Never in combat, but I think I have a glimpse into what he is saying. I never understood why people went hunting, until I was around 30. I worked at a retail store and with loss prevention we chased down someone who had stolen something and it happened. I had a strong instinctual reaction that I never experience, an absolute primal sensation. Still don't hunt but now I understand why people enjoy it.

    • @VanishedPNW
      @VanishedPNW ปีที่แล้ว +5

Honestly, I have mixed-but-mostly-negative feelings about retail thugs who believe they have the right to accost people over merchandise which is already covered by millions in insurance. I've seen a loss.prevention asshole get properly laid-out for just randomly picking a guy (my brother) who sort of matched the description of someone who was stealing athletic tape and hairspray.
A loss prevention guy wrongly accused my brother of taking items because my brother looked a *little bit* like some other guy who apparently was taking things, and he proceeded to grab my brother by the lapels and try to muscle him to a nearby wall, and my brother knocked him out. Not cold, but enough to where he was on ice skates and fell on his big ol butt. My brother got arrested for assault!! My brother is 5'6 145 pounds and this Securitas gumba was about 6'2 240. My brother was a multiple time all-state wrestler and an HS all-american, so he put hands on the wrong "little guy." Naturally, when it went to court, the charges were dropped because he did absolutely nothing wrong and never stole a thing. A lot of those loss-prevention clowns are corporate merchandise warriors who wish they had a legitimate patrolman's badge. Not saying you're one of them, but anyone who gets paid a pittance to put their hands on random people because of CD players and cold cereal deserves the same fate as big baldy, who sat there beat red for a half hour while the medics shined a little light in his face and the ACTUAL thief walked out the front door with a cart full of stolen goods.

This just makes me respect Afghans so much more hearing him talking about them being the toughest opponents and the only reason why he was confident was because of the overwhelming advantage in technology they had.
It's not the first time I hear a soldier say that. I heard another one claim the only reason why the war lasted as long as it did was because they had way better equipment than the Afghans but if they had the same stuff with their tenacity and fighting skills....it would've been over sooner

    • @danielleclair1360

The reason Afghan was tougher is because the Afghans hide in the foothills and mountains and use guerrilla warfare. Often times you cant even see the people shooting at you and you literally return fire in the area you think it is coming from and then suddenly it stops. Theyve left. Then you get blown up by an IED on the road.
If it was 1200 years ago and No Quarter. Domination. No "geneva convention" etc. Afghan would get crushed and subjegated.

@@danielleclair1360 you're dreaming lol. The reason they fight like lions is because they're a nation of warriors who are always fighting. They had experience with the Soviets. Not only that but they fight to defend their religion, their families and their future against an invader which automatically makes them more enthusiastic than low paid grunts from Kentucky and Alabama who don't even know where they are or what they're there for.
You're also dreaming about the Geneva convention being the only reason they weren't obliterated. Reminds me of a conversation I had with another veteran nobody was trying to impress anyone just talk about our experience.

Would that they'd bring some of those tribal drives back to civvy street. We mostly live in cities, on reservations, or as isolated individuals in the crowd. I live in a remote village. We all know each other and we all pull together in a crisis. This stuff's innate, and has to be repressed by those corporate vested interests who know they can only control the disposessed masses, and that self reliant communities could spell their doom.

..dude lost me after nirvana Soundgarden, i wish you could've gotten him to spend alittle more time on why he couldnt make it work with Chris in Soundgarden if he loved that group so much, ..chris also glossed over the subject when he was alive, saying only that he was given the sack because he wasn't a team player, kind of vague, consideing he obviously Was a team player or else he wouldve failed in the military too. I mean, ..the guy's introspective and emotive enough that you could've probably gotten him to open up on that subject more. On the military stuff, he was special ops so he's not really at liberty to divulge much info on that subject anyway. You might've asked if he still plays Bass.

Taliban are/were the normal civilian Afghans defensing their homeland and families from a coalition of the most powerful military power on earth. The Afghans have been defending their homeland from powers like the Sikhs from India, the British India Raj(3 Anglo-Afghan wars), the Soviets during the 80s and now the American Coalition for 20 years!!, The Afghans area Tribal people spread from Afghanistan and into half of Pakistan. The Pakistani section of the Tribes have always defended their brothers and cousins against a the aggressors, which is what the foreign invaders do not factor in when invading the country. The Americans paid the Pakistani military regime and the then the "civilian governments" millions of dollars in so-called "coalition support fund" to prevent the Afghan/Pathan/Pakhtun Tribes from crossing over the "border" into Afghanistan, but it turned into a disaster for Pakistan, loosing thousands of troops and civilians. Whoever read the history of Afghanistan always knew the Afghans/Taliban will ultimately win and be back in power. There are two very famous age old sayings in Afghanistan:
1:"You come into our country with YOUR choosing but you leave with OUR choosing!" and
2: "You have the WATCH, we have the TIME!"
It's a pity that millions of civilians have been killed to make owners of military industrial complex rich.

Anyone that judges this man's essential worth by how he interacted with the lead members of what was inarguably one of the most dysfunctional, and self-destructive, rock bands of all time, is an extremely shallow person.
The three surviving members of Nirvana have all admitted to ongoing mental health issues, most of which stem from the drug & alcohol abuse that they sustained while in the band.
I find this incessant need to idolize, and defend celebrities to be extremely puzzling. Perhaps, I'm just very pragmatic. But, I can admire, and appreciate the talent of any writer, singer, athlete, musician, actor, painter, sculptor, etc. without conflating that extraordinary gift from God with what is very often a narcissistic, egotistical, selfish, and sociopathic personality.
Kurt Cobain was a gifted writer, musician, and vocalist. He was a complete shit of a human being. Using Kurt Cobain as a benchmark with which to judge another human being is just *WRONG.*
