Martha is my favourite character because she represents this childlike purity that nobody else has. Even Veronica, the one we're supposed to be rooting for, is swayed to the "dark side," so to speak. But Martha never really grew up, and she has this sort of innocence to her that's both beautiful and really hard to watch.
I think the part where Martha tried to kill her self was when she lost a little innocence. Remember at the beginning on the musical she said “I’m a sucker for happy endings”. And then at the end she said “are there any happy endings”. She lost some of that innocence throughout the show. Actually when you think of it, a lot of the characters changed throughout the musical
Special reminder that Ram was dead when she dreamt of him. Everything she wanted to live for; Her friend, her crush: they all left her. That dream, to her, was Ram coming back to get her to go with him.
I can't imagine how hard everything got for Martha. Like, the boy she was in love with fucking died. I know the play is played for laughs, but god dammit. Martha.
Nothing in this musical is done just for laughs. Everything has a double meaning (exaggeration but most scenes that aren't one off lines carry more meaning) and it's not the English teacher double meaning either.

I love this so much. I feel like it's a really sweet and real view from Martha's perspective. Often, other animators make Ram disgusted at times or confused with her affection towards him, but here, we see that he really liked her back then. It makes it even sadder when you think of how he treated her in high school, and how she still held on. He was one of the few kind people to her, no matter what (until he became older). Its hinted at atleast two points that the kind kindergarden Ram is still there: In the first song, Beautiful: I think its ram that wonders why he acts like a jerk In the song 'Big fun': He shows he still cares for her by asking why she acts 'weird' and that if she stopped acting weird then people would like her. Although what he says could be dismissed as him being a drunken jerk, I don't believe so. To my ears, He seems to soften albeit slightly, when he speaks to Martha at this point.

tbh the musical writers really butchered her characterization and made her cringy when she's meant to be sympathetic as an outcast character (the movie did it better). im glad this helped you see past that flaw and like her ^^

The thing I noticed was that when she said, "Croquet lawns", the only heather we really ever saw in full detail was Heather Chandler. Maybe it's because she's dead ??

I want to do one where there's a style shift between Martha's fantasy and the reality. And at the bridge ram's ghost is a hallucination on her part, arm outstretched on the Pegasus, beckoning Martha to come with him. And there are tears in her eyes and she takes his hand. She smiles, tears in her eyes. And at the last cord, as she falls, still smiling sadly, the pastel colors used for the "fantasy" fade out to grey. Then black.
These are all such awesome ideas, ugh! If only one of us could actually make these. I mean, technically, any one of us could. But that would mean working and taking time to do things... lol

What I really like in this version is Martha's expression when she says "and a horse with wings". She looks sad and that gives another interpretation of this passage: she looks sad because bc she knows that "horse with wings" doesn't exist, that this is absurd and this reminds her that this is only a dream. She, reunited with Ram seems as absurd as this horse in her mind. She knows that it's impossible. It makes this song even more heartbreaking
I'm five years late man, and holy crap does this hit deep. Martha is a great character, one of the only innocent one out of the musical to. She did nothing wrong but exist, I love this animatic.

i watched heathers for the first time yesterday and this part had tears pouring down my face it was unbelievably emotional i feel so much for martha. She didn't want to grow up and be like the other heartless kids she wanted to have that childlike love she had with ram and when he died she realized that her fantasies were over and she couldn't cope with that she wanted to die she wouldn't have to grow out of her childish behaviour and wake up to the cruel world which we live in she wanted to be young and pure forever not her appearance but in her heart she didn't want to let go of someone / something that had been apart of who she was for so long so she tried to end it all.
now we're all grown up and we know better, now we recognize the way things are, certain boys are just for kindergarten, certain girls are meant to be alone. Me: No, you're not alone, everyone here is. That's highschool for you.
She clung on so much on that tiny part of happiness in her life in order to keep her head up, but clung on so much and for so long that she couldn't see any other way for her to be happy than in a dream, in distant memories...
I feel so bad for Martha. Her only friend abandoned her for the Heathers, the only boy she ever loved was killed, and she was completely alone. She got severely depressed with nobody to turn to. She built a fantasy world where everything was happy to distract herself from her suicidal thoughts for just a little while. Just long enough for her to forget that she was alone, and that nobody cared about her anymore. It just gets more depressing the longer you think about it.
Yeah, it's too bad that Veronica broke the illusion that Ram sent the invitation. Not only did it show her that Ram never returned her feelings and it broke her heart that her best friend did something cruel to her. I know it was a lie, but that kind of thing would have probably made Martha less jaded and depressed in the long run.

i know what happens after she falls off the bridge. she survives with a few broken ribs according to an article that i read that tells me what "The Heathers" is all about. and Martha is a victim of bullying anyways so this song makes sense.
This song still hurts a bit. I remember how it feels to essentially be a Martha. Your friends abandon you, and not even a loving family can save you. It takes everything you have to stay alive.
This is late but, Martha had a miserable life because of her interests and appearance. So far we only know two people in her life (Besides her parents, probably.) that saw past her outer exterior, and saw her for who she really is. Because of that she became very close and obsessive over them, and felt that she need them to be validated or that they were the only people who saw that she had any value and offered her comfort. After losing both of those things, I would assume that her depressive episodes and self loathing got worse. And I can only imagine, the one guy that used to treat her with some ounce of decency dying pushed her over the edge., and on top of that her being abandoned by her only friend. It's a lot deeper than her being upset over some guy who didn't like her back.

I want to do one where there's a style shift between Martha's fantasy and the reality. And at the bridge ram's ghost is a hallucination on her part, arm outstretched on the Pegasus, beckoning Martha to come with him. And there are tears in her eyes and she takes his hand. She smiles, tears in her eyes. And at the last cord, as she falls, still smiling sadly, the pastel colors used for the "fantasy" fade out to grey. Then black.
These are all such awesome ideas, ugh! If only one of us could actually make these. I mean, technically, any one of us could. But that would mean working and taking time to do things... lol

I like how when Veronica gets a chance to get something from the Heathers, she "craves a boon". However, later in the same song, when Martha expresses her wish concerning the Heathers, she says "I'd like them to be nicer".
She's such a sweet soul.
This song is really funny in the beginning but then you realize what the lyrics really mean towards the middle and at the end it's just really deep.

What I really like in this version is Martha's expression when she says "and a horse with wings". She looks sad and that gives another interpretation of this passage: she looks sad because bc she knows that "horse with wings" doesn't exist, that this is absurd and this reminds her that this is only a dream. She, reunited with Ram seems as absurd as this horse in her mind. She knows that it's impossible. It makes this song even more heartbreaking
I think Martha has the best voice when it comes to singing. Of course everyone else is AMAZING but Martha is probably the best.

I'm five years late man, and holy crap does this hit deep. Martha is a great character, one of the only innocent one out of the musical to. She did nothing wrong but exist, I love this animatic.
When i realized she is literally my spirit musical character. Like i love her so freaking much. Like literally when i heard this song while watching the musical the first time i was like, "Wait, what. Martha no...nO, No, NOOOOOOOO" And it makes me happy someone did this song so well.

i watched heathers for the first time yesterday and this part had tears pouring down my face it was unbelievably emotional i feel so much for martha. She didn't want to grow up and be like the other heartless kids she wanted to have that childlike love she had with ram and when he died she realized that her fantasies were over and she couldn't cope with that she wanted to die she wouldn't have to grow out of her childish behaviour and wake up to the cruel world which we live in she wanted to be young and pure forever not her appearance but in her heart she didn't want to let go of someone / something that had been apart of who she was for so long so she tried to end it all.

I feel so bad for Martha. Her only friend abandoned her for the Heathers, the only boy she ever loved was killed, and she was completely alone. She got severely depressed with nobody to turn to. She built a fantasy world where everything was happy to distract herself from her suicidal thoughts for just a little while. Just long enough for her to forget that she was alone, and that nobody cared about her anymore. It just gets more depressing the longer you think about it.
Yeah, it's too bad that Veronica broke the illusion that Ram sent the invitation. Not only did it show her that Ram never returned her feelings and it broke her heart that her best friend did something cruel to her. I know it was a lie, but that kind of thing would have probably made Martha less jaded and depressed in the long run.

i know what happens after she falls off the bridge. she survives with a few broken ribs according to an article that i read that tells me what "The Heathers" is all about. and Martha is a victim of bullying anyways so this song makes sense.

This song still hurts a bit. I remember how it feels to essentially be a Martha. Your friends abandon you, and not even a loving family can save you. It takes everything you have to stay alive.

As cute as it is, kindergarten Martha was kinda obsessive over Ram, ngl-
This is late but, Martha had a miserable life because of her interests and appearance. So far we only know two people in her life (Besides her parents, probably.) that saw past her outer exterior, and saw her for who she really is. Because of that she became very close and obsessive over them, and felt that she need them to be validated or that they were the only people who saw that she had any value and offered her comfort. After losing both of those things, I would assume that her depressive episodes and self loathing got worse. And I can only imagine, the one guy that used to treat her with some ounce of decency dying pushed her over the edge., and on top of that her being abandoned by her only friend. It's a lot deeper than her being upset over some guy who didn't like her back.

the innocence of a child is something so pure and it's so sad to know that it is lost with time, Martha is so precious to this little world, because she had managed to preserve that innocence and overnight, that innocence was just taken away, what a well developed character, much more developed than in the movie
