New update on my model railroad layout and adding details.

  • In this I give you an update on the harbor scan that I'm building on my model railroad layout. I talk about creating a story or history to help make your layout or diorama more realistic. I also discuss using photo reference to help give your modeling more of a natural look.
We start a new structure and add some details to some old structures. I also give you a close up look at the progress on the harbor scene and discuss how I'm creating the illusion of history on it.
If you would like to see more of my work, please visit me on
Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter at Jason Jensen Trains
    Thank you for watching and
    happy modeling!!!

I live in New Zealand, problem I am now faced with ... Hobby space = sorted, scale = sorted, what you want to model = sorted. Loco's required, can't find them any where.

Awrite big man hows life ,...isopropyl alchahol mixed with your paint instead of water wil stop warping n dry it toot sweet...depending on paint it might need a little water as well.

Thank you so much for subscribing! I really appreciate it. The second kit was a limited edition kit from Barmills which contained 3 seperate structures. The kit sold out so it is no longer available. Sorry about that. Thanks for watching!!!

Hello, you certainly put an amazing amount of thought into what you do. Having a history for your layout is as important as giving it a purpose. Your buildings are museum quality. Stunning in their detail. Your art background shows up in your color work. I'm looking forward to future episodes. See ya next time.

I have not for the simple fact that I have enough pastel chalks to last me years. I've used pastels ever since I started and I'm really happy with the results.

@@JasonJensenTrains ... You may have mentioned this in annother Video: So if so, which one (I haven't watched them all yet)?
What would you suggest to use as a type of sealer on Pastels for a Moduler Layout, where small parts are not permantly attached to the surface, to prevent rubbing?

    • @JasonJensenTrains
      @JasonJensenTrains  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Neville, I would suggest Testors dull coat. I've used it in the past and I'm happy with the results!

Thanks Jason. Another great lesson and demonstration of your layering of shades and dry-brushing techniques. I also use a lot of craft paints, but have used palettes so I can close the bottles. Do you find it has any effects on the paint leaving them open for a while as you use different shades?

Great Video, Jason. I like your Finishing Techniques. Have you considered putting small random amounts of the Mixture, that you suggested could represent Rust, on the base of the Bster Traps, and just touchinh them to a couple of random locations on the Deck/s, so that it looks like residue from piles of traps that had been sitting there for a while? It would also take any bare look from such decks.
ps .. Something that might be of help to your viewers, is that, as you are obviously aware, the Any Particular Colour will Look Different on Different Materials/Surfaces, such as a Certain Mix of Paint will look like a different Shade of it on Various Types of Wood, and it will look different again on Plastic. Just like on different Types/Grades of Paper.

So glad you posted this update Jason. Have you given any thought to the type of bridge you plan to put over the harbor? I know you approach is typically more Artistic but if you decide to go more prototypical, I would imagine a lift bridge of some type in order to give clearance to larger vessels or even sailing ship masts. Most lifting bridges would be large and more complicated structures but a small draw bridge or even a rolling lift style would fit that area well and wouldn't over power the scene. In fact a rolling lift style would look amazing with the mechanical end facing the front of the isle where the detail can show. Cheers, Rob
