    Some powerful spiritual connection happens when a roof goes on to a structure.
    Having "a roof over our heads" means so much more than we give it credit for.

    I have watched you building this log homestead with admiration . so rare to see such skill , you are simply a master builder. I am watching you series again, not only wood skill but every project you turn your hand to. How you move such heavy wood is pure skill. Thanks from a senior lady in Australia . great to watch a master at work.

    I saw your coffee cup “Dream Big and Dare to Fail”. For those who achieve greater things, they are the ones who embrace failure as they seek success. Those who don’t fail often aren’t trying to learn more. You can see you detail in what you consider success showed in how you changed your approach in finishing off the corners. From using the sander on the tops to using the chain saw. If you are your biggest critic you will be your biggest teacher.

      I’m a believer in creating a environment that people feel comfortable to fail at something they tried. Then teaching them how to learn from what took place and how to improve and try again. Over time it become a natural instinct that grows you ability to be your biggest critic. A road scholar beats any teachings a book’s theory gives you. You show your life’s experience in your detailed workmanship. Be safe

    Hooray. It's under roof.
    When you laid the first 2X4 on the sawhorses I knew what you were getting ready to do.
    I predrill my holes also. It makes a wonderful looking roof to have all those screws inline.
    You probably did also, bit I start at the opposite end of the roof from the prevailing wind so the wind will blow over the joints instead of into them.
    I helped on a roof once where then would not predrill the roofing. When I suggested it I was told "What difference does it make?" Ha!
    Well at the end of the day I told them "You all don't tell anybody I had anything to do with that mess."
    Great work and attention to detail again.

    • @ThisIsMyAlaska
      @ThisIsMyAlaska  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Morning Clint. Good to hear from you my friend. Yes, regarding pre-drilling, by sizing your holes a little larger than the screw shank you will reduce "oil-canning" of the roof metal due to expansion in the heat. It gives it some room to move around. Yes, it is lapped against the prevailing wind, but I also have a full layer of waterproof underlayment down there so it will turn any water (mostly blowing snow) that may get underneath. I alway enjoy your comments and insights. Love the discussion. Have a wonderful weekend my friend.

    Good Morning Gale - About 38:15 and that last screw went into the roof steel - must have been a great feeling to have the roof finished. It looks awesome, especially with the nearby trees to compliment the color. Your attention to detail on the log ends was great also. The under curve on the top log ends was a very nice touch. Last week, you said you hoped to accomplish a lot on the long week end and you most certainly did. Thank you for continuing to share your build with us. Give Miss Stella a pat on the head from us down here in the lower 48. Regards, Randy in Arizona

      Good morning Randy. It is good to hear from you. Yes, it is a good feeling to get it protected from the rains. Because I started early in the spring I really only had a few days of rain to contend with. This next couple of weeks I am going to have to get the utilities started. I will see how that goes. Probably not very interesting video work, but it is part of the project so you will probably see some of that too. Have a wonderful weeked my friend.

  • @LifeJUSTLife
    @LifeJUSTLife 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Good evening and welcome back. Here in Italy when the house is covered with the roof, we celebrate. So we made a cin cin with an excellent Prosecco di Valdobbiadene in your honor. Having said that, it seems to us that something is still missing to protect the tips of the beautifully carved beams. True? In northern Italy in the mountainous area, the houses all have beautiful exposed beams decorated in wonderful ways, like yours. It is very nice to see the progress, the boundless and intimate scenarios that you propose to us, and Stella that we always see with joy. In Italy the news of an earthquake has arrived right in your part, about 70 km from Sutton. Is everything okay for you? I talk too much! so I just have to wish you a good weekend of peace of mind and let's wait for the next video. Greetings from Italy.
    I add that the color chosen for the cover is really beautiful, it blends with the surrounding landscape and the birds that pass over it will be grateful. :))

    • @ThisIsMyAlaska
      @ThisIsMyAlaska  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Good morning my dear friend. I love reading your comments. A cin cin is a toast correct? That sounds wonderful and I appreciate the gesture. Yes, something is still missing but the rafter tails will be weather-protected before too much longer. I did not hear about the earthquake but that is not too unusual. My wife grew up in Sutton by the way. Have a wonderful weekend my friend.

      @@ThisIsMyAlaska I have to apologize. My English is very poor.

    Olá querido amigo Gale, você realmente sabe como nos agradar! Basta apenas fechar os olhos e estaremos em direção a serraria Dry Creek admirando essa natureza tão verdejante sentindo o vento no rosto e respirando todo esse ar puro! Quase levei as mãos para tocar essas belas vacas tamanha sensação de proximidade, me senti em uma fazenda! Ver Stella livre, amada e feliz é exemplar 🐕! É nítida a dedicação e o capricho que você está colocando nessa cabana, ela merece ser um cantinho especial para você! Até a escolha da cor do telhado combinou com a madeira e todos os detalhes do projeto ! Creio que muitas pessoas adorariam conhecer de perto essas cabanas, o modo como é construída, as muitas histórias que esse lugar tem pra contar além da beleza selvagem, rústica e natural ainda preservada do Alasca. Amigo você seria um ótimo anfitrião! Antes que esqueça, terminei o livro recomendado! Obrigada!Excelente biografia e lição de amor a vida, aos animais, a liberdade e o respeito pelo lugar onde se vive! Curiosa para ver como você fará o interior e tudo mais....Fique em paz com sua amada família! 💑🐕

      Good evening Sandra. I always enjoy hearing from you and look forward to reading your comments. I thought you would enjoy the trip to Dry Creek. It is about 150 miles away from the cabin but it is worth the trip. Dry Creek is a community of perhaps 25 to 35 families that share resources and take care of each other. They have been there since about 1970 and are thriving. They are hard workers and make excellent lumber. I am glad you enjoyed the book. It is a wonderful story and some great Alaskan history. Let me know if you would be interested in another recommendation. I have quite a few that I love. One of these days, my wife and I may be in a position to host guests. We talk do talk about it. It would certainly be very interesting and enjoyable. Talk to you soon Sandra. Have a wonderful week my friend.

    I can already hear the patter patter of rain at night, sending me into a dreamless restful sleep. Does it to me every time! I am now wondering about the door. I can imagine you have a unique design in mind for that. Cannot wait to see it.
    On a different note about the messaging on your coffee cup. Could not agree more. The biggest challenge in my life was a PhD from a major Canadian university. Could I do it? For a while I put it off for fear of failure until the thought came to me, "you will never know if you could do it unless you tried" and then, "so what if you fail, it will not be the end of the world." So I ventured out, overcame my fear, and gained an experience and success I never thought would come to me. 21 years later I am still living the life of daring to fail.
