An Oak and Plywood Bed Frame (With an Ecosa Mattress)

I'm in a new workshop making a bed frame for my new house (and new mattress).
I thought I would make the most of the equipment in this workshop and machine some 50mm thick oak piece to use on all the visible parts of the bed. the cabinets, drawers and slates are made from birch plywood.

Man I love your work, but you made me sweat throughout the video. The tablesaw blade sticking out so high above the wood your cutting and the hoodie you had on at one point. :/ Please be careful. Would hate to see those skilled hands being pulled into those blades.

Thanks! They are standard push to open ball bearing slides. I got mine from a local supplier but Rockler, Hafele, Blum, all have the same ones

What a gorgeous use of oak and what a great finish you gave it, but it’s a shame you didn’t consider making a really long pull out drawer for the middle, rather than leaving that dead space?! It certainly looks like you have the real estate for it in that room? Love it 😍
Adding a middle drawer would mean a lot of extra work to support the slides and not as clean a look. I would have just made the existing drawers longer so they're using all the space underneath.

Thanks! My plans are always incomplete and in a mess :P. Once I have the rough design and dimensions sorted I kinda work it out as I go along.

Very classy bed Tim, and it must be nice to have access to the larger tools when you need it too. Are you planning to get back to YT a bit more now that you have moved house and whatnot? (making more furniture and stuff for the new house?)
Thanks Rob! Always good to see your comments. Yep! I've got a list of things I need to make and hopefully I can make a video for each one. Probably won't get round to working on the new workshop anytime soon so will probably be building them in the big workshop.

I don't sorry. It might be easy to adapt the dimensions to suit a king. I haven't worked it out yet.

Push to open drawers are really cool. But, no gloves and no eye protections are not good during wood work.

The clarity in these plans is truly impressive, and I can see the effort that went into creating them. I was wondering if it's possible to receive the SKP model to make adjustments for a king-size bed. Thank you!
Curious, 3 years later would you change anything about the design?
I have made some changes to it. Mainly screwing the slats to another strip of plywood so that they are connected. I did it in 2 halves so it is easy to remove them for easy access under the mattress for extra storage. Another thing I would change is to add some holes or leave some gaps to allow for some ventilation under the mattress. Other than that I am still very happy with the overall look and functionality of the design!

Haha I'm in New Zealand. But it definitely took me a while to get used to reaching over to cut the material. After a while I felt confident and safe to use it.

I still need to make plans for the headboard. It is possible to keep the base part with the cabinets the same and just make the platform on top bigger to fit a king.
