  • From version 4.2 of the Carp Pilot Pro the ability to support boats with no built in autopilot is introduced. You will have to your your remote transmitter to drive the boat and to open bait trays. But you will get great support for managing fishing spots, visual guiding while driving, the great echo sounder integration with live mapping support.
    Building in a pixhawk with GPS and Compass is no easy task. I regularly receive questions from anglers having a hard time installing it, configuring all of the options and tuning the auto pilot behaviour. It is a little difficult, that's the honest truth. And I have always had great respect for any angler who is up for the challenge.
    As this video will show, you can have a great experience with the Carp Pilot Pro also if you take an easier path. If you already have a NMEA capable echo sounder built into your boat you do not have to prepare anything.
    Let's say you have put in a Deeper (Chirp+, Chirp+ 2.0 or Pro+ 2.0) and have added an Antenna (or Booster) and possibly also a router on shore. Then you can use the Carp Pilot Pro straight away by selecting the new GPS connection option.
    If you, like many, have built in a Raymarine Dragonfly Pro or the old Wi-fish, these echo sounders do not offer NMEA. But it is actually very easy to build your own wifi GPS. I will make a separate video on how you do it. With just a couple of parts (a GPS and an ESP 8266) and a few wires to solder, the solution is put together. And the software needed for the ESP is not only easy to install, it is also easy to use. All you need to do is to tell it to connect to your Raymarine wifi. And that is all there is to it. Building such a wifi GPS is something most people can handle. And it does not take much time either.
    You will miss few of the really cool auto pilot features. But the experience will no matter be a huge lift from just driving the boat with your remote transmitter with no visual support at all.
    Enjoy!

    As per October 1st the 4.2 version is in the final test stage. Release will happen from 1 day to maximum a week (some fine tuning still in progress). There are a few other changes here as well, will offer more info when released...

      Is one of the other changes MavLink 2 support? :) great work as always!!!

      @@MKrEvolution No, that's a huge change with very limited benefit. Work on that particular feature is on the agenda for the winter (along with other improvements where the priority is not yet set). The upcoming changes for this upgrade will improve the way points are handled. And have support when rowing out baits using a dinghy. A range of stability improvements. And some other quite OK fixes as well. Will make a video to summarize it all. All issues observed during my two days fishing trip this week is already fixed. Still waiting on the feedback from beta testing anglers this weekend. Their feedback will decide if the app update is ready for launch.

      @@TheCarpPilot thanks just wanted to check 😊 I am mostly asking for this is because for me is a make-or-break deal since when using mavlink1 over crossfire wifi AP the transfer is slow, that I cannot even upload a mission. Same thing happens with qgroundcontrol or Mission Planner hence I know it's the protocol(or could be also limitation of the crossfire wifi module) . When I switch to Mavlink 2 I can upload missions in the other apps and parameter loading is drastically faster. To give you an idea of the setup:
      Ardupilot pixhawk -> crsf nano -> radiomaster tx16s with crsf mini V2 with Wifi AP -> Android phone connected to the crsf wifi 😊

    • @TheCarpPilot
      @TheCarpPilot  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MKrEvolution I understand. But my experience using USB radio, various TCP/UDP adapters and even Bluetooth adapter is that a mission is transferred in typically a second. The new version will do it automatically whenever you make any change (like move, reorder, add or delete a point) so you never have to bother. In addition, you actually do not have to upload any mission with the app if you do not want to do "auto" driving. For any goto task the boat never have to know the point. So provided you are not running automated mapping missions to scan a water the deal breaker is your own limitation...
      But, as said, it is on the agenda for the winter.

    How do u set language to english .she is spaeking in germany now . When i use the app .

    • @TheCarpPilot
      @TheCarpPilot  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Which device? If it is a Samsung, make the following adjustments: start Settings, choose General management, then choose text to speach. In preferred engine, select services from Google rather than Samsung. And then make sure language is set to use system language. I personally speak Norwegian, app default is by the way to use system language but can be overridden to use English.

    When marking a spot . Can you make so you take the Samsung tablet in the big boat out on the lake ,and mark the spot on the tablet . Now I habe to take the baitboat in the big boat out and mark them that way . If you know what I mean. Thanks 👍

    • @TheCarpPilot
      @TheCarpPilot  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      First of all let me say I am sorry I have not come around to make a video about spots. Because there are a lot of new stuff in the latest version.
      And then: Yes, you can add spots using a boat without having to bring the bait boat with you.
      Look at that blue + button. This is the one you use to add a new point where the boat is when the boat is connected.
      Now, long tap on that blue + Then it turns into a red + And you will see a message stating that the button adds new spots where YOU (or rather your tablet) is. In addition, the blue Android map position marker will appear. It updates every 2 seconds.
      When the button is red then tapping on it will add a marker where you are. And since the app after the latest version also auto saves "last known points" and stopped auto download of points when you connect the boat you will not loose those points later either.
      So from version 4.2, bring your tablet with you in the boat or dinghy and add the points you want 🙂

    I have a deeper pro+ attached to my boat with a WiFi bridge booster on the bank. Will this work with it?

    • @TheCarpPilot
      @TheCarpPilot  ปีที่แล้ว

      No, it will not. The Pro+ does not offer the needed NMEA interface and cannot be used for live mapping, and it also cannot be the source for GPS position. But you can indeed (using your tablet) open the deeper app, then select to share your depth logs TO the Carp Pilot Pro (and put them in the depth logs directory). And then yoou can create depth maps from your Pro+ depth logs and have the depth map visible on your boat driving map. And the depth map will be far more detailed and far easier to view than the maps produced by the Deeper app (Sorry, Deeper - that's just a fact).
      If you want to use Deeper as source for depth, temperature and even GPS position: Models providing NMEA data are: Chirp+, Chirp+ 2.0 and Pro+ 2.0

    is it possible to set waypoint, put our hook with bait on the boat, then boat will automatically goes to the waypoint leave the hook with bait and come back to home point automatically?

    • @TheCarpPilot
      @TheCarpPilot  ปีที่แล้ว

      Of course this is possible. The feature is called goto+ and is a premium feature. In this case you need a full blown autopilot, not just a wifi GPS (with wifi GPS and no autopilot, nothing can be done automatically)

    So my boat has a raymarine 5 pro and if i build this gps with wifi….the tablet uses both wifi’s or will it send it through the wifi of the raymarine?

    • @TheCarpPilot
      @TheCarpPilot  ปีที่แล้ว

      The GPS signal will be added through the Raymarine pro 5 wifi. The tablet you connect as usual to your Raymarine WIFI access point (needed anyway to use your wifish app). And then Carp Pilot Pro receives the GPS data through this wifi link as well. The boat used in this video has a Raymarine Dragonfly Pro5 and the exact same wifi gps inside

      @@TheXxxwallyxxx You will need to ask someone else than me about other apps. You can however use the Carp Pilot Pro with a rubber boat / dinghy together with a wifi GPS or any of the supported wifi echo sounders (mapping, waypoints and on...)

    I'm interested in this option I have a boat I'd like to add this to. It doesn't have a fixed echo sounder I do however have a chirp+ that l can attach to the rear of the boat is this something I could fit

    • @TheCarpPilot
      @TheCarpPilot  ปีที่แล้ว

      Long overdue I will look at making a video for two new images for the esp next week (just have to come back from a two weeks fishing trip in France... 😅). One image will fit the ones that does not have a built-in echosounder. For this purpose there is a pro version of the esp8266 that include a uFl antenna socket (it is possible to solder on such a socket on a regular esp8266, but getting one with a socket is much more convenient). Then you can mount an external antenna on the boat to get some distance for the wifi connection. Or add in a Booster in the boat and/or a a wifi extender/router on the shore (that's how Deeper has solved their distance challenge). Or, if you add that Chirp+ permanently (or semi-permanently) to the boat you can combine those suggestions (carry the GPS traffic thought that Deeper wifi commection. Right now we have the first two trying out the Deeper range extender and it did not work on the first try. But I got confirmed by Deeper support that their nmea abilities are fully supported with their Extender as well just some days back. So will look into why it did not instantly work shortly.

I have already talked to Deeper support that assures me the NMEA interface is available through their extended (and also how to reach the interface) and I have ordered a sample. Could I use this with a WiFi GPS and Vexilar Sp200?

    • @TheCarpPilot
      @TheCarpPilot  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have no experience with the Vexilar, but Iassume it has a built in DHCP server so a wifi device can connect to it and get an IP address (like your Tablet/Mobile does when you connect to it's access point). And then it depends what you ask about: It should make it possible to use the app and show the boat on the map, use points and all. But what does not work is to show the depth of your vexilar inside the Carp Pilot Pro, and also not to use live mapping. Question back...: When you use the vexilar, does the app offer you access to the depth logs after a mapping session? Or does it perhaps rely on the Navionics that does not offer you any log at all? User with a Deeper Pro+ (or any Deeper) can get to their depth logs and just share the file to Carp Pilot Pro so they can use the bathymetric editor to produce high quality depth maps...

    good afternoon and you can use the value rangefinder1 received from Pixhawk Instead of raymarine ? to measure the depth

    • @TheCarpPilot
      @TheCarpPilot  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes. If you have a fish finder or transducer that sends nmea0183 by cable, and you connect that nmea0183 output to a serial port on the pixhawk. Then the pixhawk will be sending the depth as part of the telemetry data. And you can use it for live mapping i the app. Some years back I wrote an article for the wiki on how to use an actisence dst2 device, utilizing a simple analog transducer and was successful in retrieving the depth data on shore. It is in the ardupilot Wiki where there is a selection of alternatives described. Including an article on using a Kogger transducer that also works quite well (although I think they are not delivering products for the time being).
