not love you!" as one of his final words to you if you get the true final boss.
I mean just think about it. It's his catchphrase that he loves people. It's what he keeps telling his cultists and even enemies. Well, one of two things. The other is that he's a normal human being. And his visual design supports this kind of idea. His being is entirely defined by his two great lies: One that he is human and that he loves everybody. Throughout the game, even when he is mocking and sneering at John, he never goes so far to actually exude hate like, say, Tiffany does. In fact he goes the opposite route and acts charismatic, friendly, supportive even, praising people all the time and telling them how much he misses them and such. He acts similarly with his enemies even. He never calls John bad words, never curses at him, even sarcastically questions if John is on his side. Even when mentioning that John stopped his plans by going back to Amy, Gary kinda waves the question aside and says something like "But then you went and...took care of that."
Gary's entire persona is defined by him appearing like a normal human being and having this friendly, jovial outside that is the perfect mask for the demented, hideous things he does and wants on the inside.
So after considering ALL of this to know just what kind of person Gary is, both as a mask and as a demon of deception...just imagine how pissed off he is that he openly gives you the antithesis of his catchphrase. I mean even as a demon, Gary is defined by him saying "Gary loves you" in a way that begets ownership. He loves you, so you belong to him. This goes on in a lot of notes on repeat.
So imagine the elemental, near feral rage he is feeling right there to make him say "I don't love you. I don't want you. Go away!" essentially.
Truly puts into perspective how much of a thorn in his side John is. That Gary willingly removes his mask, both his physical human shape and his jovial, friendly attitude and basically screams at you to go away and stop bothering him.
All this emotion and meaning delivered in five little words...
