    This is literally the best video explaining valve adjustments on TH-cam that I have found. Thank you!!!

    best video that exists for this task. No music to obscure what is being said, no mumbling "ums and ahs", clear photography and explanation of each step - with warnings. I'm doing mine this morning! Thanks very much guys

    Thanks for this video! Ive never adjusted valves on anything before and found your tutorial to be extremely thorough! Cheers from the US. 🍻

    There are tons of videos on TH-cam that show how to adjust the valves on a DR, but yours is the only one that has decent video/lighting and a good explanation to go along with it. Thank you!

    Maaan appreciate this so much, for noobies like me, there can not be a clearer way of explaining this. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! Greetings from Bulgaria. ✌😁

    Like other bikers say this is the best vid for dr 650 valves. My manual says 0.08 - 0.13 for both inlets and exhaust but this doesn't make sense to me so I will go with the vid. Cheers fae Bonnie Scotland.

    I had a ZRX 1200 and it was a nightmare to do this. Once I switched over to a fun motorcycle (DR650) it’s been a breeze. Thanks for the help brother! ❤

    Thank you, NONE of the other videos mentioned the correct TDC nor did they have the video clarity to show where the feeler gauge goes.

    They’re basically lawnmower engines, extremely simple...but tried and tested technology. I always preferred to remove all spark plugs, and the rotate the engine by leaving it in 1st gear and simply moving the rear wheel in the direction of travel. You get a lot more leverage that way,and you can literally see the flywheel moving in millimeters, it’s very precise. This is how tappets we’re set on Norton Commandos and Triumph Bonnevilles when they were new.

    Great video mate, I've had a drz400 for sum time now and have just bought my first dr650 mainly for the simplicity and easy maintenance. Pretty over shims and this bike cruises effortlessly on the highway.

    Using your video I set my intake valve to 0.10 and exhaust valves to 0.19 and prior to adjusting them I couldn't get a 0.05 in the exhaust and intake I'm pretty sure the guy I bought it off of never adjusted the valves

    Great video mate. How often does this need to be checked. Or is there a sign that the bike gives off.

    • @doubleenvelopment6480

      4x4EastCoast hard to start when hot, or loud ticking sound can often be a sign they are out

    Great video, I just picked up my first dr650 today and compared to my old dr350 it seems like the 650 makes a lot more valve noise than my 350 or any other bike I’ve ever owned to be honest lol

    • @DirtRider22a
      @DirtRider22a 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’ve yet to check the valves but it seems your bike sounds similar to mine when idling so that’s reassuring for now

    After first watching the KLR650 step by step valve check/adjustment video and then this DR video I am now convinced not to get the KLR.

    Which are the exhaust valves and which are the intake valves? And are all done on the compression stroke? Cheers.

    • @MrStevecro
      @MrStevecro 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      if I can jump in .... yes, both done on compression stroke at the same time. Exhaust valves at front of motor, nearest exhaust pipe

    I am abit confuse,I am asking.are the intake and exhaust valve checked at the same time when on the compression stroke.basically,I'm asking do you turn the engine just once on to do both intake and exhaust valves

  • @giovanhagar
    @giovanhagar 28 วันที่ผ่านมา

    It's much easier to get the feeler guage in if you take the bolt out between the valves.

    I pulled the timing cover off and all of my oil leaked out, bike had been sitting for a year anyone know whats wrong?

    • @doubleenvelopment6480
      @doubleenvelopment6480  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Could be a few things overfilled (if winterised), Potential needle and seat carby problem, fuel could leak into the motor "overfilling it", more so if the overflow tube is blocked. does the oil smell like fuel? Is the tank near empty? Is the oil colour white?

    • @oBlackCoffee
      @oBlackCoffee 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@doubleenvelopment6480 Thanks for the reply, the oil didn't smell of gas neither had a off color. The oil seem to have drained out of the timing cover/crank bolt cover as if it was a drain plug. Odd, maybe since it's been on a kickstand for a year and not started?

    • @doubleenvelopment6480
      @doubleenvelopment6480  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@oBlackCoffee Sorry, I thought you were talking about the top alignment cover (the small one). If it was on the side sand and the you took the centre one out , It's likley to do that.

      You're right. My bad, I had an different engine on the bench to film the adjustment (which was 8mm) as I couldn't get a good camera angle on the DR. I'll see if I can add a notation. Cheers.
