What a joy working on older vehicles like that. So easy and straightforward.
I have missed it!
She sounds much happier! Give them old chevys love and they will return the favor by running forever
Great video, I usually fill the new filter with oil if I can.some cars sidemount the filter and you can't do that, and old man said the engine would have oil flow at the first start. IDK but he was a smart old guy.... good job👍👍👍👍👍
GOOD WORK RANDY NICE THAT YOUR BROTHER IS HELPING YOU NOW I USE TO DO A LOT OF THAT MY SELF BUT I DON'T HAVE A CAR NOW AND NOT ABLE TO DO THOSE THINGS LIKE I USE TO I STILL ENJOY WATCHING THE VIDEOS THANKS
Happy to have you here watching. Thank you.
She's running beautifully Randy👍
Thanks man.
If you are having doubts about the fuel filter, put a simple in line fuel pressure gauge on there and monitor it on the pressure .
Agreed. Ordered one a few days ago for it.
Man randy I never knew you know how to work on cars! Nice DIY! Keep up with the great work
Thanks man!
Another great video. Really enjoy seeing you and your brother working together on the repairs. Looking forward to seeing more videos. Thank you.
Thank you Marc.We both appreciate that.
One tip is to put rubber gloves on to remove filter, gives extra grip. Also the fuel line is loose onto the carb, letting air into the system and the fuel drains down filling the filter with air.
You are correct. We tightened it down. Thanks.
There is a tip I learn by changing oil over 100 times one multiple vehicles. do not remove the oil cap.. When you remove oil cap and drain in your oil it will literally start to gushing out with a full force... that way you have more chance for spills and nasty accidents. You can remove oil cap when its almost finished draining
Generally, Running a PCV does more than just relieve pressure in the crankcase. They also tend to reduce contaminants in the crank case by sucking them out under a vacuum. which reduces build up inside the valve covers and reduces sludge
Good instructional video. I see you didn't make a mistake some others (me) have done in the past.....when tightening the thermostat housing back down, always a good idea to torque each bolt a bit at a time, instead of fully tightening one then the other. Did that on a 1980 Aspen, cracked the housing. Gotta show a little love at a time for each bolt.
Thanks. Yes sir gotta work with both of them.
When you are cleaning the thermostat housing with a wire brush, you spray the surface with something, what is that spray Uber man?
Pretty awesome that you added some bloopers this time keep up the good work
Thanks Zeth.
Great video once again. .. gotta love them ole 350 engines run forever with just a little maintenance. Like the c 10 pickup can't wait for the final product.
Thank you Juan.
Please put together a bloopers and outtakes video!!
I'll start leaving bloopers in the video lol.
Looks good already!
Thanks!
OH NO !!! Not another "Fram" user. Lol, after tearing down many engines using Fram filters I discontinued ever using them again. Purolator is the way to go. But we all have our preferences. When you pulled the old fuel filter off and lifted the fuel line up the rubber line was real loose where it goes on the carb. You didn't show that you tightened the fuel hose to carb clamp. If you didn't you might want to check it. You also have to realize that Edelbrock carb may be drawing a lot more fuel in comparison to the factory carb which could contribute to a dry filter. We always upgraded to high flow fuel pumps when putting on higher cfm carbs. It's running good though so your OK. Isn't it great working on a motor you can actually see without all the lines and wires everywhere.
I'll go check that out now. Thank you.
I also use Purolator on every one of my engines. They're the best.
he used the upper end fram filter- they are decent. but he is Correct Randy, the new tests have shown that Standard fram filters suck nowadays. Napa and Wix filters are better
Amen to that. But being an old man, that’s all I ever worked on lol 😂.
I do like watching your videos from back to the uber days, but this is more interesting. I would of used a 15w 50 engine oil in that old engine, some would also use 15w 60 in hot areas especially if there is a lot of traffic with stop & go conditions. No need for oil thickener. Cheers
Great video Very detailed, good advice!
Thanks :)
Hey uberman I’m really looking foreword to seeing you fix this truck up! It’s a sweet looking truck. I own a 59 Chevy bel air that my father gave me years ago and I really enjoy the feeling of driving a classic car.
New cars are great but: You don't get that same experience from a new car. These old beasts are firmly planted, heavy, and they can be just as fast as new cars.
Keep up the good work man love the videos
More to come. Lots more lol. Thanks!
Randy, put crome back with doble back tape
great job. It's good to know so much about car engines! Our education system should make everyone take courses in auto mechanical knowledge.
Thank you Michael. I agree!
I always liked Sea Foam for additives... but that's personal preference....
I actually used Seafoam in the tank.
Quick Tip: Use a punch and hammer to punch a hole in the bottom of the filter to let it drain and keep from spilling all over the place.
bet that oil on the exhaust smells mint!
Love the smell!
I put a brand new fuel pump on an older model Ford one time and then it's set for a couple months and then when I went to start it back up and run it on a daily basis my fuel filter did the same thing so I just ended up changing the fuel pump again and my issue went away. I would try that to see if that helps your fuel filter issue.
Thank you.
Looking good.
Thank you.
When changing the thermostat and or coolant, I like to disconnect the heater hoses and flush the heater core with the garden hose. Best time to clear some of the goop from the heater core....
Agreed. For me, this heater core is brand new and it recently had the coolant replaced.
the smoke after sitting is Usually because the valve stem seals are old and have hardened and shrunk causing oil to leak down around valves stems after you have run engine and heads are full of oil. Replacing seals with New "Viton" seals usually fixes this!Typical for that old of an engine......
I was always told to put oil in the oil filter so it doesn't do a dry start
Correct. I just never have. I've never had an issue.
all GM350 blow ble on start up next time use STP oil tretment my dad has been useing it for over 30 years and i have been useing it for over 16 years now
Great info! Thank you.
Awesome stuff 💪🏾
Another great job and video. Keep them coming 😃
Thanks brother!
At 14:13 after you took the old fuel filter off, your brother rotated the fuel line up to stop it dripping and the line just swiveled right up there. Is it hooked onto a swivel thing on the carb or is the clamp loose? If it's a loose clamp you could either be dripping gas or maybe sucking air.
It was loose, yes. We took care of it. Thank you.
Video quality looked slightly different your other vids.
LOL You noticed! I went with a retro filter for this one video.
Coming together nicely....Any word from the body man yet?
He is not returning my calls. :(
ive had a lot of them leak without rtv thin layer on both sides of gaskets
Do you think that new fuel filter would be enough for the truck?
Yes. It's made for this carb.
Did you tighten the fuel line to carburetor connection? it looked like it was loose to me. and that will cause it to suck air into the bowl, cause idle issues and the mysterious empty fuel filter issue as well. js
I'll go check that now. Thank you.
What about 20w 50?
New distributor, upgrading to electronic ignition or staying with points?
In '77 they were using HEI distributors. Just replacing it with OE.
Uber Man ah, I thought HEI started in the 80s. Cool
This looks to be factory HEI. :) I was happy too lol.
good job man!!!
Thank you.
Hyltons Hyper lube Been around since forever. You'll find a lite coating of Vaseline will hold the gasket in place if needed
Good advice man. Thank you.
How are your tanks doing my man?
Sold all of them but one. Last one is my 55g that has all my baby yellow tail acei. They are all grown up and doing very well.
Good to hear. I juts orders about 60 pounds of that eco compleat black and white sand . I think it looks great
Hey uberman,I know it's your truck and your money and I respect that. but as a friendly heads up I highly recommend you don't use Fram filters.theres a few videos on TH-cam of people cutting them open and it proves what I am trying to warn you about.its just easier to say hey go watch it rather than explain it.im not trying to be a jerk about it but I would hate to see such a clean example of a truck being hurt by a horrible filter. Have a good one sir.
I'll have to check that out. Thank you.
What is pcv good for?
I have a 78 Chevy c20. And the oil filter barely has room to get it off. Will a regular oil filter take off thingy do the trick
I have 76 c20 camper.. cranks but doesn’t start .. do you recommend checking fuel supply ?
fuel line clamp looked loose right at carb!!!!!!....PLEASE check it!
Thank you. It was VERY loose. Took care of it and 2 other clamps.
vise grips to hold things when using dangerous tools like power brushes, hammers, and sharp objects. :-)
Possibly the fuel pickup in the gas tank was partially clogged and it finally cleared itself
I did hit it with Seafoam.
Back when car maintenance was as easy as 1...2....3
I wish mine had a 350 engine, some one put a 450 in her and I'm doing the identity check trying to find the vin number under the cab then it will be working with a engineer for the rest and a fair amount of money
Just picked up a 79 the other week love it to death but i was wondering if you explain the whole Pcv thing. Is it really that important it seems like it’s just hurting the engine more than helping. Also is it important for smog?
Or wear a cloth glove to protect your hands from the metal brush
Good idea. I just never wear gloves.
Uber
a lot of advice you didn't ask for here 😆 old oil didn't look too bad love old trucks FYI I hate fram personal preference
LOL I know it man. Bombarded with advice.
What about the fuel filter that it's by the tank on the passenger side to be more specific in the 1977 GMC sierra.? Anyone?
How was that fuel filter?
How many gallons of coolant did it take?
The start of a Bad fuel pump and lack of fuel pressure probably some bleed down to
First comment for the Uber man!!!!
Thank you Daniel!
Comment
looks like your choke pull off rod isn't connected
Ahhh!! I missed that!! Thank you.
Just a word of advice, please keep in mind of what type of concrete you have underneath you when jacking a car up and placing stands underneath..my worst fear!
I didn't jack it up though.
اللهم صل وسلم وبارك على عبدك ورسولك محمدﷺ
You used Fram... 😑
That's why people wear gloves lol.
I'm a man lol.
Gloves are for the weak
blood brothers
Randy, plz start using gloves.... U don't need to get ill..
I have never used gloves lol.
Randy, use gloves
Eww fram
