    Cheers Andy. This video dropped that the right time. We are all to often unkind to ourselves, and the PhD journey can feel very lonely, so it's helpful to look around and see that countless others have, are, and will, experience the same negative feelings. We are sympathetic to their struggles, but never our own. I have a quote at the top of every chapter draft to help me remember I'm not alone: “Every act of conscious learning requires the willingness to suffer an injury to one's self-esteem” - Thomas Szasz

    *This is underrated content, Andy!*
    I've tried SOOO much but my self-efficacy in my PhD is 👎🏽... not necessarily the work but just dysfunction everywhere. But now that it's somewhat affecting my self-worth, it's pretty much time to take my PhD outta the equation & forge ahead without it.

    Andy, could you teach us how to use Jenni more effectively??? I upload lots of pdf papers so that Jenni can write text related to them, but it doesn't work... And Jenni repeats the same reference lots of times. Can you help me?

    Great video as per usual, thanks Andy! My "Facebook" is stupid TikTok videos, I don't even have the app but TH-cam shorts are just as bad (I want to look away but it's too crap and addictive 🤣).

      Discipline yourself and switch off your phone if you undertake a task. For instance I do away with my phone with I am working on my peer review paper. You can also utilize concentration apps and sounds to enable you focus.

    I love your channel. SO helpful!
    Do you know of software that you can load multiple articles into that will then compare them for like topics or thoughts or themes to help create a lit review?
    I love scholarcy, but it only does one article at a time.

      @DrAndyStapleton I knew you'd know! I have to add quite a bit to my literature. Review for my dissertation, and I have a bunch of articles, but it would help if I could just quickly find connections between the multiple articles. thank you so much!

    Maybe your Facebook time helps you mentally to recharge. At least that’s what I find helpful to relax and have the energy and mental strength to deal with all the draining stuffs

      It is "not" difficult, it requires a lot of dedication and focus

      @boredscientist5756 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Heyu7her3 true, but in the end, it is 3-4-5 years of full focus. OFC it is not that easy, but it's very doable. Not like I asked you to run 100m below 10 seconds or to be a boxing world champion 😉. Funny fact is that after it, I could "easily" do it again. PhD is just a step!

    • @DSScully
      @DSScully 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @boredscientist5756 it requires privilege. Nothing to do with focusing nor dedication. That is a false belief.
      You can be as unfocused and undedicated .. as long as you are multi generational phd white and male.
      Be female, black or neurodiverse and no amount of focus and dedication is going to break down the social barriers to PhD completion.

    • @boredscientist5756
      @boredscientist5756 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@DSScully you make no sense 😂.... Why bringing race/sex into the equation? There are tons of PhDs in India or China. I myself had 3 friends from Africa doing their PhD in my team, in Europe, others were from Vietnam, China or anywhere from Europe. At least a third of my team were..... females. WTF are you even talking about.....? 😂😂😂
      I highly doubt that you made a PhD in a good environment, collaborated with scientists around the world and went to international conferences. I guess that you are a fresh graduate who knows nothing about the world. No worries, your point of view will change as you become a real scientist and start to work abroad!
      Funny fact: I currently work in a TOP10 university, most are NON-WHITE! Half are women....

    The more of these videos I watch, the more I think my Ph.D. is gonna be unfair to most people watching. So many mentions of “the lab” and “funding for research” and “experiments” makes me feel kinda bad that I don’t need either of those (because I’m studying something useless like literature).
    Kudos to you all doing hard science and STEM Ph.D. work! You’re all earning it more than me. 🫡
