    I hate videos that spend ages explaining every little detail, this was beautifully to the point nice and fast. Loved it!

    Hi Dave, this is the one that got me over the hump. The menus have changed a bit over time, but it's still relevant. I shared my first image with the family from a set of timelapses taken last night 06/15/23, and they were thrilled. Maybe more than more me....

    Nice. I'm gonna have to try this method for my star trails. I use an action to get my star trails done but here you seem to have more control. Thanks for the tip.

    Awesome tutorial. I was wondering if you have to use the lighten setting when blending the photos, is there other options, also is there a way to show the star trail linings along the lake or river when the stars reflect onto the lake?

    • @DaveMorrow
      @DaveMorrow  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Alana Thomson (Lanilou15) thanks:) To have the stars reflect in the water naturally, you'll need to be within a few feet of the water. Technically the stars do reflect at any distance, the camera's sensor just isn't able to pick it up from long distances as shown in this example.

    Dave, Great Tutorials, I'm learning a lot. I have Photoshop CC and Lightroom CC and Bridge. I noticed that you are using "Luminosity" as part of your photoshop processing but didn't mention it in this video. Should I get it? Where do I get it?...and do I have to get it in order to process multiple files for star trails? Thanks

    • @DaveMorrow
      @DaveMorrow  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Matthew Hawk awesome! I created actions for night sky stuff ( www.davemorrowphotography.com/2014/10/star-photography-photoshop-actions.html ) and use Tony Kuyper's for landscape stuff ( goodlight.us/writing/luminositymasks/luminositymasks-1.html ) You don't need any actions for masks for star trails, just the video above:)

    Great tutorial Dave! One question, I'm new to Photoshop/Lightroom & I don't believe I have Bridge. What's the purpose of it & can I achieve the same results w/o it? Thanks!

      +Grady Justesen Bridge comes with Photoshop CC. I use it to layer images. Cheers & thanks:)

    Hey Dave, I followed your tutorial until the blending step, but blend options are all greyed out when I select more than one layer/picture. Any idea why that is? My photos are in JEPG, 8 bit RGB. I am using CS5. Any pointers appreciated!

    Hi Dave. Its great tutorial. One ques .. about the Auto Align Layer.
    I have around 100 images of a Timelapse Sequence of stars. I want to blend all to make a Star Trail. But when I did the Lighten Blend in PS I observed the Trail is not fully smooth. At the middle of the trail breaks and shifted little bit. This is due to may be middle of the shooting my tripod shakes and displaced a bit.
    I tried the Auto-Align Layer > Auto in PS as per your tutorial but that did not fixed this issue. I technically need to align all the foregrounds so the star will comes to its correct position to give a continuous smooth trails.
    Can you advice how to fix this?

    • @DaveMorrow
      @DaveMorrow  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, glad you liked it! If auto align doesn't fix it you're probably out of luck.

    About how long should it take to auto-align 80 photos? I don’t see much progress on my progress bar.

    • @DaveMorrow
      @DaveMorrow  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on processor speed, hard drive type and RAM. Not sure

  • @StevenDavisPhoto
    @StevenDavisPhoto 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    very nice. i wouldnt tell people to merge their layers down like that though. better to leave things non-flattened for future editing.

    • @DaveMorrow
      @DaveMorrow  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Steven Davis When you're editing 80, 75MB tiff files that's not feasible to leave them in a folder. I flatten all the time even when doing regular editing...

    • @StevenDavisPhoto
      @StevenDavisPhoto 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      good point. haha. maybe just caveat it then. i just like to avoid flattening if i need to come back and change something, so i avoid it if i CAN, but your case makes sense for flattening.
