Why Apple don't put under-screen fingerprint scanners on iPhones? They have gotten quite reliable in recent years and don't cover a considerable amount of the screen.
I mean they have a lock on the only secure face unlock; why go with the masses who failed in making their own version Face ID and had to revert to FPS? Even if they did, they’d be the only phone with two forms of secure biometrics, that would kind of embarrass the competition. I think they’ve made a deal with perhaps Samsung, to just use face unlock in order to continue to outsource screen manufacturing.

@@superiortoall22 I didn't mean they would need to go with the lesser secure version of Face ID like in Android phones. Why don't just stick on to the FPS? They are wearing those gloves either because their hands gonna get dirty and they don't want it or they are working with some sharp, dangerous equipment. In each case, you're left with ravishing your phone. Also, gloves usually don't work as intented on touch-screens, so if you were to open your phone easily with Face ID, you might not be able to control it as you want.

Most touch screen sensitive gloves work on phones but the average person will check their phone for notifications, so the ability for a quick glance is valuable. Can’t do that with my S23U but I can with my 14PM thanks to Face ID
i think Dynamic island is actually a step backwards, it might be smaller but becuase it sits further down the screen than a notch it actually takes away more screen space as is creates a bigger header in the OS, so you loose space for you apps, i have checked this with a 13 pro vs a 14 pro side by side, the dynamic island definitely intrudes on your media more.
if u hadn't gotten the message already since 2017, iPhone doesn't really care about screen space as long as the software/hardware looks "clean" and done "the apple way"
@@DE3P_Beats Exactly, the amount of screen taken up by OS is a much bigger issue in real world use than the size of the notch or island, but everyone talks about the notch as its the visible thing and it's more easily used as a selling tool when they gradually make it smaller.

I think the big caveat is that Apple is disappointing for the consumer who changes phones every year. I usually keep mine for 4-5 years, and my switch from the X to 14PM was great. My huge thing with the dynamic island is the fact that we have no option to shut it off. For anyone with a 14 Pro, at certain angles you realize how much less area the pill cutout would take if you could deactivate the pixels bridging both cutouts.
Interesting about the roadnap for the front of the iPhone but what about the internals? What is the roadmap for their battery technology? Lots of technologies seem to be talked about but none of them see the light of the day.
Only potentially interesting iPhone in the near future is SE if it is small enough. Not that there is too much cool things in Androidland either currently but there is a lot bigger possibility that one appears there.
Apple liles to brand itself as being ecologically friendly. Firstly they removed the charger from the box so that you have to buy it separately. Now they are resisting the standard USB-C until the EU forces them to have one on the basis of having a universal charger. Apple will comply eventually but they will make it so that only original Apple chargers will be able to trasfer data, while universal chargers will just charge your phone.
Automobiles evolved very rapidly 1900-1930, then they remained basically unchanged until the mid to late 70's (disregarding the changes to the exterior bodywork which were more or less for aesthetics).
I think I’m the tech community we all tend to forget a bit what the average consumer is after. Frankly they don’t care about 60hz or a notch or whatever else. They want a premium device made out of premium materials with good longevity and things like a reliable predictable camera, a good display, good speakers and integration with their other devices. No one device is going to be perfect and sure you can say that the iPhones might be expensive for what they are on paper But again you’re forgetting that people are happy to pay not only for the brand tax, but also for the reliability and for the comfort of knowing what to expect when they fork their cash over Same way that people buy a a Honda civic. It might be boring and might not be as good of value as a Hyundai feature wise for example, but you know what you’re getting with the civic. End of the day apple has more intelligent people than all of us analysing everything constantly. Sure they make mistakes, everyone does, but they know what they’re doing whether the hardcore tech community likes it or not
I use to love using the phrase "The iPhone Moment" to describe when a trend starts to grow exponentially. Now I find myself increasingly use the phrase "The Another iPhone Moment" to describe when a trend starts to plateau.
Don't understand the obsession with thin bezels, I'd rather have a full view of the screen while holding it. Same with laptops, as I want separation from background. It will NEVER happen, but I wish you could buy an iPhone like you would with a car, with the options you want or DON'T want. I have never used the front camera on any of my iPhones, or iPad (which I never used any camera on), I hate the notch, especially for something I never use.
2027 will be the 20th iPhone. Apple probably want to release something special, just like iPhone X in 2017. Under display everything is going to be quite interesting.
To the average consumer “no pun intended” the dynamic hole cutout seems to be heading into the irrelevant side of ideas, similar to 3D Touch in former iPhones. Hoping for an all screen option in the iPhone without any kind of notch while improving the front facing technology. Hoping lol Personally I will be skipping this years iPhone due to inflation in my area and lack of real world innovation. Not a fan of incremental updates as well.

Ive kinda had it with iphone. I "downgraded" from the iPhone 7 Plus to the iPhone 13 Pro Max. The high refresh rate is nice, but not enough to win me over.
How does under the display camera work without some occlusion? The only way I can see that work is if they have 2 under the display cameras and one of those uses the information it sees (combined with using AI because odd angles…) to complete what the other doesn’t see.
From a ten-years-ago perspective, it's kinda sad that these predictions can even be a thing, since Apple itself has become sort of underwhelming and predictable. Of course the smartphone is a very developed and established technology. But don't tell me they couldn't knock something out like in the old days if they wanted to.
In apple way, the dynamic island is not just a black pill shaped area, it will help underscreen sensors work better when they have to capture images without looking disruptive. Dynamic island is here to stay for 10+ years.
Idk how people even like it it doesn't even look good notch was better looking than this pill and it would be so irritating to see content on it coz there's space between the pill and bezels notch was still better than this
I'm waiting for usb c on an iPhone, then I'd get one as all my other devices use usb c charging. My S21 is great and android has been liberating but I just miss better app performance
If they gave us the ability to use external screen with iphone like Samsung Dex, you could just plug in a usb-c hub and turn your phone into a workstation. Then put M1/M2 chips into the iPhones and we're set.
I think that instead of the base iphone's getting 120 hertz they will probably just put a 90 hertz screen on it because they have already done pro motion branding for pros only
I definitely can see Dynamic Island rolling out on all models as it's sort of "Apple's thing" - I say sort of because there have been previous iterations on Android, but not nearly as flashy though. 60hz for the next few years is crazy but entirely predictable. The dreamer in me would love to see them use the old Mini lineup for their SE 4/5. However, I think we will be stuck on single rear camera models (i.e., 11, 12) for the next 2/3 generations of the SE at least.
I don’t like how Apple started making very minimal changes to their new phones, it barely looks or feels different from the previous iPhones. The design has barely changed over the years and it’s starting to get a little boring. It would be awesome if they started having different lines and types of phones like Samsung, because they will definitely do it better and you have more options
I hate the dynamic island because it takes up even more space of the screen for being farther away from the border. The topnotch is still less distracting. Will get the Galaxy S23 for the hole-punch camera.
Honestly if Apple were consumer friendly and environmentally responsible I'd consider another iPhone but after switching I like messing around with my phone and being able to repair.
I understand now how they will do the “under screen” camera. They will use a perpendicular projection tech ology combined with specifically textured, crafted glass to suspend the screen image under the “display” so essentially the screen is just glass, so the camera is able to be placed specifically to be able to see through this “screen”
As some one using the 14 pro. The notch was way better for video/gaming viewing. the tiny bit of screen above the island is very jarring and not very enjoyable. The features are cool but there isn’t really anything software related they do with the pill that they couldn’t of done with the notch just saying.
I’m wondering if we’ll ever get a really good behind the screen camera? For best results, you don’t want anything other than perfectly clear glass between the glass and the lens. I don’t believe that it’s the cameras so much, but rather the screen. I imagine computational work can partly compensate for the circuitry in front of the lens, but it can’t completely eliminate the problem. With a 12MP camera, it could work ok, but with the new hi res cameras coming out for front cameras, I think they’re up to what, 24MP, it’s going to be more difficult.
@@smartlearning6390 nope. Think of shooting through a glass window that has a window screen in front of it and then a wire mesh fence a couple of feet after that. If it were as easy as you think, it would have been done successfully already, and it hasn’t. The behind the screen cameras are total crap. The screens in front of that camera are poor as well. You can see that when you look at the screen at an angle. The “hole” is obvious, and yet, it’s still not good enough.
I would take a camera cutout all the day long over decreased front camera quality. With so many people taking selfies I would take a larger cutout for a better selfie camera
So…. I should just get the 13 then? I’ve got an SE 2020 and was thinking of waiting for the 15 but no physical sim, a cut out that actually takes up MORE overall space than the notch and an almost guaranteed price bump has me leaning towards the 13. (While it’s still available)
As someone who works in the cellular industry, I can say with confidence that most average consumers do not care about pro motion until they have had it in a phone. I’ll mention that it’s a feature in the pro models and I just get confused looks
It is so apple, that I am watching this video on my two year old Poco F3 that has a 120Hz AMOLED Display for which I paid 300$, hearing that apple users have to wait another two years and have to pay triple the price to get the same tech.
Honestly, on the iPhone, 60hz vs 120 doesn’t make that much of a difference in terms of everyday use and smoothness. When I compare a normal iPhone to a Pro one, yes, there’s clearly a difference but it’s overacclaimed in the tech world.
Keep in mind, if Apple get the tech to have everything under screen hardware wise, they could still keep the Dynamic Island purely software based. But remove it for movies or videos. Keep it for boring screens like settings, or the Lock Screen, as an identifying feature to let people know it’s an iPhone. But the physical hardware need would be gone
I'm calling it now: I don't think Apple is gonna go for a hole-punch camera. One of the main reasons for the notch and dynamic island are to make the iPhone identifiable from the front, just like they are from the back. The hole punch is used by budget Androids. I don't think Apple will touch it
This makes sense. Apple said the iPhone X design was the design for the next 10 years of iPhones. These rumors are pretty much following that statement.
the 12, 13 and 13 pro are all better deals than the 14 and the 14 plus. Apple's 14 series iphones and m2 macbooks have overestimated consumer appetite. Which is ironic because they actually made meaningful changes to the devices

In Dubai despite no tax, it has european prices but in Thailand i can get it for almost 25% less.
iPhone 14 non pro should had 90hz at least bruh. With the price tag of $799-$899.
I have the 14 Pro Max and I went to a store and compared it to the 14, and the 14 was awful, when you use all your life 60hz you won’t notice, but when you go from a 120hz screen is very noticeable, and also irritating, even my friends 300€ samsung A52s feels smoother, it has 120hz.
Cheap chinese phones for $300 have 120hz.

Wild assumption: they will add a foldable category to their line up within the next 4 years. I assume that will be the top of the product line and will position itself somewhere between iPad Pro and iPhone Pro Max. And it will have a Mx-Chip in it..
Mad respect that you are up at 3 o'clock still filming this
when will companies stop milking the camera game and give us some revolutionary new feature thing...
When people aren’t obsessed with living through their lens for a living…soooo never 🙃
Revolutionary feature is not what the world needs but a better software, better accessories and better battery while being lightweight, and better all-round reliable camera in all situations while being closest to color accuracy while catching the exact moment the exact tume you click shutter button
@@PSy84 the world may need those camera features you speak of but that does not mean it NEEDS to be in a phone, those features exist already, there is no "necessity" that the world needs it on a phone. I do agree on the battery life, battery technology is lagging greatly behind the rest of the phone.
@@superiortoall22 face unlock was super fun to deal with during COVID.... Took them until it was over before releasing an update allowing it to work with masks
@@Jst4vdeos I mean a once in a lifetime pandemic? Yeah no one saw that coming. Meanwhile any cold weather or job with gloves, makes the FPS useless, there’s no workaround for that. 2D Face unlock is practically unusable unless you’re in the right condition with nothing covering your face or perfect lighting conditions. Now you’re stuck taking off your gloves to unlock your phone. I would know because I owned 5 phones in the last year with FPS 😅. I greatly prefer Face ID
@@superiortoall22 I didn't mean they would need to go with the lesser secure version of Face ID like in Android phones. Why don't just stick on to the FPS? You've mentioned that while people are using gloves and such, FACE ID is more reliable. But here's the catch: If someone's wearing gloves, would they want to touch their phone at all? They are wearing those gloves either because their hands gonna get dirty and they don't want it or they are working with some sharp, dangerous equipment. In each case, you're left with ravishing your phone. Also, gloves usually don't work as intented on touch-screens, so if you were to open your phone easily with Face ID, you might not be able to control it as you want.
@@boraunlu9496 like I said, they’d have two forms of secure biometrics, they’d have a monopoly over the other manufacturers; 🤷🏽♂️ probably made a deal not to include it as part of a deal for Samsung to make screens for them.
And that’s not necessarily true; many jobs here in the US require gloves due to strict safety rules, not necessarily due to something being dirty or dangerous. I wore gloves when I deployed, made the Pixel 6 Pro a huge inconvenience since I had to tear off my gloves every single time or when I went hiking and my Z Fold 3 was useless unless I was gloveless.
Most touch screen sensitive gloves work on phones but the average person will check their phone for notifications, so the ability for a quick glance is valuable. Can’t do that with my S23U but I can with my 14PM thanks to Face ID
I really appreciate Face ID more than that tiny notch of screen space
i think Dynamic island is actually a step backwards, it might be smaller but becuase it sits further down the screen than a notch it actually takes away more screen space as is creates a bigger header in the OS, so you loose space for you apps, i have checked this with a 13 pro vs a 14 pro side by side, the dynamic island definitely intrudes on your media more.
if u hadn't gotten the message already since 2017, iPhone doesn't really care about screen space as long as the software/hardware looks "clean" and done "the apple way"
@@DE3P_Beats Exactly, the amount of screen taken up by OS is a much bigger issue in real world use than the size of the notch or island, but everyone talks about the notch as its the visible thing and it's more easily used as a selling tool when they gradually make it smaller.
Hey guys, careful about the lights on set.
It looks like Marques is in one studio while Andrew and David (who look super bright when compared to Marques) are in a different one.
Great episode nonetheless.
Any flip iphone planning?
Awesome Video Guys also thank you David and MKB for the amazing blast from the past.Nice Cars & the unboxing video of IPhone use it in Good Health MKB.✌️
The dynamic island notifications will continue on the phone as that is the best UI to show those currently and provide additional functionality
Love David with his yawns 😂
Only potentially interesting iPhone in the near future is SE if it is small enough. Not that there is too much cool things in Androidland either currently but there is a lot bigger possibility that one appears there.
Apple liles to brand itself as being ecologically friendly. Firstly they removed the charger from the box so that you have to buy it separately. Now they are resisting the standard USB-C until the EU forces them to have one on the basis of having a universal charger. Apple will comply eventually but they will make it so that only original Apple chargers will be able to trasfer data, while universal chargers will just charge your phone.
“And then you gotta TWEARK” 😂😂
Apple 15 mini please. Keep it the same size as 5.4 inch. Better camera and screen pleaae
Tech is like so maxed out today. The minuscule differences really doesn’t improve the life of the user much.
I often think about how our phones will evolve over the next 10 to 20 years. According to this, it will be slowly. 🐢
Automobiles evolved very rapidly 1900-1930, then they remained basically unchanged until the mid to late 70's (disregarding the changes to the exterior bodywork which were more or less for aesthetics).
It's all about the software now, not the hardware
phones will age out like laptops and the innovation will be in glasses (with the phone acting as a number cruncher for them)
The phone is tapped out. Not much left to do with it
I think I’m the tech community we all tend to forget a bit what the average consumer is after. Frankly they don’t care about 60hz or a notch or whatever else.
They want a premium device made out of premium materials with good longevity and things like a reliable predictable camera, a good display, good speakers and integration with their other devices.
No one device is going to be perfect and sure you can say that the iPhones might be expensive for what they are on paper
But again you’re forgetting that people are happy to pay not only for the brand tax, but also for the reliability and for the comfort of knowing what to expect when they fork their cash over
Same way that people buy a a Honda civic. It might be boring and might not be as good of value as a Hyundai feature wise for example, but you know what you’re getting with the civic.
End of the day apple has more intelligent people than all of us analysing everything constantly. Sure they make mistakes, everyone does, but they know what they’re doing whether the hardcore tech community likes it or not
They certainly have smart people working for them but definitely not very smart audience
Bring the Mini back 😢
I switched from the S22ultra to the 14pro max. Without the watch, it felt like a downgrade.
Switching from a 14 pro max to a s23+ felt like a huge upgrade
The lighting is a little bit wrong.. MKBHD you need to fix it
To the average consumer “no pun intended” the dynamic hole cutout seems to be heading into the irrelevant side of ideas, similar to 3D Touch in former iPhones. Hoping for an all screen option in the iPhone without any kind of notch while improving the front facing technology. Hoping lol Personally I will be skipping this years iPhone due to inflation in my area and lack of real world innovation. Not a fan of incremental updates as well.
But when are we getting in glass Touch ID ?
man just the shots of the s10e make me miss mine. Even though I switched to the iphone 13 mini a few weeks ago, I still have an itch to just switch back to the s10e.
min 04:14 sums up the future of the iPhone very well
The Face ID and front camera is already under the glass though??
Omg 😂Marques at the end.
Where did you get this information??
Ive kinda had it with iphone. I "downgraded" from the iPhone 7 Plus to the iPhone 13 Pro Max. The high refresh rate is nice, but not enough to win me over.
They could always do under panel Touch ID
How does under the display camera work without some occlusion? The only way I can see that work is if they have 2 under the display cameras and one of those uses the information it sees (combined with using AI because odd angles…) to complete what the other doesn’t see.
at 4:20 is wo weird to see a host constantly yawning like are you sleeping at night haha
From a ten-years-ago perspective, it's kinda sad that these predictions can even be a thing, since Apple itself has become sort of underwhelming and predictable. Of course the smartphone is a very developed and established technology. But don't tell me they couldn't knock something out like in the old days if they wanted to.
Watching this from my budget android phone running at 120hz with a holepunch camera
What is the purpose of the dynamic Island? It’s dynamic so you can have under display Face ID and have the dynamic lsland
In apple way, the dynamic island is not just a black pill shaped area, it will help underscreen sensors work better when they have to capture images without looking disruptive. Dynamic island is here to stay for 10+ years.
coz it's easier to fool iPhone users🙊
Idk how people even like it it doesn't even look good notch was better looking than this pill and it would be so irritating to see content on it coz there's space between the pill and bezels notch was still better than this
I'm waiting for usb c on an iPhone, then I'd get one as all my other devices use usb c charging. My S21 is great and android has been liberating but I just miss better app performance
I have been using iPhones for a few years and I am so excited for USB-C
If they gave us the ability to use external screen with iphone like Samsung Dex, you could just plug in a usb-c hub and turn your phone into a workstation. Then put M1/M2 chips into the iPhones and we're set.
@@Razertw I'd love that, but apple won't us having that functionality rather than use an iPad or MacBook
@@Lenniefinch I know they won't. They want us to buy a MacBook, iPad and an iPhone lol
I'm still waiting for the finger print ID to come back, under panel obviously. I'm not a fan of face ID at all.
Marques is so correct at the end. It’s how I went from iPhone 12 base model to iPhone 14 pro max 1tb. I mean if I’m already paying that much why not?
why do the two guys also have to reach for the mic to speak? I know you techy guys but can't you adjust the stand?
I see a framework laptop in the video. Is it really good or just a sponsored product?
Why did Marques decide to use an Electro-Voice RE27 instead of the Shure SM7s the rest of the crew uses?
Just dropped in to say that the thumbnail is so weird 😂 been hovering around my home page for some days, I just couldn't ignore it anymore!
Guys stop using the bright white lights
This makes me feel good abt buying the 14 pro bc it’ll age real well😂
MKBHD, can you please cite your sources??
I’ve had an s21 and an iPhone 13. I don’t notice the notch as much as I didn’t notice the s21 camera.
6:19 Honestly, the thicker side bezel all around probably plays a bigger part in the poor screen to body ratio than the notch does.
I hate the dynamic island because it takes up even more space of the screen for being farther away from the border. The topnotch is still less distracting. Will get the Galaxy S23 for the hole-punch camera.
You can tell David is half asleep. Too funny. I love how these three are real!
Honestly if Apple were consumer friendly and environmentally responsible I'd consider another iPhone but after switching I like messing around with my phone and being able to repair.
You can actually mess around and repair your iPhone if you know how to properly do it.
So question I got the 14 should I have gotten the 14 pro? I mean tbh I’m not into like the crazy crazy tech tech stuff
Just got my 14 pro max on a 3 year contract. So I got a good 4 years to wait for a complete overall display. Think I will wait that extra year.
I understand now how they will do the “under screen” camera. They will use a perpendicular projection tech ology combined with specifically textured, crafted glass to suspend the screen image under the “display” so essentially the screen is just glass, so the camera is able to be placed specifically to be able to see through this “screen”
who are you
Bro, you from future ?
Why not just use the tech that today's under display cameras use? Tbf it kind of sucks now, but in a few years it will probably become better.
This however will make the OLED screen have a depth effect, making it look like an LCD
Love the Indiana Jones ending bit
As some one using the 14 pro. The notch was way better for video/gaming viewing. the tiny bit of screen above the island is very jarring and not very enjoyable. The features are cool but there isn’t really anything software related they do with the pill that they couldn’t of done with the notch just saying.
iPhone died when 3D touch was replaced by the AWFUL HORRIBLE haptic touch. And the camera bump is comically disgusting
With a 12MP camera, it could work ok, but with the new hi res cameras coming out for front cameras, I think they’re up to what, 24MP, it’s going to be more difficult.
think of shooting pictures through a glass screen , depends upon type of glass , if office glass is very clean , photos are still okay to take
@@smartlearning6390 nope. The “hole” is obvious, and yet, it’s still not good enough.
what car is it?
I would take a camera cutout all the day long over decreased front camera quality. With so many people taking selfies I would take a larger cutout for a better selfie camera
So…. I should just get the 13 then? I’ve got an SE 2020 and was thinking of waiting for the 15 but no physical sim, a cut out that actually takes up MORE overall space than the notch and an almost guaranteed price bump has me leaning towards the 13. (While it’s still available)
i have the 13 pro and it’s my favorite phone ever.
“Professional” phones…
I laugh every time I think about this. People are so silly 😂
Got distracted by the t-shirt.. Couldn't finish the vid lol
As someone who works in the cellular industry, I can say with confidence that most average consumers do not care about pro motion until they have had it in a phone. I’ll mention that it’s a feature in the pro models and I just get confused looks
2040. The iphone se will feature a notch.
It is so apple, that I am watching this video on my two year old Poco F3 that has a 120Hz AMOLED Display for which I paid 300$, hearing that apple users have to wait another two years and have to pay triple the price to get the same tech.
I wish under the panel was finger print reader.
I don't think Apple will touch it
i feel like inm lodsed my braincells watching this
This makes sense.
Apple get away with so much compared to literally every other phone manufacturer and the worst part is they charge so much more lol
I solved my problem, I just bought an S23 ultra. I can change the melody myself, and I also have youtube vanced. You can wait another 100 years for something "new".
Apple needs to change something. They have become … dated.
They could have extended the notch using software instead of having the dynamic island...and saved space
