I know right! Freshman year in college in 2002 was when I discovered this. Played the shit out of it. Then UT 2003 came out not long after. This was always my favorite game of all time though. The Game of Year edition.
Wow the memories. I remember playing this day after day. 90% percent of my playing was facing worlds. What a great game and time for PC gamers this was.
Me too. There was a dedicated Facing Worlds server that I played day in and day out. Who knows, we may have played on it together at one point. I usually had some variation of Jerry Springer has my name or just Springer.
So glad I got to play this when it first came out... 1999! No one complained about balancing issues, nerfing weapons, and all the whining that happens with FPS games these days. Back then, it was PLAYING and overcoming difficult challenges. Remember the spawn point beside the tower where one could camp the spawn point of the opposing tower? Once you spawn, you had to run and I mean run quickly to the back of the tower and figure out how to take out the sniper. Love it!
Im was 11 years old back in 99, got this game from my uncle as a birthday present. My first FPS online gaming experience, and the best FPS era of all time. When I turned 17/18, my friends played COD on playstation with controller. It felt like I arrived in the past, and I came from the future (UT99 with mouse & keyboard superior skills compared to controller).
I played this on my family pc when i was 5 or 6. Glad to see this map again after so many years. I would have been uncertain if this was the game if it wasn't for this map.
Problem is, you look like a fucking Toucan on top of a stark white house on those towers. You also have to concentrate your aim on the sniper's outpost, the middle grounds, and the floor, but the top and bottom are most important.
Played the Hell out of this for a few years, some on eastern US public servers. 16 on Facing World was true mayhem, as were many other arenas. Really sucked playing online with 56k modem at first until I got cable modem. I once captured the flag with a 1000 ping. . . . hah! Aim bots/cheaters ruined the online experience so went back offline playing on lan for a couple years, then my eyes got worse as I am now an old fart. Game companies need profit first so changed later games for wider age range, and 'pop' gaming. Skins, voice packs, modifications etc. all made this game great. By the way, I was the voice of Chester in the Chester voicepack.
Lmao who is still playing this game? I sure am!! This game has worked from Windows 98 to Windows 10. Now at 21 years later and it is still hilarious the incredible action this game had!!. The Unreal Editor was crazy easy to make maps with no skills needed, this is what made this game the greatest FPS ever made. The music, the talking taunts, the audio fx, the graphics, the insane network play support just awesome!!. There are still hundreds of servers still running.
What did you just say about CoD? No one talks about CoD that way. CoD is the greatest FPS ever created! And...pppphh...LMFAO!!! Sorry, I couldn't say that with a straight face.
Thank you for this video. I used to play this when I was like only 7 or so. I saw a facebook video and I swear I recognized all the sounds so after searching the internet, I found this. Nearly made me cry, I remember all the fun I had on this and it brought so many memories back to me I thought I would never think of again. So thank you❤
Oh wow, the nostalgia! This game randomly came to my memory the other day. Had to look it up. So glad you've put it on here 😊 I also miss the game No one lives forever 1 and 2.
00:15 - Holy shit! Thats a head shot with a sniper! I used that gun in this game, and waited at the top of the tower. Then I locked at the players and it was always head shots! I was a killer at long rage in this game. In Capture The Flag, in this map, I was the boss in the area. Each time I saw the enemy coming closer, I said this: "Hello, baby! Say hello to my sniper bullet!" And It was head shot all the time. I only got owned once, but it wasn't from this map. It was from the Lava map with the Two castles.
True. I got owned by a five rocket seekers, from a rocket launcher my friend had. When I saw him with my sniper, it was too late. I remember saying this: "OH SHIT!" And then, the body of my character was sent flying, with 0 HP. I lost all my weapons. It was the only time I got owned in a Multi-Player Capture Flag.
This is the first online game for me, i was 13 stealing weed from my mom, smoking in my grandpa’s garage, connecting to dial up on the farm and owning noobs for days.
Ahh the good old days indeed. I wish games even had half the variety in weapons UT had. I forget that was so long ago now, but look at those weapons! The missile launcher with the 1-6 missile volley, the plasma rifle with the exploding ball when you shoot through it. The levels ... ahh it may be nostalgia but today too many games are close clones of everything else.
I remember my older brother playing this on the ps2 with the extension for the controllers so you could play split-screen 4 players, him and his boys up all night and I'd watch sometimes play one or two games
facing worlds.... the best map ever.... period.... IVE GOT THE FLAG!!! I cant even begin to count the amount of good sleep i lost because of this game. The frustration of beging halfway home with the flag and getting sniped. Piston campers.... talking trash - with a keyboard lol.... the constant sound of the siren going off when a flag was taken. anyone remember the christmas tree flags at christmas time? time to dust off the UT99 disks and see if theyll still load. great memories...
Good old times, my first online game played...today the games arent the same as old games, like in 1990 2000. Example, for me, bf2 was and still the best online game ever made...fun,trolls,mess,friends, squad and voip kkkk. Today bf series are progressing in graphics and tecnology but regressing in fun. It is fun online but nothing compare to bf2. Bf4 is a lone wolf online game.
The weapon is called the "redeemer". it's a mega-rocket that you can hand-guide, it nukes the area around where it lands. I didn't know you could ride it though...
In December, 2000, I was working at a dot-com, SixtyFootSpider.com, that went bankrupt and laid off over half the employees. I still had a job, and there were negotiations for a buy-out of our assets. I moved into my boss's office, and every day from 9am until 5pm, I did nothing but play UT CTF... until May when the buyout went through, and I went to my new job. Best. Job. Ever.
UT99's Master Server is going down in May, which is sad. Gamespy got bought out, and the company who bought them is shutting down everything Gamespy. Go figure... another Acquire and Destroy scenario.
The moment I heard that music *tears*

I want the golden age of games to come back.

How to play online?
Yes. Simple. No inventory management to interfere with the task. Just WSAD, mouse and change weapon button. I liked the Instagib only version.
So glad I got to play this when it first came out... 1999! No one complained about balancing issues, nerfing weapons, and all the whining that happens with FPS games these days. This is the best game that was ever created. This is the game that actually made me a gamer !!. Heil Unreal tournament 1999
AMEN, brother! I used to play this game constantly! Best ever.
Ditto to that!
Hell yes I was the clan leader from the {G}ibbers 👍
This game was the shit. Coming back after school, to binge play this. Good ol' days.

Arena shooters need to take back their rightful place as the true Kings of FPS.
this is where you separate the man from the boys. this took skilled kids
agreed, I remember I was playing this game in 2000 and this is not UT 2003.
3:08 Gotta love the strange love games. this is so nostalgia for me, i loved this game so much. and that music.... man 99 was awesome.

Yep. Once i have got a Monsterkill with sniping.
Best map in general.

Lol, I can relate. I still play Quake 1 and Quake 3. Sry UT fans, probably started a hate war there.
God this takes me back... really was the Golden Age of PC FPS online gaming. Before the likes of Halo. Teleport Jumps!

I hope so, I might even dig it out the cupboard and install it again.
Amazing game, how did you manage to fly on the Redeemer though, is that a mod? I never knew you could do that....
It was a mod called "Stranglelove". It let you ride the redeemer like the nuclear missile at the end of the Dr. Strangelove movie.
Good ol' memories
How is it possible to play online? Any help will be appreciated!
you have to edit some .ini file to point to the gameserver since gamespy were closed by gready wall street guys
