Great video. Small pump is the way to go.. I tried squeezing the bottle stuff goes everywhere. 320,000 on my dpf. When it does eventually block up due to usage i remove. Fill with mr muscle oven cleaner. wash it out .....back flushing with garden hose and tap dpf with a hammer it pisses out the ash kinda red then grey. then replace and good to go.

Thank you for explaining what this fluid actually does for my car and what to do once the fluid is topped up. Had so many issues with my 2007 cmax and i've been trying to fix it myself with no clear instructions. Sooooo helpful

Great & helpful video, by the way, you don’t normally take the little green clip out of the cap, you just press it in to slide the cap off like a fuel hose fitting. 👍🏻

It's alright, but next time attach a hose to the overflow then into a bottle, so when the fluid comes out, not to mess up everywhere.

There's a Ford Focus Reset you can find online, I'm not sure if it applies to all Ford's or just the Focus. Its basically a set of instructions to reset everything.
You're instructed to perform different driving techniques such as:
Drive 40mph for longer than 30 seconds, stop then repeat.
One task is to drive for X amount of minutes above 60mph obviously using a motorway. Be careful, if your power has gone it takes an eternity to reach these speeds so I did it at night with less congestion.
Absolutely painstaking if you hit 50mph roadworks so you have to start again.
It helps if you're in 4th gear as the rpm will be higher & reach the temperature quicker for burning off soot. You are now at this stage burning off soot.
If the ECU decides to perform a regeneration too then the real cleaning begins. You can feel one side (or either?) of the centre console carpet become warm from the exhaust heating up underneath when the operation is in motion.
I ended up keeping my Focus as I learned how to fix almost everything DPF, Turbo etc etc but it really did test my patience.
Change your oil more often that you should. If sludge in your engine becomes loose & gets to the turbo feed pipe, especially with the filter in the banjo bolt, it will block up & blow the bearing seal/s on the turbo, 'Oil Starvation".
Obviously the last keeper didn't do any kind of service so it hit me with all the problems.
It's still going with just over 135,000 miles.
I use it for my job driving a lot so thought what's the point in buying something new.
    Sorry to go on 👍😴

@@cipiko I just wrote you a very long message to solve this but it's either been deleted by TH-cam or some other error but I think it's the former...
To reset the error code, buy an OBDII code reader/reset tool from a very well known seller site.
      They're black & yellow.
No video needed... just connect to your vehicles port, turn on the ignition ONLY.
Once connected, press the Read button, note down the codes for future reference.
      Now select Delete.
You'll be instructed to turn Off your ignition then back on again.
Leave it for a short period & you should get a message saying:
      !! Successful !!
      😎👍

Hi mate I just purchased a 2006 Ford Fusion 1.6 diesel with this precise problem.l started to drive the car home from where I purchased it ,was running ok but misfired at higher revs ,think the car was already in limp home mode , 2 miles down the road engine just stopped revving and then just cut out,had reached normal working temperature.towed it home 🤭was told by garage DPF needed cleaning and tank had run out of pat fluid ,removed DPF ,sent it off to have cleaned on flash cleaner and have litre of pat fluid on order . Obviously I now nothing about DPF chemical systems, but garage seem to ! Are you saying I may have got away with just topping pat fluid up ? Thanks,Dave .

Hi Leon, do you happen to know if the hose connector on the line that goes to the fuel tank on these dpf fluid tanks are available separately? I dropped the tank today to replace the sender and didn't realise this was connected. As a result the line connector which is attached by 4 little clips has broken as pictured here with the blue protector on. Hoping it is as the price of these tanks is extortionate!

Hi your car does not have this tank it's a completely different system it's the new of system you are going to need to get it plugged into a better scantool preferably Ford IDs or some sort of professional brand to get the proper code my guess is you've got a block DPF but you need to know the reason why they do have DPF pressure sensor problems but don't just replace this without finding exactly what is wrong first in other words this would need diagnosing properly

Cars that use adblue normally have a fillport that's easy to access (boot or In the fuel cap area), I have never seen a system like this before where its not user refillable bit odd if the car does not have a warning light to state this DPF fluid system needs refilling and just throws a "money light" issue (but i guess that's why it's not Meant to be driver filled so can make some money of the driver to fill it)

no self priming pump in the tank seems common now (so if you actually run out of fuel putting some back in might not work) , had a van outside the shop for 3-4 hours waiting for the second tow truck to come (first one had a bad back so couldn't go under the van to put tow cables on) as the van couldn't self prime, once the second person came he dragged the van down the road and managed to bump start it as he didn't have a fuel pump primer device on him (higher rpm I guess the high pressure diesel pump spun fast enough to drag the fuel into the pump and get rid of the air)

Hi mate yes it's a possibility the tanks do give problems the DPF get blocked they run low on fluid even the level sensor can give problems I don't know obviously the problem with yours as I haven't diagnosed it just make sure it's diagnosed properly and you shouldn't have any issues

Hi I got it plugged in again and there is a different fault after coming up interior light not dpf tank anymore it's like ECU thinks tank is empty but not . I'm afraid I've got gremlins! turned on heated seats and AC fan control nob and radio volume nob stopped working back working when disengaged heated seats . The initial fault was anti skid service required which comes on with like a traction control amber symbol on dash and puts car into reduced engine performance mode when I labour in top gear on motorway this happens I find it drive bit higher revs it doesn't come on as much but still once a week it resets when I switch car off. I have it 6 months and don't want to fork out any more cash do you think maybe it's looking like expensive fix possibly ECU. Also tempeture gauge on dash reading sub zero degrees Volvo S40 1.6 diesel 2008 thanks

Are you sure you have the filler pipe and the overflow the correct. I ask only because I have seen another TH-cam video that says the other way round, top pipe overflow and bottom one the filler.
Checked a manual I found online and you definitely have the overflow and feed pipes mixed up. Shame really, as it's a decent video apart from that.

3rd gear up to 70 then back off repeat, try it, nothing to lose, bit of time.

Worst advice ever! Just drive above 50mph for 20 or minutes continuously. The car should sort itself out, if it doesn't, you have other issues. To get the DPF to passively regenerate takes around 650c, driving at 115mph in 4th at 4200rpm, I could only get mine to 450c, far short of the temp required. You have plenty to lose by doing that, strain on the DMF, turbo and engine itself.

My local garage did a top up on my Mazda with the hand pump method. The chap that did it didn't open the overflow and just squeezed the stuff in and had lots spurt out over him. It needed a reset but the engine lights keeps coming back on. I used forscan and get codes that additive level is too low/empty, also codes won't reset with Forscan. I asked the mechanic if he managed to get enough in and he said if anything he got too much in as it all spurted back over him, of course I reckon it could've been the air pressure . Does anyone know if too much fluid can cause a fault code stating additive is low/empty (P1926-60 & P1932-60.)

The car is literally a bomb..... But if looked after well, is a trooper. Miss my old ford.
