As always, Shrek is absolutely bang-on. One of my neighbors drove a taxi in Oslo as a member of the Norwegian Resistance during WWII. For years, he drove his taxi while operating as a Resistance messenger; delivered weapons and supplies throughout the city; picked up and delivered Resistance members and provided daily intelligence of things he saw throughout the city until he was finally betrayed. The Gestapo were not kind - he barely survived until liberation, but carried the scars for the rest of his life. Like Shrek, he said that nobody ever paid attention to taxis or taxi drivers as he conducted his Resistance business every day.
You are one of the most authentic, genuine, self- made -man I've ever seen. I've only known about you from your SRS gig 3cweeks ago and I've listened to 40 shorts and 10 long interviews. 😮😮😊❤
When we first began operations in Baghdad (1CD, 2004) we didn't realize Iraqi taxis were also sometimes orange and white. One of our units was attacked and the guys took off in an orange and white Nissan. Description of the car was called into the Div TOC, we had helos in the air, put a BOLO out to all units, and figured it would be pretty easy to spot such a noticeable car. Then we started getting SPOT reports from all over town with sightings of the orange and white Nissan. That's when the lights went on.
Same thing in 2003 during invasion when we get to outskirts of Baghdad. We were thinking the same orange and white car was pulling up and turning around in front of us. Would have been nice info to have.
Watched a Navy SEAL YTuber's video yesterday about how much $ each video cost him to make - _hundreds to thousands of dollars_ . "Cameras, camera man, editor, script writing" Then there's John. In a van. With a selfie stick. Telling remarkable stories. I'm sure there's costs. I'm also sure content quality is a factor. You're a great storyteller.
I have a full notebook full of shrek's wisdom and quotes, hand written, across all his podcasts and interviews, i literally have to stop the video every 20 to 30 seconds to write down a golden nugget of wisdom shrek shares just like that, Dude's a bottomless well of wisdom, i call it "Shrekery". my most precious book in my collection. I write a quote, then -John Shrek Mcphee SOB- every single time under every single quote. I started following Shrek years ago since before it was cool, best decision i made with using the internet.
I worked as a gov't contractor in A'Stan. During one internal meeting I suggested that we aquire a Toyota Corolla station wagon and/or a Toyota HiAce van to do our work, but it was forbidden. HQ had decreed that any time an American went outside the wire, it was in a hard car. Almost 20 years later, I still want a tricked out mini van.
I worked in several countries. Never drove a taxi. However, I always hired a taxi and told him I was a journalist and wanted a personal tour. Eventually they were recon tours. After a few tours I would get myself invited to his home. The excuse was that I wanted to see how a regular family lived. I always took gifts. A sowing kit or kitchen appliance for the wife. Soccer balls for the boys and dolls for the girls. An expensive bottle of booze for the cabbie... even in non alcohol societies. It was a status symbol. More than once I rode out of a bad situation in the trunk of a cabbie.
I just ran across this man. He's hilarious. Would have never guessed, knowing his background. He has comedy retired combat soldier sitcom written all over him.
Weird, even before I went to become a reserve Infantry soldier I flagged Toronto's cabs as a potential risk. They come and go in all neighborhoods, have coms, speak in their own languages often, usually get their friends n family in as the insurance is huge for cabs. So yeah It's great if you're looking to hide but it's also a whole network potentially.
SMG, were you at Bragg when 7th moved to FL? I was there from 2007 to 2012. I heard a lot about you while I was there. It's cool to hear the same story about the man from the man that the stories were about.
I was wrong about you at first John your a dying breed and we need less cry babies and more men like you :) i laugh regularly watching you and you dont realise how funny you are lol.

Jeez, I saw that mercedes logo early in, and conjured up stories about how you bought the thing (probably some criminal mercenary deal), all while listening to taxi stories...
I could listen to shrek’s war stories forever.

His life needs a film.
The stories of what John did never ceases to amaze me.
Telling civ pop that story and doing that shit at the end of the video is fkn hysterical

Thank God This Man's on Our Side 😂
Awesome video
Shrek dude - just keep filming your life man. People eat this stuff up. Outtakes and all man. Could watch you all day.
You're my favorite person on the internet right now. You are both terrifying and captivating at the same time! LOLLLL!
Funny as hell and deadly as hell at the same time. Why can't we have somebody like this in our police and government?
Great times! Keep the memories coming!
I am just glad he is on our side. Rad vibe
Glamping in a mini tour bus styled sprinter camper, like a real veteran 😅
I would be very grateful to have this legend as a neighbor

I really enjoy your videos and interviews.
This guy cracks me the fuck up. It's just a matter of time before this channel is as big as Mr. Beast.

I would sure love to learn from this man.
Best outro I’ve seen in a while
Yup. The white and orange taxis were everywhere and we ignored them most of the time.
Tactical acquisition was one of my specialties. It was like GONE in 60 Seconds over there.
Cool dude you are brother for real I love your stories
I just ran across this man. He's hilarious. Would have never guessed, knowing his background. He has comedy retired combat soldier sitcom written all over him.
You are on to something… they always have these serious shows about SF dudes… well.. why not a sitcom based on the Shrek taxi service?
@phlpblr I would definitely watch it.
Have a good week sir.
The Mercedes symbol part 😜👌🏼

As a while male in U.S. I've found that I'm mostly ignored since about 55 years old and turning grey. I'm a non entity.
Get used to it, you’re invisible now…comes with the old-age package. As Shrek would say; “ya shoulda read the fine print.”
@HombreDeLaNorte Hombre, I'm 63 now and used to it indeed. It's not such a bad thing. I like the anonymity mostly. Feels like a secret weapon. ☠️
Used to get BOLOs all the time for orange and white cars (taxis) ... It was like, "thanks, S2. You guys are great"
you made me laugh so hard at the end, love you

Invisible, invincible, invulnerable.
Just like having a white pickup truck with some orange lights on top and a high-vis vest in the US. Fuckin' invisible.

Until someone comes up wanting in to get a ride… True story, boy was that guy surprised.
Cant wait to get my flying carpet
They were lucky to have a crazy man like you to pull off so many missions.
What he is doing is Crazy...but he is doing it on a High Skill set level using his OWN COMMON SENSE!
Crazy? Nah he’s brilliant with balls.
it's the world that's crazy he just sees and understands reality and can actually operate in it which is why he is so zen
I hope Salamon is sponsoring them shoe shots..😂
You stole that move from "Running Scared" had to. Still love it
I learned long ago: a high vis vest makes you invisible 😉
