- In Italy an 18th birthday is a huge deal. Usually big parties are held and everyone dresses up. But in these times of lockdown and restricitons it would be impossible to hold such an event.
So for Skyes birthday we just made it the best we could. Lots of balloons, lots of cake (to be shared out to family and friends the next day and also to be eaten by us for the next 5 days!) Lots of silver streamers, music and silly hats and sunglasses.. It wasn't what she had dreamed of but it was the best we could do and we all had fun.

Me too Connie, I've been learning Italian since 1st lockdown so listening to Carlo with the subtitles is great. Thank you Nicki and Carlo for your videos, shame Skye's 18th wasn't a big party. They'll be a lot of catching up to do when we all can. 🥳

Anyone complaining about not getting a reply to their comment needs to grow up. Your whole family has been SO generous sharing your lives with us. I know that your videos have been so helpful for me in quarantine when I feel so disconnected from the rest of the world outside my own home. I enjoy learning about the Italian culture and traditions from someone who is living it, rather than some fly by night youtube vlogger who comes in for a day or so and dashes out. My Dad's parents were raised in Austria and Italy - grandmom was Italian and Pop was German and their families moved to Austria - Salzburg, Grandmom cooked German for Pop but also Italian - taught my mother different dishes and also Mom made her own noodle pasta and Spaetzle - Nocla dropped dumplings - they were hard not soft and used in stews or with fried potatoes with cooked cabbage - very good. I'm second generation on Dad's side and love films made in Italy and Austria. I enjoy the pasta meals you all make - very simple yet very filling - til later MLA

I'm watching from Greece and it's only minus 5C right now. Love the scene of you sitting having your lunch outside on that beautiful swing and that background to die for!. I spent the afternoon shoveling snow and ice off my veranda and making a path out to my snow-covered car. Italy looks so lovely compared to the weather here!

I’m laughing about your “manure” timing. I live in Pennsylvania in farming area. The farmers ALWAYS spread the field with manure in the spring and fall - and it always seems to be just before we have company as well. Love watching you.

Hi Nicki and Carlo, this is actually Pam Bartlett writing. We are from US, currently California, but raised our 2 girls in Rome (about 10 years) and then spent a couple years in Sunningdale near Windsor. We spent many weekends and holidays in Positano while living in Rome. Your videos of life in Italy with your daughter reminds us so much of our time there. We sometimes stayed at Barilotto's and were graciously fed by them. Thank you for sharing a bit of the life we miss so much!! My daughter was married in Rome about 10 years ago with the reception at Casina Valadier and Brenda Babcock helped with the wedding. Since you do weddings and she does them throughout Italy, I thought you might know her. Would love to hear from you- thank you for making this lockdown year a little more pleasant!
