Unpopular opinion by Alan Moore:”Every film nowadays is a remake of a previous film, or a remake of a television series that everyone loved in the 1960s, or a remake of a television series that everyone hated in the 1960s. Or it’s a theme park ride; it will soon come to breakfast cereal mascots.” Any comments?
I agree about ramping up the horror in WoT. When I read WoT as a teen the Ways scared the hell out of me. I'd love them to treat the Ways like they did the Mines of Moria or Cirith Ungol in the LoTR films .
Lol yeah, I found all of the books to be suspenseful with serious horror/ fantasy notes. Hence the numerous metal tribute bands that have surfaced over the years. 😆
I feel like a major-ish plotline that could be cut entirely is the Shaido post-Lord of Chaos. When Couladin dies, have them team up with the White Tower, and then Dumai's Wells be the end of it. Really helps keep Perrin more "in the plot," too.
That kind of would ruin the plot with the Prophet, since the Prophet plot gets resolved in less than 10 minutes without the Shaido, and Perrin never gets the opportunity to team up with the Seanchan against the Shaido, and Battle of Malden can't happen because the Prophet won't have channelers so he can't just replace the Shaido and do what they did without channelers, making the Whitecloak plot happen without the Shaido and all the refugees that Perrin has to take care will also become more difficult. This kind of fucks up all of Perrin's storylines between Dumai's Wells and the Last Battle. And makes characters like Faile, Aram, Tam, have nothing to do between then either.
@@gracjanlekston134 When they cut something like the Shaido, they replace it with something else. They could make the Shaido thing... Whitecloaks or something. Or maybe some of those stories don't make it in at all. You're not gonna get everything.
@@roccaflocca4312 I mean in this case, unless you suggest we also remove the story of the Shaido from the Fires of Heaven, with the conquest of Cairhien and Dumai's Wells, then removing them after the Dumai's Wells would actually take more time, since you would have to set up a new enemy to take their place from scratch, and you would have to completely change everything, because the only possible replacements for the Shaido are Whitecloaks and the Prophet, neither group uses channelers, so all the battle tactics change completely since the Battle of Malden happened the way it, only because Shaido had so many Wise Ones.
@@miguelbranquinho7235 I didn't mind that because there was at least intrigue, better pacing, and more consistent development. Particularly because Elayne is not ta'veren.
They could find a way to work that into the story without having to use Portal Stones. Maybe use a Ter'angreal like the rings used in the Accepted's testing.
Dream sequence when Rand thinks Ishamael is TDO and is becoming aware of his identity as the Dragon. Boom! Also a fun way to kind of explore TAR and the dream world prior to it really being dived into.
Everyone who went through that made choices because of what they lived through.. that and the time spent would have to be fixed without the 2nd portal stone
Don't take Aviendha off :( I really don't like the relationship between Rand and Elayne. For me, Mat and Elayne had more chemistry in a short period of time than she and Rand in the whole series. Maybe taking Elayne out of the loving "square" and exploring more she with other people (--Mat--) generates more development in her journey until being the queen of Andor and in the interaction with other characters
Unfortunately, Elayne and Rand's babes lead to huge plot points, due to Elayne thinking the prophecy made her invincible. Aviendha is more relevant than Daniel realizes. Her relationship with Rand is the center for the latter's views on the Aiel and his value system
I would be happier with Rand and Elayne getting together once for the purposes of specifically impregnating her than the idea of taking aviendha out of the relationship.
@@OracleTruth24 All of those plot points are mostly unnecessary, to a certain point. They are mostly for building up Elayne's character and relationship with the other characters around her. They can be removed and it wouldn't hurt the overall plot. I think Rand doesn't embrace the Aiel value system. He forces himself for the sake of Aiel but doesn't follow it at all if he is not dealing with them.
@@clbmurat To a certain extent, most plot points in the series are used almost purely for character development and relationships. By that logic, a lot of threads in the wheel could be removed and we have only a handful of things to do before Tarmon Gai'don. There are ways to remove Elayne's plotlines, but then she and Birgitte wouldn't be the same characters. What I meant by value system wasn't that Rand assumed part of the Aiel culture. I meant that his views on morality, and his views on the value of life for the Aiel who followed him, shifted gradually through his interactions.
I think Fain was still pretty important to book 4 because he brought the Whitecloaks to the two rivers. And arguably he's important in book 7 when he stabs Rand with the Shadar Logoth dagger. After that he's almost completely irrelevant. I would say maybe have him die at that point in book 7.
Something occurred to me while watching this. Yes, the series is huge and there is no way they are going to make 14 seasons for this show. Yes, there are plotlines that seem to drag and that you didn't particularly care for. What we love about this series, though, is how well the characters are developed and the world building. The reason it is so long, and the reason why we fall in love with these characters and their story, is because we spend so much time with them; be it fun, suspenseful, and action packed, or just them walking, just hanging out, or whatever. We get to see them through their ups and downs and just oks. The reason we keep going back, is because of this. This is why we cherish the Wheel of Time. The fact they are making a tv show of it is so exciting and we all can't wait for it to come out already. We want the rest of the world to love the story and its characters just as we do. We also know that it is inevitable that things are going to be changed or just completely cut. It is fun to speculate on. We are also spending this time doing so because we need to prepare ourselves for losing and changing elements of this series we love so much. I worry that the television audience won't get to have that same experience and connection to the characters (unless they read the series, of course). It just has to be done perfectly.
Every Forsaken needs a standalone episode detailing their past and rise to the Shadow - I don’t care if Bezos aka the Dark One has to fund this himself
As soon as they said "which Forsaken can we get rid of?" I said "Demandred!" and then they said "Why not make Mazrim Taim actually be Demandred?" and I love that idea. But yeah, there are too many Forsaken that barely get any screen time, and the ones that die (not by balefire) are given a new name and appearance, which is unnecessarily complicated for a TV show. I definitely think Balthamel, Aginor Demandred and Asmodean can be fused with other characters, and we don't need the first two to be resurrected. Lanfear is an awesome character, but her becoming Cyndane is just unnecessary. Maybe the whole foxes and snakes bit can be left out, though I honestly loved it. The only Forsaken transformation that made any sense and added something interesting to the character for me was Graendal becoming Hessalam.
Same. I'm not really into the idea of reading WoT, but I like listening to Daniel talk about it. I just play these videos while doing shores about the house
@@siennaluprano8573 don't force yourself.. if you really want to, just read book 1-3 and see from there. Or just watch the show and decide after if you want to continue, I think they will do a great job.
SeiShinCasios lol thanks! But don’t worry I’m not forcing myself to read these, I do really want to and they’ve been on my TBT since forever anyways (before I knew about the show). And I won’t force myself to keep reading if I don’t like them either, I just like going into an adaptation knowing what the books were like first. 😊
@@siennaluprano8573 you should try the audio book versions. I read all the way up to Knife of Dreams about 12 years ago and I wanted to finish the series but I just can't find time to sit down and reread the series. I listen to the audio books while I drive or work and I've been flying through them.
More time on Elayne and Rand tbh. They meet and talk like a few lines to each other and fall in love and pine for each other. Distance makes the heart grow fonder, but it went a bit too far. That is if they are still gonna be lovers in the show. To me, Min was always the girlfriend. She stuck around, she flirted, she took care of him.. She was there. I like Aviendha, but she, like Elayne were too absorbed with their duties and their people to fully become focused on love. Wich is fine. And also cool, but it does chill the relationship part a bit. Especially with Elayne, since they barely spent any time together at all. And only for very short periods of time. Aviendha at least got the whole Aiel Waste arc to be with him. Edit : About Tam, Nynaeve gave a good example of him. Considering how she likes to be in charge, have responsibility and take care of others. And how she certainly doesn't like to be told what to do and be given "advice". The fact that she mentioned how Tam was someone whom she could get advice from without feeling inferior speaks quite a bit about him.
100% agree. Elayne and Aviendha both “suffer” in the relationship department because they largely do their own stuff. If you want to you could give Aviendha a little fling with Rand during their time together just like Mat and that dark one maiden that gets killed.
I`m rereading at the moment and i`m finding a bit of a dislike for Min but only when she`s with Rand...the character comes off as the needy girl trying to hard to snare Rand(this is after she leaves Salidar) sitting on his lap hugging him in front of everyone,it just feels wrong..
@@kopicat2429 Its the way she does it as its described in the book...its more like a creepy stalker than someone trying to win his heart, mind Rand isn't much better in those scenes as he allows it.. I think they will either change it for the show or drop those scenes because visually on screen they wont work especially with thew actress cast as Min..
"I wear the ki'sain, Master Aldragoran. My husband wears the hadori. So do you. Will Lan Mandragoran ride to the Last Battle alone?" this line literally made me cry. I hope that powerful (in terms of story progression and main character development) but minor characters (in terms of air time) stay in the show, the way how the plot intervines with their lives is what makes the world of WoT unique and wholesome.
If there is one minor thread that I hope they keep, it's Hinderstap. They could easily cover it in a single episode but it is such an iconic sequence, it's so well written and full of character, and it even has some payoff right at the end of the final book. I will be so disappointed if they cut it, the tone goes from growing tension and then just ramps up to 11 and I think putting that in a visual medium can only make it even more exciting.
aviendha helps tie Rand to the Aiel narrative, she's integral :/ suggestion: why not do an episode with a concept artist talking about visual design in the show? RJ wrote visually; his world was a rich renaissance napolenic smorgasbord. We should be talking about those hues on a storyboard canvas.
I agree with condensing the forsaken. There are three changes I would make: 1. Get rid of Aginor. The first time around he got fried by saidin, which didn't make much sense with what we learned about channelling later. And when he came back as Dashiva he again did absolutely nothing. 2. Combine Graendal and Mesaana. Mesaana was important plotwise because of her role in the white tower but was one of the least developed forsaken personality wise, and most of the times we saw her she was disguised by the power. Graendal had a lot of character development but she didn't really do that much. 3. Combine Demandred and Taim. This should be a no brainer, since it's what Jordan originally intended anyway. Be'lal also did almost nothing, but I actually like having Moiraine one shot him since it establishes how dangerous balefire is, and shows that Moiraine's leveled up after getting beaten badly by a forsaken in book 1.
No, no, no. If anything, expand the Forsaken. Combine Graendal and Mesaana? Seriously? Graendal wouldn't be caught dead playing politics in the Tower. Graendal doing nothing is kind of the whole point of Graendal.
I can agree with 1, more conflicted on 2 and 3. I do think there would be some value in making Demandred and Sammael one character, I know it seems too big a change since those 2 are among the biggest forsaken, but they are quite similar, great battle stagiest who hates LTT and we can have Sammael's arc exactly as is but instead of killing him he escapes and we later find out he had plan B in Shara, it makes for one awesome villain and would make the shara reveal even more powerful!
@@NoorAhmed-nk2jq I'd be fine with that idea too. It was always kind of anticlimactic that Sammael had this whole elaborate escape route / fake death set up and then it turned out he actually was dead for real.
@@Siansonea When they're adapting 4 million words of text to a TV series, they need to cut a lot more than they can expand. Ultimately Graendal's not that important to the story - I'm not sure they have room for a minor villain whose whole point is doing nothing.
I so so so hope they don't mess up Nynaeve and Lan, they are so perfect in the books. But yeah, Min and Rand are good though not great, everybody else needs work. Especially Perrin and Faile, that relationship is so toxic. I want to see Tuon and Mat, I think that story has a lot of potential to be really interesting. Also, please can they drop Egwene and Gawyn. They are the worst couple ever and Gawyn is just awful for her.
I'm just hoping they don't cut the nightmare scenes from EOTW because they're one of my favourite scenes from said book. And as much as I find them cheesy, Siuan's fishing analogies are part of her character so they should stay also the Damane/Sul'dam should not be changed in any way.
Between portal stones or the ways, I’d go the ways 100 per cent. Seems to me they would be powerful in a visual medium-the drama of that darkness and risk to the characters, listening for the winds coming up behind you, races through the dark by lantern light ... that could make for some really great sequences, with the right director in charge .
‘Improve the relationships’ just means not using a single perspective for the first season. Behind there, is huge amounts of story that you don’t see reading. Rand is suppose to be clueless.
I would love to see Thakan'dar early on maybe the end of season 1 showing the shadow really start to mobilize and begin the machinations for the Last Battle. If we do go there early on though, they need to have a separate location for the red veiled Aiel. Mention them as a secret weapon of the shadow but don't show them except maybe flashes until the final season.
This is late - but here's a solution to the Padan Fain later-books problem that also heightens the stakes concerning another character: Fain stays the EXACT same in books 1-4. After he Fain fails his mission in the Two Rivers...we get the reveal of Slayer as Luc who kills Fain on orders from the Dark One (as his assassin). Now there's no missing/meandering/pointless Fain storylines. And Luc can be inserted as Perrin's main foe much earlier and with more malevolence. Thoughts?
Cutting the Forsaken down to like 6 or 7 is a really smart move. Some have storylines in the beginning and some towards the end and so they could be combined, like Moghedien and Mesaana
I think Rand's "insanity" with Lews Therin inside his head could be done much more literal. Have an actor who's Lews Therin and of course only Rand can see him and it's not till they are in the box do they ever lock eyes. Lews Therin can seize the power from Rand in a very literal and visually appealing way, essentially shoving him out of the way while Rand is trying to channel to do it himself. You have Lews Therin standing strong and proud wielding the one power while Rand is prone on the ground watching in horror/amazement. I dunno, a voice in your head is great on paper but on the screen I don't think it would play as well. I think it could add some more depth to Rand, Lews Therin as well as everyone who has to deal with the two of them.
I say end Fain/mordeth at the cleansing. Yeah it would be a big departure, but it makes sense since it’s at shadar logoth, and he doesn’t add much to later books
Yes and no. Yes to the idea of bringing in content to season 1 that is present in both New Spring, The Eye of the World, and The Great Hunt. Based off of information including casting announcements we do know New Spring content will be in season 1. I and others don't think packing 2+ books of content into 8 hours is a very good idea as it would likely mean large departures from the original story. As for the ending hook for Season 1 of WOT on Prime I currently think it will be mainly 3 events: Event 1 attack on Fal Dara escape of Fain theft of Horn and Dagger. Event 2 Min tells the party of her oracular visions, what she sees around them. I currently think Min will be introduced in Fal Dara and will be Shienaran or a Borderlander of some sort instead of Andoran and introduced at Baerlon. Event 3 Seanchan invasion of Toman Head reveal. However it's all speculation leaving the only sure way to know being WAFO (watch and find out)
What if, instead of Rand fighting Ishamael at the Eye of the World, have Ishamael get caught in the back blast of Rand destroying one of the other Forsaken. That allows the burned Ishamael to be present at Toman's Head later.
Not sure I'd skip the bowl of the winds, maybe. But I think that the Seafolk pretty much add nothing. You have both Rand and the Tower negotiating with them, but they seem to be lost after that. As a whole, they don't add much to the story. The Kin definitely have a bigger impact than the Seafolk.
I'm fine with simplifying the forsaken. I had a friend warn me to keep track of them. The first two times I read the series, I had to keep an index card with names on it to keep straight who is alive, dead, and alive again.
I memorised the 13 names and would recite them to myself to help me keep track of them. Then Jordan decided it would be fun to rename half of them just because. Good times.
For plotline reductions, I think that the Shaido arc could drop to background levels after the use of the "fool boxes", the Prophet arc could be an anonymous background story, and Bayle and Egeanin had lots of prominence for no critical story impact.
Without Aviendha the Aiel wouldn't be part of the Dragon's Peace. Without her the Aiel would have gone to war with the Seanchan, without her Elayne wouldn't have been as willing to share Rand with Min.
Feel like it should also be mentioned, the Ways are actually important to certain plot points. Think of the places the Trollocs get to because of them, there's at least 2 that are very important where they can't get to without the Ways. The only way to get around it would be to change how Traveling works, which would have so many ramifications for the rest of the series. Portal Stones are cool, but could confuse viewers as to why they even exist.
Poll: What backstories do you most want to learn? For me, I wish we had the stories of how each forsaken came into power in the lands they each chose. Rahvin as Gaebril seducing Morgase. Sammael as Brend taking over the Council of Nine after his arrival in Illian.
Rafe absolutely has to fix the pacing during the slog... The threat from Shayol Ghul / last battle almost disappears for far too long, as do the forsaken. I'd love to see the book plots truncated significantly, and devote more time to what the forsaken are up to.
I think they should have the three way love triangle but they should also have group relationship between the Aes sedia and warders because it was clear in the white tower such a thing was kinda expected/common
We already know that the Portal Stones are staying (you covered that in Fantasy News) so the discussion of whether they should keep them or not felt pretty pointless.
I think offing Fain early has far more advantages. He needs to live long enough to get to wound Rand as in Crown of Swords (I think, you know the bit), because Damer Flinn's Healing - where an Aes Sedai failed - is really important to shifting the perceived balance of power between the White and Black tower. But after that... I dunno, maybe the Forsaken decide, or are told, that Fain has to die (unpredictable 3rd party), and they set the gholam on him. Gives Fain the time to do everything he needs to do in the plot, then kills him off and introduces a new, differently dangerous enemy. Who - since Fain can't channel - will still have a surprise in store for the uninitiated viewer.
@@rinokumura7371 Make him someone new, or, i've heard some Booktubers (maybe Dusty Wheel??) say that Ishamael should be left until later in the series, because Rand's initial defeat of him is so easy. Or, you could say that people can be brought back, but that the cost to the Dark One is great in doing that/he's made weak and therefore it's rare. It would cut down on the plot hole of why dark friends aren't brought back from the dead all the time.
Daniel, I write to you now with a heavy heart. Your channel sparked an intersst in reading I never knew was lacking. You leasons on writing have helped shape my game projects world. I found your personality charming. your delivery of content, delightful. But how dare you say they should cut Aviendha! I.....I just.....I cant right now, ok!? Regards Me p.s. love yo channel my man ;) & sorry for my dyslexic ass trying to spell
Since they are keeping Fain they have to keep the Ways, The portal stones are only used what 3 times. 1st with Salen she could easily show up in The Ways to help. 2nd fucking up the travel to Falem that could be something like the ways or maybe they do use the stones that one time and decide never to again. 3rd headed to the Waist could be an accidental travel since hes going to figure out traveling in the Waist anyway.
i would hate if they change Rand-Elayne-Aviendha-Min relationship. This polilove is a important part of Aiel culture, not to mention that Elayne and Aviendha only became first sisters because of Rand.
I haven't finished the books so I don't really know yet how the relationship works, but I've heard it suggested to make the girls also more romantically involved with each other to make it less harem-y. For example by adding an explicit Elayne-Aviendha romance. Without going into much detail, do you think that could work?
@@SirStrangefolk I think that might work, but they could even just amp up the friendship relationship to the level that First-Sisters seems to represent in Aiel culture and emphasize that, and a romantic relationship could work, but I personally think the friendship and first-sister relationship dynamics make for very interesting and entertaining plot points and as long as the show is entertaining and adheres to the vibe of the books I think that's the most important thing
This comment probably isn’t gonna be seen by this point but I have to say. The Wheel of Time is balance that’s a major point like Min said in one of the later books. And I would rly like them to keep that sure make it a bit darker but don’t lean it to far either way. The bases of pretty much The Whole series is a balance between good and evil and if any one thing can be said to be the core of the series it’s balance. Saidin and Saidar. Black tower and white tower. Dark one and Creator. Seanchan and Aiel. The whole entire series is balance.
Elayne/Aviendha, specifically their relationship, are vastly more important than the Randygamy. That said, the shipping wars and discussions will already be insane with this show, and adding the Randygamy will amp it up by a lot!
I think Aviendha and Min should spend a little more time together. There's also the possibility that Elayne realizes she loves Aviendha more then Rand or only likes Rand.
Cut the entire Faile kidnapping storyline. And either expanding the Lord Luc/Isam/Slayer storyline so it makes sense, or cut it altogether. Oh, and Galad and the Whitecloaks *could* be taken out.
I am cool with that, but Gaul is my favorite side character, need to add him to other stuff as the byplay between him and the two spear chicks is amazing.
Keep Aviendha! I love her relationship with Elayne. One of my favorite things about the first book is how you get to see an explore this massive rich world from just the perspectives of the Emond's Fielders, you get to discover everything along with them, and I hope they keep that. I don't want them to be cutting away to Tar Valon for Aes Sedai plotting during the EotW plot, keep it a mystery!
I would say combine the sex torture female Forsaken into either one character or give their major effects to Moghedien and have Messana as her big secretive rival.
I personally think Aviendha plays a huge role in introducing Aiel to Rand as well as the readers. She brings that exotic untamed beauty to the series which intrigues you more. And with her being a warrior as well will bring more male viewers into the show. Sorry if I sound like a creep or a misogynist. She is also such a powerful channeler that will bring balance in the eventual fight with the Chosen.
I agree about having only one forsaken at the end of eye of the world. I wouldn’t be too upset cutting aginor and balthamel either, although I think their backstory is cool and I love the plot lines of them being given new bodies and infiltrating the rebel aes Sendai and ashaman. I think that could could be utilized as a really good twist on screen, even if it’s done with different forsaken. Also, I never felt much for Sammael and was a bit underwhelmed with his downfall in a battle between rand. Rand crossing bale fire with Morridin is important and the battle in shadar logoth would be rad to see, but maybe he could be combined with another forsaken too? I don’t want to lose those elements of the story, but it’s seems like a plausible change. Maybe I feel this way due to the battle with rhavin feing so epic and a huge character moment for rand. Sammaels battle was just not on that level. Tough decisions 🤔
I lol every time a villain calls Rand a worm. It’s so silly it makes my skin crawl. Pardon the pun, but I can live without hearing what started to feel like a term of endearment instead of an insult.
I feel like a lot of the plotlines that tended to drag in the books could be streamlined in the show. Especially Perrin chasing after Faile, Mat and company with the circus caravan, Elayne winning the throne of Andor, etc. I actually think a lot of those plotlines would work better in a show format because there's visuals, music, acting, and such that can communicate as much as a wall of text if it's done right.
I finished the series a few weeks ago and I honestly don't remember what happened in the Eye of The World and the Great Hunt. I really want to reread but I don't have time for that now. So it would be really good to be able too see a detailed summary video about the first two books in order to understand better of the videos about the TV show, if anybody feels the same way in the community.
@@ZlothZloth Min is central to the story. She is a Truthspeaker and her powers are unique and important to the plot. Not to mention that she is Rand's actual partner, the one who is there by his side through the worst of times and comes up with the strategy for him to fight at Tarmon Gai'don! There is no WoT without Min.
@@ccheyenne I was just joking - I think she's already been cast. But characters can be divided up. Min's powers could go to Lan. Elayne can be the one that sticks by Rand.
the Ways stays, hands down! They are a direct impact of the Breaking so they're needed. Shadar Logoth is necessary for Rand's second biggest achievement, and Fain drives the plot of Great Hunt! But I think the latter can be killed around the time of Winds o Winter without much being changed. Aviendha is... hmmmm. good question. Her foray into the Rhuidean rings is illuminating, if the show gets that far. Aginor and Balthamel are weak, true. so is the guy from Tear.... what's his name again? Be'lal? what I want added: I want the Seanchan ending better addressed. The leashes, the slavery, the racism. The bombshell about the Leash holders being Channelers, and the Empress herself being one. They are an evil too, no matter how bad they try to portray in the end that "Eh, maybe they're not so bad after all!"
I know this video is a week old but just from scrolling I haven't seen one of my thoughts (others like Failes kidnapping have been mentioned) but they need to either expand on or condense the Snakes and Foxes. Viewer wise having two different races that only physically appear 3 times (only twice for both) could be confusing to some...they need to be given a slightly bigger role/ Maybe more people visiting them? or be condensed into maybe just the one Fox race....and maybe just what happens be tied to what color the doors are? Like you get answers from the red door but the blue door gives you wishes....something needs to be changed about them since their so important to Mat and Moiraine, but I can't really come up with the exact thing that needs to change about them.
*glances at the cast* The actor playing Moiraine is 5'8"? The guy playing Thom is younger than me! Ugh... I feel old. Sure hope this series works. Been waiting so long for this to happen.
Started reading Wheel of Time because of this channel, currently on book 7. So far it has been really good, though i hear I am going to hit a brick wall soon... Only real problem i have is that every time i hit a chapter about Nynaeve i have to keep myself from skipping. I just do not like her at all
She grows and matures, give her a chance. I had the same problem with Mat. They all grow up, which is nice to read. Also, the Slog is awful. It will make you groan every time a Perrin chapter comes. It picks up again afterwards
Thanks for this video, could the two of you please do more together, this was fascinating, you brought up many things I had not thought of, and made me look at the series in a different light. On another note, I agree on the sense of scale, the cities need to have the feel of being big. The Witcher is just not right.
Speed up Perrin with Faile rescue (if they even include it) Speed up the girls with the circus Speed up Matt in ebou dar plus escape with circus Speed up tower split Speed up elayne becoming queen
If I had to choose a plot to kill it would be the Morgase escape arc. It goes on for books and leads to one of the worst scenes in the books with the trial. You can either have Rahvin kill her flat out or play up the horror of compulsion and the Forsaken. You see it working on lesser people but Morgase continues to resist and Rahvin keeps pressing until he breaks her mind. It would cement the evil of compulsion while explaining how it works.
The trail was bad. Just have Moghedien disguise as a Whitecloak leader and have them leave to fight for the shadow. Their dumb enough not to realize the places they "save" end up getting eaten by Trollocs afterwards.
so, I've wondered... do you all think the ways are the same as the platforms and ramps seen in Tel'aran'rhiod when the forsaken are meeting and in several characters dreams?
I don't see the menagerie getting cut. It's a tv show, they need visuals. A circus is a great opportunity for a visual feast. I think the mistake people make is in thinking that a plot in the books has to take up the same amount of relative time on the show. A lot of these things could be severely condensed and still be there. The Faile kidnapping could be one or two short scenes over the course of a few episodes. When you think about how much in-world time things actually take compared to how we perceive time passing in a visual medium it changes everything. Isn't there one book that only covers like a weeks worth of actual time? That can be half an episode. They won't show people reacting to the cleansing in a different season, that will all happen at once. You can knock out several books worth of content by actually have things happening at the same time.
Totally agree. What people often overlook is that a page worth of words describing how someone reacts to a situation can be shown in under 6 seconds. There are plenty of plot points through out the series that can be shown and still be impactful, but only take a mere fraction of screen time.
This may or may not be controversial but the one thing that I hope for in WOT on Prime is that they embrace some of the LGBT relationships that could have been but Jordan didn't embrace them because of the times. Instead of getting rid of Elayne and Aviendha, have them fall in love with each other instead. Really go into the fact that Moiraine and Siuan loved each other. Siuan Sanche is a bi-con and no one can tell me otherwise.
wouldnt Moiraine and Siuan rub wrong with lesbians? bcs they might have been together only when they were accepted and after that both of them find a man to love making it basically "just a phase".
@@bruncla2303 I think that it could be argued both ways but I don't think that just because you love a man later in life that it makes any early loves that you have less valid. Especially because when you read New Spring it kind of gives off the idea that they might have carried on after they gained the shawl. I wouldn't necessarily say that either of those women are strictly lesbians but more so bisexual or pansexual.
@@urturningviolet sure, but bcs it happens to both of them i think many people would take it the wrong way. its just something that poped into my mind in reality i have no idea if it would be problematic for real or just for some clickbaity article
@@bruncla2303 Fair point. I think as long as they never claim to be lesbians then it's okay. Lots of bisexual people never date someone of the same sex even but they're still bisexual.
perrin should have a whole redemption arc with the Children. the Aiel catch Faile, the Children (maybe Galad) find the Aiel the same time that Perrin does, they free everybody and Perrin dreams (or Faile convinces him) that he needs to go with the Children back to Amador for a mandatory recall issued by the Lord Commander for retasking.
Avienndhe is essential. She is a moral compass and teaches characters how to be strong. She is also arguably the only person who is up to the task of educating Rand about Aiel culture. Besides, she took the Car'a'carn's V-card.

I agree about ramping up the horror in WoT. When I read WoT as a teen the Ways scared the hell out of me. I'd love them to treat the Ways like they did the Mines of Moria or Cirith Ungol in the LoTR films .
Those Fades are pure horror
Id say the Ways are waaaay worse than Moria, Machin Shin is one scary motherfucking entity/thing.
Lol yeah, I found all of the books to be suspenseful with serious horror/ fantasy notes. Hence the numerous metal tribute bands that have surfaced over the years. 😆
Yeah I’d love more horror. I think it would help ramp up the story’s uniqueness
YES. Please.
I tend to agree, Sevanna in general is just kinda... meeeeeeeh. Just a filler antagonist.

My plotline to cut - Perrin rescuing Faile from the Shaido. My God there was no storyline I cared about less than that one.
Elayne fighting for the throne?
Abso-fucking-lutely!
@@miguelbranquinho7235 I didn't mind that because there was at least intrigue, better pacing, and more consistent development. Particularly because Elayne is not ta'veren.
Which time?

Are u kidding that a pivotal character development of perrin bu actually be a leader without faile holding his hand and accepting allies
No!!!!! The 'I win again Lews Therin' sequence from the Portal Stones HAS to make it in!!!
I could see fain being used as a seasonal villain, maybe first two seasons
I think Fain was still pretty important to book 4 because he brought the Whitecloaks to the two rivers. And arguably he's important in book 7 when he stabs Rand with the Shadar Logoth dagger. After that he's almost completely irrelevant. I would say maybe have him die at that point in book 7.
I agree with Fain as a seasonal villain, that is a great idé!
@Confronting Democrat Traitors Your subtlety is commendable.
@Confronting Democrat Traitors Come on at least try to hide your trolling behind something.

Best couple in Wheel of Time! At first their relationship was fine but after this line they became the best couple hands down IMO
Just finished the series today. I absolutely loved it thank you Daniel for getting me into it. Now I can actually watch your WoT videos.
Min's and Rand's relationship is my favourite relationship of the relationships but I do love the other two as well.
If there is one minor thread that I hope they keep, it's Hinderstap. They could easily cover it in a single episode but it is such an iconic sequence, it's so well written and full of character, and it even has some payoff right at the end of the final book. I will be so disappointed if they cut it, the tone goes from growing tension and then just ramps up to 11 and I think putting that in a visual medium can only make it even more exciting.

suggestion: why not do an episode with a concept artist talking about visual design in the show? RJ wrote visually; his world was a rich renaissance napolenic smorgasbord. We should be talking about those hues on a storyboard canvas.
I agree with condensing the forsaken. There are three changes I would make:

They reminded me of the avatar nightmare scenes before the solar eclipse. Bit goofy but also scary
I think Jordan introduced Travelling at the exact right time, we saw most of the continent first. I would drop 2-3 Forsaken before Fain
‘Improve the relationships’ just means not using a single perspective for the first season. Behind there, is huge amounts of story that you don’t see reading. Rand is suppose to be clueless.
Remove the entire Faile kidnapped by Shaido storyline and Bring Perrin more into the main group.
You and Matt have such an awesome back and forth. This was a really engaging long video. Great work!
I feel like if they removed the ways then the ogyr would become far less important aswell
This is late - but here's a solution to the Padan Fain later-books problem that also heightens the stakes concerning another character:
Fain stays the EXACT same in books 1-4.

That’s a great ideia!
A Josephus Miller after Ceres situation huh. I like it.
Good Idea, But i wonder; Who Could play Lews Therin?
I say end Fain/mordeth at the cleansing. Yeah it would be a big departure, but it makes sense since it’s at shadar logoth, and he doesn’t add much to later books
I definitely wanna see Padan Fain’s door-decorations on screen. That was such an awesome “holy sh....” moment.
I would love 2 books per season. Purely because I've just finished 2 and end of TGH is the best way to end a season
I want them to build the Lan/Nynaeve relationship better.
I agree. I'm in the middle of book 10 and I never "got" Lan and Nynaeve.
I hope they don't mess it up, I love their story
Yeah at the end of the eye of the world when they get together it feels like to me that it comes out of nowhere
Good times.
Man that Dune deluxe edition cover looks so damn good on a shelf.

@John You know you're already on the internet, right?
You can cut down on the Forsaken by just saying that they can't be brought back from the dead. That gets tiring.
And how would they explain moridin?
@@rinokumura7371 Make him someone new, or, i've heard some Booktubers (maybe Dusty Wheel??) say that Ishamael should be left until later in the series, because Rand's initial defeat of him is so easy. i would hate if they change Rand-Elayne-Aviendha-Min relationship.
@@SirStrangefolk No, they're sisters! That would completely change their relationship, which is awesome as is
This comment probably isn’t gonna be seen by this point but I have to say.
@@PintOfBass4l Just imagining the response of Bain and Chiad to be referred to as "the two spear chicks"...
@@chrischarlebois9072 I would say it over the telephone under an assumed name.
Combine Moghedien and Mesaana into one character, and make all of Moghedien’s apparent failures part of Mesaana’s actual PLAN.
I would say combine the sex torture female Forsaken into either one character or give their major effects to Moghedien and have Messana as her big secretive rival.
Weren't Moraine and Siuan "pillow friends" in the prequel?
Cutting Avienda?!?!! BLASPHEMY
Agreed. Cut Min instead. ;)
@@ZlothZloth no elayne/rand crush love. They meet, they think each other is hot, they make out, they go their separate ways like rand and Egwene.
Carla Hallabrin min was the worst character in the book series, didn’t serve an actual purpose
Are there spoilers in this video? I’m on book 5, is this safe to watch?
the Ways stays, hands down!
"Right now" people have been talking about Taim and Demandred for the last 20 years or whatever
I keep wondering how they're going to do Rand's conversations with Lews Therin.
Ooooo, that does sound tricky. I'm also wondering about the whole "ageless faces" thing, which I was never even able to really imagine very well.
@@ZlothZloth i think a face with botox would solve ageless faces , at least thats how i imagined reading the books
Or they can use younger women as aes sedai and just put some grays to their hair
I know this video is a week old but just from scrolling I haven't seen one of my thoughts (others like Failes kidnapping have been mentioned) but they need to either expand on or condense the Snakes and Foxes. Viewer wise having two different races that only physically appear 3 times (only twice for both) could be confusing to some...they need to be given a slightly bigger role/
Maybe more people visiting them? or be condensed into maybe just the one Fox race....and maybe just what happens be tied to what color the doors are?
I hope they visualise magic in a nice way. Different colors for the different components and what not.
Thanks for this video, could the two of you please do more together, this was fascinating, you brought up many things I had not thought of, and made me look at the series in a different light. On another note, I agree on the sense of scale, the cities need to have the feel of being big. The Witcher is just not right.
I’m on book 12 rn am I safe to watch or will things be spoiled for me?
I'm only on Book 3, there aren't any important spoilers for the later books.
There are pretty significant spoilers for even the last book.
Speed up Perrin with Faile rescue (if they even include it)
Speed up the girls with the circus
Speed up Matt in ebou dar plus escape with circus
Speed up tower split
Speed up elayne becoming queen
I feel the Sharan could be eliminated, so little about them in the story and such a large part of Tarmon Gai'don.
so, I've wondered... do you all think the ways are the same as the platforms and ramps seen in Tel'aran'rhiod when the forsaken are meeting and in several characters dreams?
Did you mention completely cutting the Sea Folk ?
I mean what did the sea folk do that cannot be replaced except being annoying? Even the bowl of winds arc could be given to the kin.
@@sabinopereira1631 Yeah, they are the knock of Aiel with to little screen time to make them interesting.
Story wise, yeah, we can do without them. But they would bring in a lot of male viewers once they go out to sea.
If you snip too many threads the pattern will unravel :(
There also has to be the correct # of Forsaken for a circle to work and all that. I always thought the # was important.
I don’t think it’s important because the Forsaken would never trust each other enough to let one person lead a circle.
@@mayeastrise But I always thought that they have done that many times in order to force conversion to the Dark One ?
Oh I guess I got that a bit mixed up ... it's 13 Myrdraal and 13 Dreadlords that are required.
I need the FLICKER FLICKER FLICKER FLICKER FLICKER scene or Ima riot
Mat's two butlers could make sense.
perrin should have a whole redemption arc with the Children. the Aiel catch Faile, the Children (maybe Galad) find the Aiel the same time that Perrin does, they free everybody and Perrin dreams (or Faile convinces him) that he needs to go with the Children back to Amador for a mandatory recall issued by the Lord Commander for retasking.
Love you together guys, please collaborate more often ❤️
Avienndhe is essential. She is a moral compass and teaches characters how to be strong. She is also arguably the only person who is up to the task of educating Rand about Aiel culture. Besides, she took the Car'a'carn's V-card.
