  • Cab view of the Umeda Freight Line, taken on 2 August 2010, when Umeda Freight Station was still in operation and not yet underground.
The Umeda Freight Line is the common name of a railway line of West Japan Railway Company (JR West) that runs from Suita Freight Terminal Station in Suita City, Osaka Prefecture, via the former Umeda Freight Station to Nishi-Kujo Station.
This freight line was established to connect the Tokaido Main Line with Ajikawaguchi Station on the Sakurajima Line, the hub of railway freight in Osaka, and Umeda Station (commonly known as 'Umeda Freight Station', later Umeda Signalling Station), which was discontinued at the end of March 2013, and is operated by many goods trains. It also serves as a connecting line between the Tokaido Main Line (JR Kyoto Line) Shin-Osaka direction and the Osaka Loop Line Fukushima/Tennoji direction, and passenger trains also operate between Kyoto and Shin-Osaka and Kansai International Airport and the Nanki region. In line with the redevelopment of the Osaka Station North District, the route has been routed via the Osaka Station (Umekita Area) underground platforms from 13 February 2023 (however, the underground platforms started operating on 18 March of the same year).

Now, the new underground line has such a steep gradient on both sides that JR West may have to start stationing EF210 electric locomotives in "banking" service to move freight trians through it.

Why isn't any snow there? I love Japanese winter time 😍! It's like the Christmas country of snow ❄😁

A half of Japanese islands have little snow even in winter. Especially in central Osaka you can see its snow covered one only a few days a century. Visiting Tokyo is also unrecommneded. Tokyo gets white Chrismas less than once a millenium. It is nice for you to visit "Sea of Japan side" regions as Sapporo, Aomori, Akita in winter time.
