    I started in the dirt in 1977. Great fun. Those "cool goggles" are a must there, especially when riding with others. (The kind with foam surrounds and vents). I like both types of riding but at 50 my reflexes and balance keep me on the street now. Modern dirtbikes would probably kill me! Note-the "hooliganing" that Jon does IS great practice for emergency situations, except maybe the wheelies.

    Emergency braking can be tricky. Progessive pressure is key to help the weight compress the tires to get more rubber on the pavement which gives you more traction to stop. I always cover my clutch while riding too, and keep in mind what gear your in, so you can quickly drop a gear or two and utilize engine braking with progessive brake pressure. Just have to practice and know the bike so you know how the effectively utilize your tools. Practice is the best thing you can do.

    Emergency braking= Scoot your butt to the rear of the seat and manage the front brake and look for a way out. (I have actually been in those complications and had to think fast.) Never try to turn your bike if you know you can't avoid it. (Never turn it sideways because you might slide under a moving vehicle or trailer.) Plant your feet and try to time the impact and jump off the peggs. With that done roll into a ball or slide your feet forward. It depends on your speed. Always be prepared to jump off the bike straight up. I have landed in back of pickup trucks, went over top of cars and totaled out there car and the bike in a split second. They like to pull out in front of you because bikes are hard to see. Always stay alert.

    Yaaay dirt bikes!!! I’m a dirt to street girl myself. Had fun watching you out on your first ride in the dirt. You did great, kept your balance, tried something new, you’re a rockstar.

    I TRIED to start learning to ride on two wheels in dirt. I'd ridden quads from the time I was a kid, so the clutch and breaks were no problem... But the throttle... I bought a little dirt bike and I whisky throttled so bad and scared the bajesus out of myself. All two times I rode it. Fast forward nearly a decade and I'm riding on the street at least every weekend.

    I started off road when I was 6. I'm 52 now. But I learned everything about bikes from off road. Street tires really don't like off road.

    I started in dirt, ATC's and dirt bikes then graduated to street. Every once in a while I take my Sporty down dirt/gravel roads around where I live and it's not bad at all. Jon's right stay off the front brake in the dirt until you have more experience with it, it's a sure recipe for disaster. Go slow and learn to "feel" the bike sliding around a bit. They are different animals, but dirt to street is probably easier to learn than the other way. Ride safe and have fun !

    I feel the funk. I've been in it too. These fires up here aren't helping either. I'm actually contemplating just taking some family leave and spending a month or two at home with my clones. This whole year is testing my mind and emotions greatly. And it's funny that you want seasons. I'm done with seasons since oregon changes seasons weekly. Hahaha

    My adventures are "Fly by the seat of my pants" and "figure it out as I go". I cringed when Jon went over that speed bump doing a wheelie. I don't think you were in 1st gear when you stalled at the stop sign. You can get 4 seasons in the mountains of Arizona. I started riding on dirt (mud) rutted roads in Alaska. I like riding on the street the best, but I'd like to have a bike I could ride in the dirt to get to some neat places. Ride safe Jackie.

      @JackiesMotoGarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Shoot! I was wondering why I stalled. I try to downshift to first every time I stop. Thanks for looking out!
      I think I'm so used to seeing Jon do crazy things that it doesn't even phase me anymore. That's probably not a good thing!!
      Hope you're healing up and doing okay!

      @@JackiesMotoGarage It happens to me too, I just don't stall. As soon as I feel the stuttering and the engine starting to knock I pull the clutch back in and push the shifter down and try again. I doing pretty well, just really missing riding. Gotta wait till my bone is good or it'll just take even longer. Thankyou.
