It's been over a year since your video and there is no sand hanitizer anywhere near me. Apparently, it got depleted by the mad rush your video caused. Thanks a lot!
Thanks! Very interesting and very well explained. By the way, paper towels are very absorbent, I think that if you divide it and use one ply over a funnel, will be much better.
Thank you for posting and thanks for the comment about road salt. It is saving me money. Now if we can find a use for the glycerine, that would be even more fun.
I don't know what the gunk is when your sanitizer burns down, but that isn't glycerin. Properly made Glycerin burns very well & cleanly, and is oil based, not water based, & burns without residue- especially if you add water to the mixture. The newest Diesel trucks & F1 cars use a mixture of it with their fuel & it's considered to be the perfect fuel for those engines, although it is preheated to around 200°F prior to being injected into the cylinders. It can also be burned as fuel just by itself. Formula-E (of the Afore-mentioned F1 Racing) partnered with Aquafuel to develop a glycerin only generator that they could tow when traveling from one venue to another & for off-road races they endorse. It's used in tons of other things too; a few chainsaws (mixed with the oil, just like you would usually do) as a lightweight grease in low power fan assemblies (only if they don't generate much heat). It is also about 49% of what's in "Vape fluid" with the remaining 49% being Polyethylene Glycol & the last 2% is Nicotine or other drugs & flavorings.
I have a bunch of sanitizer gel(70 percent) I simply use a small can/container and burn it as is...burns plenty hot enough and very little "gunk" left over...no need to separate it
@MidnightLight. the ingredients of the stuff I use are alchohol, glycerin, hydrogen peroxide and perfume...the residue is clear and actually smells good...wipes right up with a napkin
I love it, I'm glad I discovered you. I love your sense of humor too, and I never even caught that you said sand HannahTizer till you said that you did that. twice it got me. LOL.
Burning alcohol indoors is 100% safe. Just make sure that it's not an airtight space. In other words, anything that has a flame must have oxygen to burn and consumes oxygen
I've tried but it dont work. I add salt to the gel but i dont separate. I try to filter it but nothing. there is another method? I dont speak english so i can translate only if written. Thanks
Good video. However, if I'm using a plumbers stove (Open top container) I don't see the residue as a problem. You don't get a as effective flame with the plumbers stove.
Well what do you do if you only have sand hanitizer? Okay seriously is there something you can put in alcohol so that you can see the flame when it burns?
You can't drink the alcohol anyway, so you might switch from sea salt to road salt, water softener salt, pool salt, etc. At that price, maybe you can start selling it...
@@markylon Sorry, I get what you're saying here: That peoples should _eat_ the cheapest salt rather than sea salt, right? OK, well...I still disagree. First off, sea salt is not just sodium chloride. There are trace elements also, which vary depending on locality, season, etc.; I'd concede they don't matter in the diets of most nutritionally. Even so, sea salt where I am (Ottawa) is plenty cheap compared to the stuff mined from uraniumland with heavy machinery. There's also an issue of sustainability.
If you get the sanny for free-ish? Just the cost of a bag of road/pool/whatever salt. Oh, and the motor after you blow it from a wee bit of glycerine going in the mix one time...
@NeoGhk: Craigslist, Facebook, curb alert, dumpster dive... It's everywhere! These things have expiration date so they can't sell it if it's expired. Though I don't know how it can expire? Alcohol evaporates?
My 7 year old use to say "Sand Hanitizer" funny.... I still use Hand Sanitizer every day at work as we still have covid here in New Zealand and im lucky to not have caught it yet......Brett

I discovered this by accident about 25 years ago when I got bored at work. I'm glad you are able to take advantage of the free fuel!
Just the video I needed. Purchased 240 gallons at auction for 1 dollar. Now I know another good use for it. Thank You
solid, well-explained technique - thanks!
Actually, amazing. Don't know that I will ever have occasion to use this knowledge, but if nothing else, its an interesting experiment for the kids.

Right on. Might as well use the stuff, instead of landfilling (all the fuel burned to make) it!
Great video! Thanks.❤
You can burn the used paper towel as well. No waste at all.

Thanks for making this video. It's very helpful.
very useful little process thankyou for sharing.
I want to find one of those companies though 😁
Does the glycerine make the hand sanitizer's alcohol less prone to evaporation? If so would a large amount for this use be beneficial for storage?
I have a bunch of sanitizer gel(70 percent) I simply use a small can/container and burn it as is...burns plenty hot enough and very little "gunk" left over...no need to separate it
correct, but if you wanted the fuel specifically for an alcohol stove (as some of us would) then you will want the residue removed
@MidnightLight. the ingredients of the stuff I use are alchohol, glycerin, hydrogen peroxide and perfume...the residue is clear and actually smells good...wipes right up with a napkin
But I'd never use in a stove (like my Trangia)...denatured or something like Heet...but its perfect to refill my M71 Swiss can stove and the like

Add more salt i think 😅
Let sit overnight and the white cloudiness will fall to the bottom. Just pour off the clear the next day:)

@1acroyear1: You can put some Isopropyl alcohol in the mix. The flame will be yellow but you're gonna get soot on your pot.
Just turn the sun off bro
