Coke in the toilet is actually quite effective. U don't use it for smells though. U use it for stains because your shite roomies don't know how to use the brush. Imagine you get a call from your inlaws that they're coming over in like 30, and you have nothing but a fridge full of soda. Coke has a PH of like 2, so it's quite acidic. The ONE hack you've showcased that actually makes sense for people in a pinch ;-)

Growing up my mom would use vinegar to clean windows and mirrors , it added a nice shine and did not streak. While it smelled sour for a bit the smell would leave within the hour.
We would never have Windex on hand but we always had vinegar on hand. Cheeper and had more uses and avoided risk to child or animal if they got into chemical cabinets.
Maybe similar situation?
If you use soda to clean anything you'll just have to clean it again with something else because the sugar and syrups in it would leave it sticky.

About the first diy... The coke isn't supposed to help with the smell, coca cola is acidic so it can actually remove bacteria if you don't have any actual cleaning supplies on hand. Sooo... Not as stupid as it might seem at first.
Annika hi, there are a lot of different types of bacteria, and a lot of them can survive in acid...some even produce a lot of acid as Defence mechanism... anyway, the acid in the Coke might get rid of the salt stains by reacting with it, but the sugar in it will make sure that there are more and more bacteria, thriving because of the free food as bacteria consume sugar for energy
It's still stupid cuz you just wasted a whole coca cola bottle, and for what cleaning your toilet? Just use stuff that's made to clean toilets.

The coke thing is that it's acid, so it helps to clean and dissolve the dirt, so people actually use it to clean the toilet, but the cleaning products are specifically made to clean, so they are pretty much better
