Stress will kill you quicker than anything, and the secret he was hiding, had to have caused a lot of stress. Well the environment I grew up in exposed me to a lot of homophobia, but when I was growing up, the two funniest guys on TV were Paul Lynde, and Charles Nelson Reilly. Their personal lives were nobody's g-d business, but they both died young, so that must've taken a toll.

I saw "Match Game" a time or three, and Brett Sommers, ( Jack Klugmans, aka, Oscar Madisons wife), loved Charles Nelson Reilly. That's when this hetero teen said, I ain't goin for none of that homophobic crap no more.

Paul Lynde quit and walked away, he was not fired, there's a big difference. He was a Incredible actor and a comedic genius in all areas of his career film, television, stage and radio. His acting ability and his voice is something that many of us will always remember.
    RIP Paul Edward Lynde June 13, 1926 - January 10, 1982

@FactsVerse I think you're doing a wonderful job. Your videos are always very entertaining. Sometimes, the wordings or titles could be a little bit more accurate. I was raised to never speak badly of the dead. So accurate descriptions are always important, plus it adds to your credibility and reliability, and that, in turn, gives you more viewers. I would love to see one of your videos on the sad ending of Angelo (Angel) Florez (1995), Some people may remember him from the 1977 New Mickey Mouse Club. He was a talented actor, dancer, and musician who passed away in his early thirties and his buried with his grandfather.
Similar to the story that you did on Montgomery Clift. An actor who died at an early age and had a terrible car accident due to heavy drinking and his face was severely damaged, almost stopping his career. He was a good friend of Elizabeth Taylor who helped him get his career going again. Sadly, he lost his life due to poor health and had a heart attack at age 45 in 1966. Great job that you did on the Montgomery Clift. video.
Another idea for a video would be on the beautiful child actress who quit hollywood at her peak Virginia Weidler. Most people will remember her from the movie the Philadelphia Story with Catherine Hepburn, Jimmy Stewart, and Carry Grant. Sadly, she passed away at a young age if I remember correctly in her forties.

    • @ccastaneda669
      @ccastaneda669 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@matthewschwartz6607 Unfortunately, Montgomery Clift had a severe alcohol and drug problem due to prescription medication, which he himself even admitted. "Clift asserts that the actor's use of alcohol and prescription drugs stemmed, primarily, from a near-fatal car accident in 1956. He used them to numb his physical pain."
"It is commonly believed that drug addiction was responsible for Clift's many health problems and his death. In addition to lingering effects of dysentery and chronic colitis, an underactive thyroid was later revealed during the autopsy. The condition (among other things) lowers blood pressure; it could have caused Clift to appear drunk or drugged when he was sober." But due to his excessive drinking and drug use, no one noticed.

Paul Lynde didn’t get the respect he deserved. His delivery on jokes was spot on. He could take his nervous laugh and make others laugh as well. As we know with other comedians, pain can sometimes create a comedic situation. I know from my own experience, that when my parents died, the only way I could cope was through humor. I think Paul Lynde was in that same situation.
It was sad that he died young. Paul Lynde had so much to offer. I tried to watch everything he was in, and each movie or show was always great!
I feel like we put too much emphasis on a person’s sexuality. It never mattered to me if he was gay or not. There were other actors that hid their sexuality, and I think that’s a shame. If Paul Lynde were alive today, I think he would have struggled with coming out. But who knows?
Bottom line is he was great at what he did. ❤❤

Paul Lynde got his start in a Broadway Review called "New Faces of 1952" along with Alice Ghostly and Eartha Kitt, and it was written by a young comedy billed as Melvin Brooks.

I have always loved Paul Lynde on bewitched, Hollywood squares, and many other of his performances.
but I have heard that at parties, if he got mildly drunk he was a Gas!
but as the evening and his drinking continued, he would become more and more Belligerent and insulting.
not sure if this is true , but I can totally understand his anger and fear at having to hide his sexuality and fully
sympathize with what he had to do to keep his career, and not be branded as a deviant back in the dark ages
    of being Gay 😒

Paul Lynde wasn’t just a gay actor, he was a rather hilarious gay actor at that. And after he left Hollywood Squares in the 1970s, the show was never quite the same. And don’t forget that episode of I Dream Of Jeannie, which famously featured Paul Lynde playing an IRS Agent! That was classic.

Hollywood never pays attention to an actor's strengths and challenges. Paul Lynde played the hand he was dealt. If he was out, his career would have been over before it started. Even today, he would have been offered "gay", tragic characters who are bitter and catty.

He and my mom share a birthplace! As a result, my family would always make a point to see anything he was in, though I daresay it was interesting watching the more conservative members of the family try to square the fact that this guy with decidedly camp sensibilities was also somehow from Ohio (the recent trend of Ohio jokes are well-earned, believe me)
