Is The Shape of Water a Prequel to Hellboy!?

- Hellboy (2004) was not nearly as hype as I was hoping. Ron Perlman crushed it as usual and the stylized look of Guillermo del Toro is beautiful as expected. Abe Sapien might also be hints towards a cinematic universe for del Toro. This is part 21 of 87 in my series where I am watching EVERY superhero movie for the first time. I am starting in 1978 and watching each superhero franchise in order. If you have any recommendations for this challenge, let me know in the comments!

I really liked it personally also to answer your question about popular superhero’s aren’t marvel or dc there is many but probably the most noticeable are Spawn and invincible right now.
You talked about not Marvel or DC, you should really watch the TMNT movies

From your list, it looks like the only ones that aren't Marvel or DC are Hellboy (Dark Horse Comics), the Unbreakable Trilogy (no source material), The Crow (Caliber Comics), Hancock (No source), and the Green Hornet (which looks like it originally came from a Radio show in the 1930s).

I remember watching a movie about three times but I don't remember anything about the movie granted it was all when I was around 10 but that's usually a bad sign for me since I still remember revenge of the nerds and I haven't watched that either since I was 10 I got to watch it again

After you're done with this you should check out the animated series Invincible! Would highly highly recommend.

The boys, spawn, teenage mutant ninja tirtles (tmnt), invicible, kick-ass, transformers, men in black (mib), hancock, ben 10 and others are not marvel or dc

To answer your question on other superheroes comic companies yes popular superheroes from different companies have achieved success most eventually got bought by marvel or DC but some do remain consistent like
image comics with there characters spawn, and Invincible and savage dragon
Valiant comics with xo-manowar, bloodshot, ninjak or quantum and woody
Malibu comics(bought by marvel years back and haven't made a book in ages but I just like them) with prime, ultra force, hardcase, nightman and mantra
Wildstorm comics( image comics imprint bought by dc years ago) with wildcats, team 7, the authority, midnighter and Apollo
There are loads more that's just off the top of my head
Both Bloodshot and spawn both got movies I didn't see either but from I hear they don't do justice to the source material and don't hold up well but Invincible got an animated series that while changing a lot from the book manages to also do a lot that seems ripped page to page and is fantastic and I honestly couldn't recommend it enough as far as an example of superhero media that isn't comics this is the best one I can point you too honestly and I've been reading comic books since I was 5

So, I haven't seen the shape of water but I'm watching it as soon as I'm done with this. It sounds like it's not a hellboy movie the way Venom isn't a spiderman movie or Halle Barry's CatWoman wasn't a batman movie. Also you mentioned other non binary comic book heroes so I thought I'd bring up Blade of the immortal in case some other nerd hasn't already brought it up Dark Horse is not DC the same way Spawn and Image aren't DC😁😆😅🤣
