      hunger games yeah I think he peaked at TFIOS! He should write more from the perspective of a girl. I think that brings out the best of his creativeness.
      All his other books are like the secret fantasies of a nerdy teenager who kNOWS deep down that the popular girl really belongs with him because he is the only one who understands her SOUL.

      hunger games I've been reading John Green lately and I'm really getting annoyed at the whole "I've found the answer to the world" moment that the main characters have. Paper Towns was fun at first but then when he was like "You're not the Margo I know, everything I know was a lie" it just got very annoying and I just zoned out.

    I really, really love Peeta from the Hunger Games, but I seem to be in the minority, which makes me sad. Peeta is smart, compassionate and kind, and that makes him perfect to balance out Katniss' angry and damaged character. Plus he doesn't, you know, drop bombs on people.

    I get your opinions about Sirius Black and Snape.
    The reason why I love Sirius is because the storyline shows he has a really big heart. He could have been developed into an amazing character. Also: he was lost in grief (who wouldn't be when you spent 12 years in Azkaban?), so I get the projection of Harry being his dad. But on the other hand, the way he acted is a little on the childish side sometimes. I liked Lupin way more :D

    I loved the Hunger Games books, but I thought the films were such a massive improvement on them. Especially the last book.
    I remember reading the last book and being bored, especially when she was trapped in District 13, but in the films, they managed to capture that feeling of anxiety and claustrophobia while she waits so perfectly. That part of the story came across as a little dull in the books.

    I think I'm the only one who didn't like Katniss from the Hunger Games. I just found her so annoying because she didn't want to work with anyone and seemed to only care about herself. Don't hate me please.

    • @gunnerchi4206
      @gunnerchi4206 8 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I hate her too! She comes off like she all this and that to me (I've only watched the movies; the books are horribly written.). I mean Petta is just trying to Survive by getting sponsors and when he says he has a crush on Katniss, she goes ape shit then pretends to like him to get him help. Then she acts bitchy in the second movie because another girl pretends things like she did in the first movie. Also, why the hell would anyone want to date her? Shehas PDSD and is crazy to a point; she needs help, not love to abuse them. And also it doesn't help that Hunger Games rips of Battle Royale; I mean it really does, just watch the Battle Royale movie and see how many scenes were ripped off.

    I think you should DEFINITELY finish the legend series, but in a "quick" way. Read the last two books in succession and (if you really want to enjoy it) the first book as well. Basically, just marathon the series. That is what I did and i loved the series. By the end of Champion, I was in tears. I get why people dislike it though. If the books are read months away from eachother you loose interest in the characters, and are not as interested in getting through some slow pieces. Honestly the whole time I was caught up in Day's badass (if sometimes extremely emotional) character and June's love for him. My final opinion is that you should definitely read it, but marathon it! :D

      I thought that there were utter trash, which really disappointed me because so many people recommend them to me, and they were the kind of genre I normally like. Unfortunately you could see the "plot twists" coming a mile away & the characters were one detentional stereotypes. They were just trying way too hard. Furthermore it just felt to me at least like the world was made up of cherry picking from other more popular book series. Muggles became Mundanes for example. It kind of felt like Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, Twilight and The Starwars "I am your Father" moment had a baby, And they tried to have an abortion, but the disfigured remains lived on in this book

      Hannah Galloon Totally right. On the other hand I can see the point Regan makes about given importance to things that seem irrelevant, I was there a few times myself, the thing is that the more you get into the books you see that all that is building up to something, sometimes it can take hundreds or even thousands of pages to finally pay off and that is NOT for everyone, but I find it amazing, the foreshadowing, the little hints here and there you miss, and eventually the revelation or event that puts it all together! I am actually re reading the first book and I can notice these things easily now and is mind blowing. The guy is a genius.

      SPOILERS
      Jamie randomly raping Cersei, and in turn undoing ALL of his character development with Brienne was the worst idea I think D&D have implanted into the entire show.
      I mean, Stannis' daughter was - horrible, to say the least, but that action kinda fit in with who he is in the show. Jaimie actions just felt forced, like they thought nothing controversial had happened for a while.

      Nah, I read TID before as well, you have to understand that the first three books are older so she's less experienced, just try and plough through them, then the fourth one is where you connect with the writing more, as it's more up to date and then I tend to find you really enjoy the fifth and sixth, (plus the sixth has basically a whole epilogue dedicated to TID fans) then after that read the bane chronicles and shadowhunter academy ( if you haven't already) as it has a lot of extra stuff for TID fans as well, THEN you will be up to date, ready for the show in January 2016, which could, if successful, involve TID plotline and characters.

      I read the first four books of TMI and I'm gonna be honest, the only reason I even started reading the series was because I found out Robert Sheehan (whom I love haha) was gonna be in the movie. I sort of enjoyed the first three books, although sometimes it was a bit... too much. Like there were times when I was literally facepalming during certain parts. The fourth book though. It was terrible. It took me TWO MONTHS to get through it. And also, I hate Clary (honestly can't fucking stand her). So I have this love/hate relationship with the series but for me, the fourth book was absolutely unnecessary and I'm (probably) not gonna be finishing the series.

  • @vickypalami

    okay I know we all have our opinions but if you get to season 5 of Game Of Thrones and still don´t want to read the books then...I will be kind of disappointed because tbh the tv show started to suck since season 3, then season 4 was way worse, and then came season 5 aka a living hell for the book readers. It´s not even because "the show is not like the books so that´s why it sucks". The show sucks by its own lol. So many ooc moments, a lot of unneccesary violence towards women. And before people come at me with "the book shows violence towards women": DEPICTION DOES NOT EQUAL ENDORSEMENT. The show is trash as of right now. The first two seasons were almost perfect, then the third one had some good moments, and I know only-show watchers LOOOVED the fourth season, (if you had read the books then trust me you wouldn´t love the season so much), but I know that even only-show watchers hated this past season. So of course it´s your choice at the end of the day, and maybe reading the books doesn´t excite you a lot, but if you are a little bit interested in the story, then you should read them, at least before watching season 5 because if you watch it first you are going to hate Dorne (one of the best storylines from the books), you are going to watch a main character getting raped who didn´t get raped in the books (for the sake of shock value...D&D literally said that), you are going to miss some epic plot lines that happened in the books, you are going to feel kind of a void because of the mess that season 5 was. There´s no context, no themes, no organic plot twists, everything is made for shock value. George R.R. Martin and his books deserve better.

    • @hannahballoonn
      @hannahballoonn 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Vicky Reads Couldn't agree more! So many final moments fell flat and didn't make sense! Like Dany, in the tv show her flying off on the dragon makes 0 sense. And Jon's death in the show had no reasoning beside Ollie giving him looks all season. Even tyrion's storyline was shit and he seems to be everyones favourite! Im so sad they didn't put in Young griff because that was one of my favourite story lines. They turned arya into an annoying nosy kid instead of being actually dedicated to the house of black and white. Sansa's rape became more about Reek than her. Cersei especially completely lost everything that makes her crazy (like that scene in the books when she burnt down one of the towers in the Red Keep) and Jamie as well, the characters were just so watered down. Can't think of one single character who was written well.

    I absolutely agree with you about Sirius Black and Snape. I have had the exact same thoughts. I not only have a problem with how Sirius treats Harry but I am always really disturbed by how he treats Kreecher. Also, I feel like he has so many of the bad qualities that are often associated Gryffindors. (And I am a Gryffindor!)
    I also agree with you about Divergent. I couldn't even finish the first one. Your videos are awesome. My sister introduced your channel to me a few days ago and I can't stop watching your videos! :)

      +TheUltimateGC YA is more about interesting attention grabbing plots over the actual content and substance of a book. Don't get me wrong, I read an occasional YA book, but I mostly read adult fiction. I feel like YA is very flat in its content, which means they're not meant for critical thinking, which is fine, but it would be nicer to have more Adult fiction booktubers. Chapterstacks started reading more adult fiction so I know of at least one.

    God Snape, the fandom has tuned in to some saintlike marter even though it is very clear he is not, even as a kid. He openly mocked Petunia, hurled insults back at James, acted like a total dick to Lilly then got angry when she cut off their friendship, joined the deatheaters with no hesitation, only left them because they thretend to kill lily, only protected Harry in her honor, showed clear favortism while teaching, held onto a grudge for twenty years and bullied children to the point that was the thing one of them was most afraid of. Yes his loyalty and the power of his love and bravery are great thing but fangirls' hero-worship of him as this great tragic marter saint angel who can do no wrong isnt fair to the incredibly nuanced and complexharater Rowling wrote by tuning him into another dooged nice guy trope.

I really liked the books when they first came out, and I thought that they were really good and interesting, but i never really got attached to the characters, and while i liked the plot i felt that it could have been done better. i just dont love the writing style. but then the movies came out and it just filled in all the spots that the books were missing. I felt way more attached, and everything really came to life on screen. I definitely like the movies better than the books.
