I hate mod motors for their sheer size and lack performance potential due to small displacement, but you can't argue with the reliability factor at all. They're well made and last a long time. Honestly it will be a shame to remove this one as it's barely a quarter of it's normal life in, but 250 hp and 3.73s just isn't enough for me. I have read many of the comments, and it is clear most people simply don't know why Ford developed this engine. Comparing it to the light duty GM and Chrysler hemi engines is downright silly. The Godzilla was designed to be used in Class 7 and Class 8 commercial trucks first and foremost. It is a very heavy duty truck engine. Many fleet truck owners are getting fed up with the cost and maintenance of modern diesels for commercial vehicles such as bucket trucks, box trucks, medium dump trucks, RVs, etc. Ford knows what the truck market wants, and you don't get much easier to maintain than a heavy duty, pushrod, gasoline engine. Ford is going to sell millions of these to fleet truck owners. The fact that they can be used in other applications is just icing on the cake for Ford.

      They're also surprisingly fuel efficient with modern fuel systems, computers, VVT, intakes, heads and cams. When they first debuted Godzilla at auto shows, Ford engineers admitted that the reason they went back to pushrods for a bigger engine option than the 6.2 V8 was that they found that the pushrod design would be more fuel efficient than a big 7L+ OHC V8.

    I definitely would not consider the Godzilla 7.3 small block, it might not be quite as big as a big block but it’s physically much larger than a small block. Maybe it would be considered a medium block? Back in the day Pontiac blocks were considered medium blocks, they were bigger than small blocks but not quite as big as a big block. I’m glad they kept multi port injection instead of direct injection for the Godzilla engine. A lot of problems with direct injection, dirty, caked up intake valves, etc.
    I wish Crusader Marine and Ford would work something out for a marine version. Being that GM/Chevy doesn’t make the 7.4 or 8.1 big blocks the only option for gas inboards is the GM/Chevy based small block which just doesn’t cut in cruiser type boats in the low to mid 30’ range. For example you used to be able to cruise a 31’ Tiara with a pair big blocks around 3200rpm, now you can only get can only get a pair of small blocks in the newer 31’ Tiara, you have to run them at 3800 plus rpm to get the same speed as you used to get with the big blocks. Those small blocks are really working to push a heavy boat like that.
    I also wonder if they could push the cubic inch displacement up on the 7.3 Godzilla by increasing the crankshaft stroke, just like GM/Chevy did with the 454 to create the 496?

    • @heathwirt8919
      @heathwirt8919 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Godzilla engine is about 1.25 inches longer and 2.5 inches wider than a 351 Windsor. Godzilla is significantly smaller than the last big Ford V8, the 385-series 460, in every aspect, length, width, and without question, weight.

    • @joepinci4395
      @joepinci4395 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Small block vs. Big block is not determined by physical size. The 4.6 DOHC is massive and it’s a “small block” and only 281ci of displacement. Deck height & bore spacing are generally the determining factors between small & big blocks.

Hell, there are plenty of people running around with 500,000+ miles on Toyota 4 cylinder gas engines.
