Best Motorcycle Chain TOOL! & How to use one (CBR500R)
This is my favourite motorcycle chain tool for cutting/ breaking achain, pressing on the plate and of course riveting (burring / flairing) a master rivet link. This video was recorded on a Honda CBR500R with a really worn chain, and came good with this special tool. Also another tool mentioned is the Motion Pro Sprocket Jammer.
As always, do your own research. This video is intended as a general guide in how I utilise a tool. If in doubt always consult the manufacturers instructions/ service manual.

Common Adjustable lever issue (missing part).
มุมมอง 402 ปีที่แล้ว
Have you got adjustable levers on your bike? It could be missing a part. This episode we reveal an overlooked issue that many aftermarket adjustable motorcycle levers face. A bushing that has to be removed from the old hand lever and put in the adjustable one. We have a prime example here on a Yamaha R3, YZFR3.
Overlooked issue on DR650 (Cush drive - sprocket carrier) Bearing
มุมมอง 2.4K2 ปีที่แล้ว
I've found this to be quite a common issue on DR650's! over the years I've seen several times the wheel bearings are secure but the cush - drive/ sprocket carrier bearings have excessive play. Are you checking these independently? Check yours now, leave a comment I'd be curious if others have come across this or if it's well documented on forums. www.mobilemotorcycleservices.com.au

EXPLAINED! Motorcycle Oil Ratings "VISCOSITY,"
It's much easier to get the feeler guage in if you take the bolt out between the valves.
Like other bikers say this is the best vid for dr 650 valves. My manual says 0.08 - 0.13 for both inlets and exhaust but this doesn't make sense to me so I will go with the vid. Cheers fae Bonnie Scotland.
Thanks for this video! Ive never adjusted valves on anything before and found your tutorial to be extremely thorough! Cheers from the US. 🍻
Thank you for the video … :) ,can you please give me an advise ,i want to buy a DID KMR 520 chain riveter and i just came across your video ,what do you think ,should i buy your press or the DID ?,thank very much
I had a ZRX 1200 and it was a nightmare to do this. Once I switched over to a fun motorcycle (DR650) it’s been a breeze. Thanks for the help brother! ❤
Best video for sure, direct and to the point. Thanks!
much better video than those other ones. Thank you
I have a question sir, why does the exhaust get so hot quality
Excellent, clear video pictures as well.
This tool sucks. Has "absolute measurement" and "slack measurement". Wtf even is that? Which side am I supposed to use? I ended up using a ruler and returning this garbage
Great simple to the point video, tell the facts without a 15 minute life story ...Thanks..
Maan.. Thank you A LOT!!!
Very good job of explaining both scales in the tool, and what they are used for.
Thanks for the video now I confident to do it myself cheers
I have a dr650 with 2000km and can wobble the Cush drive about 1mm measured at outer edge of sprocket , would this be considered excessive play? can’t believe it would have a bad bearing already
That might just be the cush drive rubbers allowing some flex
You can easily check by pulling the wheel. I'm changing all the bearings on my 97 and really the only one that was bad is the cush bearing I'm doing them all anyway. If you bought it used you have no idea of they just a shit job installing the last ones and they come from sazuki with hardly any grease
Very good video, thanks from Montana!!
Thanks!! just purchased our first DR650 - great bike !
Value would be if the motorcycle manufacturers created their own specific measuring device and it came with the bike considering how often the chain must be checked. I know. I am expecting too much when you can buy a ruler at Walmart that was made in China for 87 cents.
Legend, I live in Coogee wanna come over and do it lol can’t bear paying a mechanic to do it. Guess I’ll give it a crack
Can you check cush bearing with wheel on the ground or do you have to lift it
Great video mate, I've had a drz400 for sum time now and have just bought my first dr650 mainly for the simplicity and easy maintenance. Pretty over shims and this bike cruises effortlessly on the highway.
Maaan appreciate this so much, for noobies like me, there can not be a clearer way of explaining this. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! Greetings from Bulgaria. ✌😁
Thank YOU! Great Video!
All the dr riders are Australian!
Quite a safety issue to spread the word about. THANK YOU.
What's a "cobby"?
The Carburator. "CARBY"
Happeneecon my old bike with about 35000km. Then again on my new bike with only 6000 km (riding in deep mud n sandy water) total failure, destroyed the bearing, hub n rubbers. Replacing with the warp 9 dual beating hub. Never again 🤞
I am abit confuse,I am asking.are the intake and exhaust valve checked at the same time when on the compression stroke.basically,I'm asking do you turn the engine just once on to do both intake and exhaust valves
Did you ever find an answer to your question? I got the bike apart right now lol and now I'm wondering the same
After first watching the KLR650 step by step valve check/adjustment video and then this DR video I am now convinced not to get the KLR.
I can sum it up for you like this..."The DR is a bush pig, the KLR is a pig". LOL.
Heyy how goes it !!! So I ride and what not but I haven't ridden in a while now like just maybe a teaser this year after going so much emotional hard to explain life changing pain stuck to nothing but rock bottom, I have a 2005 Honda CRF250R that's down but still my first virginity • my Grandpa that I had lost in my life , a veteran , a husband,Dad and My Grandpa, he had a Yamaha TT 500 and it sat in the barn for my inter life and 30 years plus, and never touched it yet alone wasn't allowed to touch it , he passed I took it apon myself to fix it , and was everything I could have the best opportunity to be honored to fix a what I call a military tribute in honor of him .,,...... And the rest isn't cool to talk about let alone History ..... BUT I HAVE THIS 1981 SUZUKI DR 500 I just got AND HAVING TROUBLE WITH THE VALVES CUZ I FUCKED ADJUST THEM !!! IM JUST TRYING TO RIDE OUTT MY ROCK BOTTOM, if anyone can help me please lmk🙏🙏
💯
Great video, I just picked up my first dr650 today and compared to my old dr350 it seems like the 650 makes a lot more valve noise than my 350 or any other bike I’ve ever owned to be honest lol
I’ve yet to check the valves but it seems your bike sounds similar to mine when idling so that’s reassuring for now
Great channel. The videos are brilliantly to the point and the knowledge depth is abundantly clear. I’ve just bought a DR650. About to ride from Byron Bay to WA through the desert.
The plug caps on Japanese bikes have for decades been pretty much universally 10kΩ resistor caps.. Besides that you can get generic ones from NGK which are actually identical to OEM for half the price or less. I stand corrected: The required type for the DR650SE is NGK VD10F. You should be able to get them for less than 10€ / 10USD a piece from automotive suppliers. NGK produces most of their spark plug caps with no resistor - 1kΩ - 5kΩ and 10kΩ.
I hate this supid tool waste of money its useless
They are like this virtually from new. Mine has only 1500k on the clock and it has play in it, poor design!
Same here. 3000km and here I am watching this video for an explanation as to why my sprocket seems wobbly. I wonder if warranty covers this…
The nut on the tappet is 10mm not 8mm
You're right. My bad, I had an different engine on the bench to film the adjustment (which was 8mm) as I couldn't get a good camera angle on the DR. I'll see if I can add a notation. Cheers.
I pulled the timing cover off and all of my oil leaked out, bike had been sitting for a year anyone know whats wrong?
Could be a few things overfilled (if winterised), Potential needle and seat carby problem, fuel could leak into the motor "overfilling it", more so if the overflow tube is blocked. does the oil smell like fuel? Is the tank near empty? Is the oil colour white?
@@doubleenvelopment6480 Thanks for the reply, the oil didn't smell of gas neither had a off color. The oil seem to have drained out of the timing cover/crank bolt cover as if it was a drain plug. Odd, maybe since it's been on a kickstand for a year and not started?
@@oBlackCoffee Sorry, I thought you were talking about the top alignment cover (the small one). If it was on the side sand and the you took the centre one out , It's likley to do that.
@@doubleenvelopment6480 oh okay just wanted to be sure that was normal, didn't realize. Thx
I'm a first time scooter buyer who wants to buy SYM 300c GTS EVO 2015 model which has 88 000km\54 600miles the price tag is $1000\R15 000ZAR & I'll be travel 116km\ 72miles daily commute to work do you think I should buy the maxi scooter
Did you end up getting the scooter?
The best video on using this tool. All the others waste time on how to adjust the chain and then cover the tool up with their hands so you can't see what they are doing and how to use the tool. Congratulations, my friend. Nice job.
Thanks for the awesome video mate! For anyone who is wondering... You need an 8mm allen key to open the flywheel inspection cover and a 10mm allen key to open the timing plug. Great idea to give the engine a quick clean before this procedure and be careful not to strip the timing plug! Torque specs and other DR650 info is available here: www.vincestrangmotorcycles.com.au/DR650ServiceData.pdf
Are the specs for valve clearance also valid for pre 1996 models?
2.3 or 2.4 is to much oil i use 2 quarts and its perfect the oil cooler has some oil left in it
The chart you shown is a great help. I didn't know that the 10w-40 oil is only recommended up until 40 celsius and in my country, temperatures exceed 40+ degrees.
Thanks for the video mate. I had a brain fart and kept getting it 180 out, your video reminded me perfectly how to do it correctly :)
Very informative video. Made it simple to trouble shoot my intermittent stumble which felt like a loss of spark. All my resistance measurements were the same as yours, once repaired. Bad resister in one of the spark plug caps. Thanks.
listen to this shit ....bike wouldnt start i pull the first plug wire off , stick a screwdriver in it to check spark to ground and bike fires right up with only the back plug installed .......sounds like spark plug wire cap is the problem
Very well explained mate 👍
I come back to this video every time I do this task for a refresher. Cheers, mate!
Can you do an oil change easily with this?
