    Now tell me how I climb that ladder most efficiently without spreading myself too thin. I can work around the clock, but I do believe in working smarter, not necessarily harder when guidance is provided. I am overwhelmed by the amount of tools and methodologies, not sure how to make sense of all that.

    Awesome video and love the content! I tell my veteran mentees that I coach something similar. I also tell them to look a little more broad because some companies use say Business Analyst and others will use Product Analyst or other types of Analyst. Also, you can use general skills like requirements gathering to find more roles in a company you want.
    Some people hang up on the titles but sometimes like where I am in larger company/government project you may only have a few Project Managers with more Analysts and Tech Leads. Pretty much an Analyst in my role can manage the day to day project activities with less responsibilities like budget but pay up to maybe 130k. Small companies you can be a director in a startup but be paid 100k.
    There are many factors to find what you want. You have to consider responsibilities, value you bring to the company, and stability for smaller companies to survive a market hit.

      With a PMP certification, can you get hired in business analyst jobs?

    • @xUSAFWolfman
      @xUSAFWolfman 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @Kat Ellis , yes or without it. The main point is being able to speak to the job requirements and preferred skills as much as you can. Having someone on the inside networking and getting you a referral is the best way to get in. On that note.. you can be a Project Manager without a PMP. It is just a barrier to entry and helps your chances by the manager knowing that you passed the PMP exam.
      Although, I know great PM's with a PMP and people that could never do the work but passed their PMP. I Could go on for the why but would take a while.. However, I love my PMP and just got it the other weekend after 15+ years managing projects without it. I regret not working to get it sooner and would be further in my career vs Masters. All of this is just from my experience.

      100% this. Edgar you are a rockstar! Love your note on the role name and how it can vary. If I were to add to that, I'd say that project management skills and the PM process translates over many, many different jobs as well, because projects make changes and change is never ending!

    • @xUSAFWolfman
      @xUSAFWolfman 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@davidmclachlanproject no problem at all on the comment and 100% these skills do take you to many roles and industries!
      David, I'm about to launch a LinkedIn post in the next few days on my retrospective experience. Do you mind if I give your channel a shout out as one of maybe 5 key resources I used in preparation for my PMP?
      On another note.. opportunities for PM's and Analysts are endless. Sometimes as a PM or analyst.. you can really shine by taking in more responsibility like change/release management for IT. Less overhead for the project as long as you don't over-do it and can perform. Growth really is up to you if you find the right organization, are motivated and add value.

    Thank you. In my case, I have 10 years of experience in projects. I got the PMP certification october 2021 but in my country (Peru) is very difficult to obtein a job. Is there in usa opportunities?

    • @davidmclachlanproject
      @davidmclachlanproject  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question! Also look into Edgar's comment thread on this video - PM skills will translate over many different jobs, they may not have the "name" of PM specifically. For opportunity, there is definitely a lot of PM job openings in the US, UK and Australia. Not sure on the specifics (i.e. how to tap into overseas roles if you aren't in that country) - agencies may help or companies with a global presence may also work. Hope this helps a bit! 🙂

    Hi David, thanks for this informative video... I am a PMP certified project manager with 5 years of experience managing agile/software projects.. How do I make the career transition into an agile coach? Any certifications that can come in handy?

    • @davidmclachlanproject
      @davidmclachlanproject  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Very good question 🙂 if you are a PM currently, one path is to become a scrum master or product owner first, while you get certifications like the PMI-ACP, or the PSM (Professional Scrum Master). Then, coaching takes some getting used to. Read "Coaching Agile Teams" by Lyssa Adkins. Then, it will help if you have an agile team assessment for your teams to see how they're going with stand-ups, small cross functional teams, sprint planning and retrospectives etc. Making one yourself once you're comfortable with the material will set you apart from the pack, and complete your training/transition. Good luck!

    What about project coordinator? If anyone is new into this. How can they scale up

    • @davidmclachlanproject
      @davidmclachlanproject  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Good question. Project coordinator can mean different things in different organisations. Some might focus on admin duties, governance and project communications. Others might lead smaller parts within the project. Either way, to scale up: study and gain either your CAPM, ACP, and/or PMP. This will assist your resumé. Then offer to lead as many of the main tasks as possible: coordinating and owning the schedule (Gantt chart), the stakeholder list and working group meetings, or the scope coordination and prioritisation. These will get you seen, and build the management skills you need.

    If you pass the PMP exam, do you still need to get an Agile Certification to be an Agile Coach?

    • @davidmclachlanproject
      @davidmclachlanproject  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      There are not a lot of "official" certifications for Agile coaching. I'd recommend the PMP plus PMI-ACP, and then a few other self learning resources: "Coaching Agile Teams" by Lyssa Adkins, the Scrum guide on Scrum.org, extreme programming explained by Kent Beck (those two plus Kanban make up the majority of Agile frameworks) anything on Lean or the Toyota Way, and then the latest SAFe book (NOT because it's good, but because many executives turn to SAFe as their scaling framework) Hope this helps a bit 🙂

    Hi, David. I am a project management special degree undergraduate in Sri Lanka. Do you think i will be able to get a job in australia. Because i do not want to do masters soon. 2024 is my graduating year, so, i am planning to go to Australia in 2025.😊

    • @davidmclachlanproject
      @davidmclachlanproject  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      For project management, the degree will help, but a diploma or even the PMP certification would help (if not a degree). They will look for project experience above those, so do your best to have worked on a few projects as well, in any capacity. You can do it!

    Can obtaining a PMP Professional Certificate through Coursera guarantee or increase chances of getting a well paying project management position?

    • @davidmclachlanproject
      @davidmclachlanproject  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In my experience, no. Some find that an actual diploma or degree may increase one's chances slightly, but not enough for me. Unless you find coursera easier, I would go straight for the PMP or CAPM from PMI, and then add the ACP for extra Agile.
