Thanks for the great tutorial!! Just tried my first coin and it came out pretty good! I used a small ultrasonic cleaner for the initial cleaning and it worked better than I had expected.
Just got my F1 ultra and getting ready to explore. Thank you for the video. I appreciate your details. It really helps understand the settings and what they mean.
I've been using ours to engrave wrenches. Takes a few passes but I've been making some very interesting designs on my tools and they've all got my name on each. Love this thing
I've had my F1 Ultra for a few weeks now, i've done a lotta testing on materials so far & I'm keen to try out the embossment function on coins or slate but the time it takes plus the mess especially from slate dust is a bit off putting but i will try it eventually.... cheers for the vid 👍
Thank you for the time and effort you put in to this and all your videos. I was just asking on Facebook where a trustworthy place to purchase challenge coins is, so I greatly appreciate your links!
Ive been watching a lot of these coin engraving videos recently. This is one of the best so far! I have noticed a lot of other people seem to struggle with getting the engraving to be well centered on the coin blanks, but your looks spot on. Any tips there that might help?
Oh geez, that hurt just watching it! The car, not the coin 🤦🏻♀ As former military, I recommend Brasso. It even comes in wadding so you can focus on the highlights. I watched one channel that did the cleaning at 20/4000 3 passes. I didn’t see much improvement. He didn’t change the freq tho, so I will try that. I just watched an older vid on a 30w and he raised the head 3mm each cleaning pass, recommended 4 steps. His looked pretty good so I will be trying that as well. Thanks for the great videos!
Are there any engravers you’d recommend that don’t take 3h to create such a detailed product? something that could be used on an industrial scale. Thanks
Coin needs a cleaning pass. You create a circle the same size as the coin, set the laser to engrave, and the settings to 20% power, speed at 4000 and let rip. Cleans the black right off. May take two or three passes but will save you the headache of cleaning it by hand.
Nice job as usual. I was looking for a link to your air assist. Can you tell me what where I can get one? Happy to use your affiliate link if it applies. Thanks brother. Shawn
I absolutely love what you are doing. You’re my go to designer on XTool things like this. Thanks so much for the work you put into this sorry about your face. What I mean is, I’m sorry you hit your face not that I’m sorry but you have that face. LOL.
Instead of air assist to keep the piece clean, could you set up a clean pass every 20-30 layers to accomplish similar results? Not even sure if lightburn or other tools have that as an option.
Great video. I can't afford an IR laser but our local library's maker's space has the FI free to use. A club I belong to is celebrating their 60th anniversary this year and I was thinking of making a brass coin using the F1. I don't need a 3D image but was thinking just a simple logo and anniversary comment would be a nice giveaway. Do you have any videos where you just made a simple engraving on metal?
Thats a good idea. I dont have the original F1 so I dont have any videos using one. There are plenty out there on YT though its very standard procedure. The original F1 cant do any kind of depth on metal but you can get a decent mark on the surface.
Thanks very much for sharing the info and the file. When I tried to open the file, I got the "This File Can't Be Opened." error. Any ideas? I've got ver. 1.7.8
Can't you make some type of a "mold" out of plywood or acrylic or something, so that the coin is always in the same spot and you don't need to eyeball the position of the design?
Brass sometimes contains lead. Personally I wouldn't be comfortable vaporizing lead. I really should calculate how much lead actually gets vaporized, but I'm too lazy.
I don't yet have a machine but have been watching lots of vids to learn. One guy used a talcum powder pad to dull the surface and stated this worked well.
Iusaually don't post about techniques but coming from the old days of jewlers usins cyanide for plating. I'd use beacers for your chemicals not coffee cups. It's too a\easy to screw up and use the coffee cup for coffee

Thanks! Good luck with the new machine my friend.

Put down a sheet of waste material. Draw your coin outline on it with the laser set very low. Then place your coins in the right spot every time.

Thanks! Yeah the dust is an issue. The brass leftovers are certainly no picnic either haha.
Wow. That is absolutely staggering.
you should see what a real fiber laser can do, especially a mopa

No problem! There are plenty more places those are just a few I use so far.

Ill look into Brasso!
Yeah I normally do cleaning passes at 100+ freq but cant do that on this laser.
Great video! Make sure you have your lead test swabs handy when ordering metals from Amazon!
Super cool spicy rooster! You need to take revenge on that door!
When face meets door deserves a like. ;)

Yes I mentioned it in the video. Still doesnt clean as nice as the tumbler does. Could get close if it allowed higher freqs.
Very interesting. Can you acheve the same with the xTool F1 or must it be xTool F1 xTool F1ultra? And could it be done with xTool S1?

Thanks for the info on the coins and laser. Would it be able to do the same on a solid silver round or bar?
Theoretically yes but I havent seen anything like this done on silver with the F1 Ultra yet.

Can you make a video doing a silver coin?
Curious if an ultrasonic cleaner like a cheap one from Harbor Freight would be helpful in cleaning it up.
Nice tut. Tq

I think its only going to work with a 2.0+ version of XCS. Im currently on 2.0.117-beta.
@@justinlaser Thanks Justin. I appreciate your content a lot.
May do such work on a 3d shape like a copper pot ?
Can you do that same quality detail with that F1 on a .999 silver coin? Thanks

Why is the circle surrounding the image wavy? Are these laser not acurate enough to make it perfect ?
I collect pure silver coins. What about silver bars. Can you do an image on a rectangle chape piece please
Wondering how many hours of runtime these fiber lasers are generally good for.
Im sure it will be a couple years before we find out. Running at 100% isnt as detrimental to a fiber like it is a co2 laser.
i keep trying to download the file to try on my brand new F1Ultra and the download keeps failing!!
Can you do that with the P2?
Somewhat but not on metal. You can use depth maps with the Grayscale image mode. Will really only work on thick wood.
Brass sometimes contains lead. Personally I wouldn't be comfortable vaporizing lead. I really should calculate how much lead actually gets vaporized, but I'm too lazy.
Steel wool no mater how fine. It will always leave very fine micro scratches on coinsi like the details in the engravings
Flitz is your friend.

Does anybody know if it’s ok to engrave a mirrored finish coin with a fiber as opposed to a brushed finish?
I don't yet have a machine but have been watching lots of vids to learn. One guy used a talcum powder pad to dull the surface and stated this worked well.
Can I buy the coin?
nice 🐔
Hello. I’m wondering if a 5W diode laser engraver would produce this project?
If you smack yourself on a car door..... the car is definately too high! :D
can you use 999 silver?
Can you engrave gold coins

HAHA very true. Ive done that before just not with any chemicals thankfully. Most of that stuff gets promptly removed after filming.
Need to do a clean pass every 10 passes
They dont allow it in XCS yet. Its all or nothing for the moment.
1 like for the door in face smash (and the video)
lol much appreciated!
