You're absolutely right about the Black Wash... The last step, but it really brings out the tiny details! Your use of colors has a definite Artist's touch. After 45 years in the Hobby, I'm STILL learning that. 😳

Excellent video. It's so refreshing to see someone not need all of the many paints, powders, adhesives, etc. that are on the market and instead use everyday dollar a bottle acrylics, Elmers, etc. I really appreciate how you fast forward some of the more tedious/repetitive portions of the video. The only suggestion I'd make for future videos is to linger just a couple of more seconds on the detailed close ups. Several times just about when the camera focused you pulled away. Keep up the fabulous work. You are an inspiration. Dave
I'm new to your channel. Been following me for a couple of days now catching up on some old shows that you posted. The only thing that I've seen so far that I didn't like what's the way your water looked in the harbor but you answered that question at the end of this video by telling me it wasn't done yet. Looking forward to the finished product this water is one of the toughest things to do. I love good craftsmanship and painting techniques. Everything's not always about how many Rail lines wide your layout is I have to tell a story and you're certainly does. I've seen plenty of cab ride videos on warehouses that are housing layouts it seemed to be put together an 8-foot chunks. Seems like the only thing they want to accomplish is to have the largest and the most track. But yours is a masterpiece. Be following the rest of your videos

Jason in one of those videos that You exchanged Your techniques in a project with Your FOS Scale friend Doug, I guess the 4th edition, You used the Krylon limestone spray paint! In which kind of surface can I apply such paint! Can I use it on pink styrofoam to color rock faces, for example? Maybe it can not be use on styrene, right?
Kudos, you are an artist! One suggestion. When you do a closeup to show something you just detailed, maybe you could hold it for a few extra seconds. I like to pause and get a screen shot for help with my modeling. Thank you!
As much detail as you wre putting in would have made more sense to start further back. Of course you did say th he layout is in modules basically so I am assuming you can take the foreground section out to work father back. Also are you going to do any forced perspective
@@JasonJensenTrains Well that sounds like some N scale structures & details. Are there any TT Scale details or structures out there that might work. With the plethora of scales out there. We have O at 1/48th, S at 1/64th, OO at 1/76, HO at 1/87 (3.5mm per foot), TT at 1/120, N at 1/160 and Z at 1/220. I'm kind of surprised that we didn't see a 1/96 scale (call it True HO) or a 1/100 scale (call it 100M or M100) come out of Europe. Given the dominance of the metric system in Europe this actually would have made sense. Of course the model railroad scales are no where as screwy as aircraft, ships and tank models. 1/32, 1/35, 1/48, 1/64, 1/72, 1/76 etc add in the really weird 1/33 card models from European publishers such as Halinski (weird because of the ratio in a metric environment). But the model railroad hobby was only going to support so many scales. O is simply too large for the average home layout. S is borderline. HO strikes a fine balance between detail, reliability and size. N is getting pretty damn good. Z and TT I simply do not know that much about.

You are at the top of group of people on TH-cam I watch and learn from who are willing to share what they know in an instructive manner. While my hobby is model ships, all the detailing techniques get used to create realism as they remain valid. Since detail is the topic, please allow me to note a flaw on the wooden deck pilings. The rope hand rail is on the wrong side of the pilings and your little people are liable to fall through if they get too close to the edge. Thank you for sharing!

Your work and attention to detail rivals his work and going step by step with your videos has been very entertaining. Jason. I have a question. On the craftsman wood kits you build I see they have large tabs to orient the sides to each other. On a clapboard or similar style building this is not a problem as the corner strim will cover this up. But what about laser etched brick or concrete block walls. Are we looking at sanding the corners to 45° on the back side and hoping to hide the gaps that might happen. Or are the kits made with finger joints between the individual courses so that the courses of one wall actually end even with the outside of the wall perpendicular to it. Think of it as a drawer with box or finger joints. If one uses 3/32 Basswood for example it actually gives an extremely close scale wall thickness as a standard concrete block is 8x8x16. This scales out to within a couple of thousands of 3/32×3/32×3/16. Now I admit cutting this by hand can be taxing on the eyes but with a laser it should be a piece of cake. I've been messing around with the technique the only thing holding me back right now is grinding #18 Exacto blades reliably to the right width to plunge cut end of the slot that the course on the other wall would mate with. I used to have access to all kinds of tool room machinery at work but sadly that's in the past. A #18 ground to 3/32nd wide would make it extremely easy to cut the ends of the slots cleanly.
Plastic figures usually kill the scenes for me as most usually are the weakest part of a scene but yours look very good as im sure others have noticed as well. I cant wait to see whats next. When you get to the subway, keep in mind that they don't always have to be underground, some rugged areas could have them above and below ground. A small piece of elevated could be dramatic as well. Separating plastic kits often causes damage to the bits we want so finding out how an acknowledged master does it would help a lot.
What amazes me is your eye for detail, and your ability to just invent structures for your model. It has become quite evident to me that a great deal of time must be spent at the paint booth weathering what ever it is that you are building. The details is what really makes the scene too. Thanks to you that will change.I read some other comments and agree I would like to see a video on painting figures, but I am more interested in where you and other get the large variety of different. Seems all dealers carry the same painted or unpainted expensive figures. One of your best yet. You took it from the start of accumulating castings and painting them to placement of them. I enjoy when you share your expertise on the placement of things. I have difficulty with how you determine how to place buildings to there best advantage such as you did with the placement of detail parts.

When I but a wee lad the neighbor across the street had a large basement layout. For cr oil we scenes, ie passenger stations, would use figure castings in the front and fill in behind them with scale figures made from pipe cleaners. Printed cinder blocks. Do I detect a masonary scratchbuild coming up.

It can not be used on styrofoam. It will destroy it. It can be used on paper products and wood. Maybe on plastic but I have not tried that yet.

Nice echo I personally stack such small items onto ordinary pins , keeps your fingers clean! and let them dry on a small magnet bar.

Jason would you build a Jordan vehicle on a video please. I have trouble with them and gluing them together. The glue I try just dont hold them together. What glue do you use for Jorden models? Jason where are your Bouys at?

Yet, another excellent video on your amazing work. I'm sure I will be able to do better detail work on my someday layout. I have put details on past layout but nothing as detailed as yours. Thanks to you that will change.I read some other comments and agree I would like to see a video on painting figures, but I am more interested in where you and other get the large variety of different. Seems all dealers carry the same painted or unpainted expensive figures. Do you refigure yours and add to them because I have never seen so many different figures on both yours and other good modelers layouts.Thanks again.

When I but a wee lad the neighbor across the street had a large basement layout. For cr oil we scenes, ie passenger stations, would use figure castings in the front and fill in behind them with scale figures made from pipe cleaners.
Printed cinder blocks. Do I detect a masonary scratchbuild coming up.
