Underappreciated and loved by a lot of comics fans. She has a deep lore that I hope one day Marvel decides to give a real sincere shot at a TV or Movie franchise and Disney's politics don't morph her into something shes not. Like Jacob said in a comment, my attention to her came with the "Outback era" and pride of the Xmen pilot cartoon.
Okay but why in the bloody blue hell nobody’s giving her real props that Dazzler is an Omega Level Mutant...period!!!! She is The Mother of light and sound. Let that sink in for a fews minutes as i carry on.
My love for Dazzler began with the Outback Era of the Uncanny X-Men, natch. That she was able to stand out among a cast of characters that included such strong personalities as the likes of Storm, Rogue, and Wolverine really caught my attention, and I love that she loves to sing.
I'm very happy that Dazzler is getting her deserved time in the spotlight! But I have to ask: Will She-Hulk also be getting an "At 40" video too? Her debut was 40 years ago on November 13th and I'd love to see Shulkie get similar discussion video.
She’s getting a Marvel show and always in some comic monthly and you’re feeling that She Hulk is not getting her due because SyFy didn’t do a ten minute online only video on her? Okaaaaaay 🤪
@@PettyCrocker84 "Oookaaayyy" Thanks for assuming how I feel "😜" I was merely suggesting my favorite fictional character /also/ get a discussion video for the same milestone on a TH-cam channel I enjoy watching because it's something I /also/ want to see. Not once did I say she wasn't "getting her due". Also it's really obvious I know about She-Hulk's comic appearances and limited series on Disney+ by my recent TH-cam comments and even my profile picture. So just take your unnecessary comments elsewhere...
Dazzler was awesome. Part of me wishes she'd been modeled after the lovely Ms. Grace Jones, but Marvel was a long way from getting stories of people of color right. But why Bo Derek? She was incredibly gorgeous, but I can think of a dozen singer/musicians from that time that would have been more convincing. Debbie Harry immediately comes to mind.
"Marvel was a long way from getting stories of people of color right." Wrong, Black Panther was a black lead of a comic and they went above and beyond to stay away from the normal stereotypes, they lifted the character beyond skin color and made him his own character. He was followed and read because he was a great character instead of some stereotype skin color. So this BS about "Doing people of color right" is a racist remark whether you intended it to be or not. Educate yourself.
No they didn't. Do you know who even invented the Black Panther character? Do you think if people of color had been the principal writers of their own stories back then, they'd have written about a costumed king of an imaginary place on another continent? Do you think any black writer would not use the medium to tell stories a lot closer to home? Speaking as a Latino, I can name all of the Latinx characters - heroes and villains - written back then and could pick their stereotypes apart, but was happy enough to know they existed in the first place and they weren't being shipped off to some imaginary MesoAmerican country, where their power couldn't interfere with a white American hegemony. No one faults Marvel for trying. They were a hell of a lot more courageous than, say, television and film. But to prop up Black Panther as a model of true representation... yeah. I mean, I wouldn't. But you do you. Of course, I was alive when all those titles were on the shelves. I read them!
@@tyloona The original Captain Marvel, Blade, Falcon, Prowler, Luke Cage, Misty Knight, Storm, War Machine... all in the 70's or older. I really like Dazzler.. rumor has it that Taylor Swift will play her as cameo in the upcoming X-Men films, but they said the same thing too back in 2006 that Madonna would play her after "Hung Up" was released.
Thanks for making me feel old. I remember picking up the first issue of Dazzler at a comic shop and then putting it into a collectable bag for safe keeping. It's still in a longbox somewhere in the back of a closet.
People always laugh when I say Dazzler is one of my favorite classic characters, but her original series was fun. It was part superhero story/part musical soap opera.
I've always liked Dazzler, mainly because she's a mutant, and for me, x-men over every other comic book character! I read and overall enjoyed her 42 issue run from the 80s, and I still have them. I love her origin story in that first issue. I also wrote a poem based on her origin and powers, and I plan to release it for the world to hear someday. Beauty and the Beast by Ann Nocenti and Don Perlin is good too. The first time I met Nocenti, which was at East Coast Comic Con (2019), I brought an original page from that series and issue #2 for her to sign. Later I sold the page for a particular reason lol, but I still have the book, CGC graded signed by Nocenti, Perlin and Shooter. Dazzler will never go out of style.
if it happened, white fans of the time would have been screaming about "forced diversity" and "WHY ARE THERE TWO BLACK WOMEN ON THE TEAM!?? WHY ALL THE POLITICAL CORRECTNESS??" lol.. at least the alternate universe Dazzler will be based on Grace Jones.
As such a icon Dazzler is I wonder how will people react if we saw her as she was intended to look like. Black, light skin, maybe. I dream with the idea of a Dazzler tv series. :(
True to the adage that your first exposure is usually your favorite, to me Dazzler belongs in Mojoworld fighting alongside Longshot in her slightly militarized update of 80's blue costume.
Creators: "She Sings'. She Dances!" Me: Which is why she'd work great for a solo movie, especially in the age of the Internet. Good Script+ singer-actor= $$$$ !!
So we’re not gonna give the fact that the editor whitewashed her anymore discussion? Also I don’t think they would have canceled her if she looked like the badass goddess Grace Jones
Bo Derrick was the "it girl" of the time, simple as that, though would've been cool to see her grace jones look in the pages would've been a bit awkward seeing her and storm together, looks too similar
Dazzler was the embodiment of the saying: "All style and no substance." As a matter of fact, she is more of a young female adult novel character than a marvel superhero. Because of this reason, she is nothing but a "C" level character in the marvel universe.

I have loved Dazzler since I bought Uncanny X-Men 130 off the spinner rack as a kid! That JR Jr. cover had me at first sight.

Grey Bar0n Still got mine too.
One of my first comics was Dazzler #2. I have most of the original run. Good to hear so many behind the scene things about Dazzler.
The x-men annual issue 11 was my first x-book and favorite. Dazzler was in the original animated x-men pilot , pride of the x-men.
Damn, I think if anyone deserves a "gritty reboot" it should be Dazzler. Could you even imagine what she'd be like in the age of streaming music?
I love Dazzler! So underrated.
I love dazzler 😍 my favorite superhero .i have all her comics .they should bring her series back .
Some of the best stories come from "I was sitting in a bar..."
That’s how I met my latex salesman.
People always laugh when I say Dazzler is one of my favorite classic characters, but her original series was fun. It was part superhero story/part musical soap opera.
No matter what other people think.
I think Dazzler is a cool character and my opinion is the only thing that matters 😍
How does it hold up now? Is it cringey and dated?
I meant cringy.
Surprised at no mention of her inclusion in the classic Konami X-Men Arcade game.
True. I as someone born in the 80's, that's my first reference point for the character.

She would’ve been fierce being modeled after Grace Jones 🤷🏾♂️ I wish that idea could’ve stuck
She always looked /seemed more like Debbie Harry to me.
I don't understand the hate... or the neglect of page time. Dazzler is awesome! If writers took her seriously fans would love her.
Dazzler is deeper than I thought...
Dazzler has no limit to her power which should really be explored more. She's way more than a singer that makes her own lightshow
Dazzler is meant for TV and films.
Someone should let Romita JR know that Grace Jones isn't dead, cause he talks about her, looking up into the heavens as if she is.
It was actually a play on how much taller she is than him.
She should be Grace Jones... 👀
Would've been cool if she was designed after Geace Jones, would've been cool seeing her and Storm together
if it happened, white fans of the time would have been screaming about "forced diversity" and "WHY ARE THERE TWO BLACK WOMEN ON THE TEAM!?? WHY ALL THE POLITICAL CORRECTNESS??" lol.. at least the alternate universe Dazzler will be based on Grace Jones.
Claremont wrote a really bad Dazzler! He threw out here personality
Love Dazzler!
I loved grace Jones in conan
What about Donna Summer? I see Olivia Newton John playing her too to be honest.
I love her retro suit she wore in Pryde of the X-Men and the Konami arcade game
As such a icon Dazzler is I wonder how will people react if we saw her as she was intended to look like.

Ugh I love the dazzler has been one if my favorites! I collected her comics
Im sure that everything dazzler wasn’t meant to be mentioned in this video but I recall first seeing her in the X-men arcade game.
I am Team Dazzler!
Never knew Dazzler was black until I saw this vid ✊🏿
I love Dazzler. I have always thought of her as an allegory for how minorities are treated in the entertainment industry.
No mention of her cat and hobo killing sister LOIS LONDON?! Get @ Danny Fingeroth and ask him!
Dazzler 4 ever! ❤

KISS was going to be involved in this project? Didn't we suffer enough with "KISS Meets The Phantom"?
I want her in a marvel vs capcom game so bad
Old school fan
I went to another video after they went from Grace Jones to Bo Dereck...
Why is John Romita pointing to heaven? Grace Jones is still very much alive and still performs.
cool
I love dazzler

LOL She would not have lasted half as long if she were modeled after Grace, GTFO.
Seems very close to Jem or vice versa...
There's *another* Ralph Macchio?!!
It seems so, the other one is the Karate Kid
Disco...😛
Just not Into it,
Never have been,
Regardless though I always got a kick out of Dazzler in her heyday as a character.
Dazzler was the only good thing in dark phoenix
Lol
Ann Nocenti still looks hot .
How bogus and racist. She should of been black. I actually liked dazzler before I saw this. Then I got mad.
Any bets that when Dazzler makers her MCU debut, she will be played by a black woman?
Maybe...
Taylor Swift is rumored to play Dazzler in the upcoming X-Men films, back in 2006, it was Madonna who's supposed to play Dazzler in the Fox universe.
Dig the backstory for sure, but Allison’s character still is a joke to me even today, and I’m a typical leftist X-Men/mutant fan!
Thank God it got cancel
Lady Gaga has to play her if there’s ever going to be a movie about her
