What I learned in your channel: if you want to be an academic go for it, but keep a foot outside academia in case it just doesnt work, better find a stable job than to get trapped in eternal post-docs

Hi Andy! I really enjoy your videos. Although I've chosen to pursue medicine rather than a PhD, your videos are still very entertaining to me. I had a suggestion for a video that may be outside your channel's scope, but could we get a beard tutorial?

So much priceless advice, as always. Thank you!
I am contemplating starting my PhD in September (right after getting my MSc in Computational Physics). Your tips will definitely help me to feel more confident and accomplished.
As for skill development, this is exactly why I decided to finally polish my Machine Learning skills, both to help me to be a better researcher in my field and to have a good backup plan if academia turns out not to be my thing.
    Keep educating us, Andy! 👍

My sister was brilliant. She passed away from cancer a year ago. When she was alive, she told me that she didn't get a Ph.D. because of the politics in physics. She didn't want to deal with all the egos in science. She told me people are fucked up, and it's not always worth it.

When doing research especially in STEM fields (PhD students, Postdocs, Assistant professor, etc...), your ultimate objectives are a) To win a Nobel prize and/or b) Translate your research findings into a new commercial product or service, then commercialize it by founding a startup company, thus creating new jobs and new economics activities.

Double-entry accounting is 700 years old.
Funny how economists and scientists don't think that it should have been mandatory in high school.
But scientists and engineers should be able to figure out planned obsolescence. Probably not economists though. I asked a PhD economist to explain how an automobile engine worked. He couldn't even start. But he drove an SUV that was Whiter than he was.
