Wait until you hear the Nest ost from this game. I think you will like it a lot. I was heavily looking forward to your review on the Democrawler theme, though. Great video, as always, man.
I think the reason why they went with more opera is for a few reasons. One, this boss is a collection of many people who died in the war of the Orbit Elevator so these are a group of people who were just about to reach their safe paradise but got killed. As such it's more organic feeling than the rest of the monsters and by in-game lore is the embodiment of resentment and rage. There is also an opera house in the remnants of the civilization on Earth so I think opera is somehow part of the culture of the people and the location this boss in might suggest these were the remnants of the upper class of society. Design-wise its almost lovecraft-ian in how horrific and large the monster is so the levels of disturbing nature makes sense. Hope that helps!
@user-zc3sg4hf1kStellar Blade pays homage to a lot of games like Devil May Cry, Sekiro, Nier, Bayonetta, Dark Souls, also some connections to movies like Edge of Tomorrow, Matrix and Star Troopers. Yet the game feels so unique in it's own way. Overall awesome game it is
We know Mother Sphere’s goal with Andro-Eidos was the “Human Instrumentality Plan” (yes they just stole that from Evangelion) with all their memories coming together when they then die. I wonder if this grotesque horrifying boss then is also a representation of how human’s viewed it. As gross and unnatural. Shape of a sphere (mother sphere) and as close to the colony you can get. They also were plugged into the space elevator at the beginning for some reason.
Very much so on the culture part. If you do the questline that takes you to the opera house there’s several readings and descriptions about how certain performers and creations there like the Karakuri actors were all planned to entertain the VIPs on the orbital elevator during their ascent… and of course we see how that all turned out as we travel up. Like as not Enya would have ended up there too if circumstances didn’t stop her.
This boss is an amalgamation of humans who are filled with bitterness and resentment. The main character becomes keenly aware of this pain and fights the boss to free it from that agony. That's why the soundtrack here is so fitting. It sounds like a lament or a dirge in the beginning, and towards the end, it takes a heroic turn in the tone as the fight comes to its close.
Lyrics : Void ov aen'dies eordt Deordt oer'ta Blinded by light, far beyond the skyline In a dance of death, the phantoms entwine Invisible chains of despair and pain constrict the world's very heart Clouded by murmurs of grief, drowned in a thousand laments The azure of mind is torn and sublimed by torments In this nightmarish rain, the silence roars We are trapped in the choir of chaos, yet redemption calls from the depths of a miracle Ei'qo! Nor'qo! The reason why the music for this boss is so high scale is because it's not the actual boss you are fighting, once you defeat it you find out it's only part of the actual boss which has taken over the entire space station and it's basically a gigantic seraphim.
One of my favorite things about Davi Vasc is he talks about the theory of music. It sets him apart from other music reactors. Talking about things such as interesting time signatures, or which happy, sad, or tense chords are used, is really interesting, as least, to me. Do more of it! I love it!
Everyone, TURN DOWN EFFECTS VOLUME in the game or you won’t be able to hear the music as well. I didn’t change volume settings when I played and did not get this experience. Now I’m playin thru again with only the music on.
Here is the lore regarding this boss for those interested. I've beaten this game 4 times, btw. The game is phenomenal. Democrawler Many died in isolation throughout the facility during the battle for the Orbit Elevator. In the center of the devastation at the Central Core, people lost their lives while staring longingly out at their beautiful Colony hometown, It's no surprise that, when Naytibas infected their corpses, a horrific embodiment of resentment and rage was born.
Amazing video as always! This music gave me the grand beauty of Soulsborne music and the melodic and heroic vibe of JRPG music. The atmosphere of the opera can be dramatic and grandiose, but at the same time it gives you the overdone and comical feelings. But in this music, it feels like those feelings are perfectly balanced to create madness and drama. I haven't played the game yet, so I don't know the context of this fight, but I was blown away!
It's a little strange though as far as a monaca assisted soundtrack us concerned. It seems monaca is only really used for chill, laid back, world themes and camp music. Very little action music from them. This is just extra jarring because the intro to the game is clearly monaca styled epic NieR inspired music, and we just never get to hear anything like that in the game again, and it makes the game feel tonaly disjointed from the intro based on its music and scale of the scene. The ost is amazing for sure, but I was expecting and hoping for more boss themes inspired by the dramatic epic Orchestra of the NieR series. Slightly disappointing for me since I prefer classical/orchestral over rock or metal and stellar blade clearly leans into the latter. Oh well can't complain really, it's different from what I usually like but that helps expand my horizon a little bit. Plus I already have my epic orchestral Sci fi music in NieR:Automata. So some action packed Sci fi rock/metal is welcomed.
Thanks for another great analysis, Davi. I have not played the game, but what I've seen of the boss in your video reminds me of what the Reapers in Mass Effect did to other sentient creatures - transforming something organic to a horrific amalgamation of their former selves. The soundtrack's continuous plunge from classical opera to an electronic version of itself, to me, signified that.
The game does a neat thing with its OST where the instrumentals do the storytelling for you. You don't really get to appreciate it without already knowing the full story, so SPOILERS: As you progress throughout the game, you come to discover that the wars of the past can be summarized into cybernetic androids vs organic humans, and the game starts in a time where androids have had their memories rewritten to believe they are the humans, while the organic humans have all undergone genetic mutations to survive extinction in the war against androids, becoming the Naytiba. Musically, enemies Eve perceives as good guys = orchestral instrumentals, while the bad guys are given the more metal/synthesized parts. Almost all the boss tracks will have some mixing of both, since they're all some form of fusion or parasitization of one to the other. Abaddon being one of the first bosses falls in line with her worldview, being mostly metal/electronic- incoherent and chaotic. The second Alpha's track is melodic and uniform in comparison based on their past relationship, and this is when Eve's perception of the world starts to get challenged. As the game progresses and Eve discovers the origins of organic humans and cybernetic androids, the lines between good and bad begin to blur as she begins to redefine humanity for herself. The Democrawler is one of the last bosses Eve faces during her disillusionment near the end of the game, and she comes to empathize with the flesh and metal housing the consciousness of countless humans and androids. The beginning of the track addresses the tragedy and humanity in their situation, and then picks up with the metal/electronic as Eve gets closer to putting the thing out of its misery, sort of echoing the android's triumph over humanity in the past. The rest of the boss tracks become more streamlined in their operatic/orchestral = organics and vocaloid/synthesized = android dichotomy as Eve's worldview develops further.
Somehow this boss reminds me of ludwig, the holy blade from bloodborne. If i'm not wrong the director of the game said he was inspired by several games like nier automata, bloodborne and sekiro. The sword glows with the same colour as ludwig's holy sword
Man this game has a lot of good music. The final boss theme, Belial, and flooded commercial sector, the wasteland, and Xion are all amazing. i hope you react to one of them

This is the first exposure I've really had to this game and tbh the soundtrack alone is enough to get me looking into it. I wish I could've made out the lyrics a bit better, I feel like those are pretty important in songs like this. Definitely in English, though. Any chance we could get a video on the Hades II soundtrack, now that it's in Early Access? Coral Crown and Song of the Sirens are both phenomenal.
I was like "this sounds like Soken had a son hwo's a composer as well" and then you said in the same part but the second time it plays "doesn't it sound a bit like a Soken FF soundtrack?" 😂
Davi, would you consider covering some music from Banjo Kazooie/Tooie? Mr. Patch, Freezeezy Peak, Klungo, Click Clock Woods, Cloud Cuckooland. Thanks for what you do.

Stellar Blade doesn't have just some good music here & there, the whole album you can find it on YT already it's one of the best, dare I say the best in many years for a video game in terms of being alive & every music being so iconic; recognizable since Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. You can revive your memory of playing Stellar Blade, its magnificent places & specific moments just from the Soundtrack very clear because it's just that good, this game deserves an award at very least for that.
Providence as a boss is kinda lame, which is probably the reason people don't like the ost for it so much. It's cool looking, it's name is badass, but it's moveset is super repetitive where it just constantly just tries to 2 piece you with its fists. It's very basic and moderately paced compared to raven, a much more badass, intense, fast paced and high skill. Basically parry your ass off or you die.

Hi, I recently watched all your Undertale music videos, and I don't know if you'll see this comment But will you ever listen to Undertale Yellow soundtrack? It's very close to quality of original Undertale soundtrack. Ost from Undertale Yellow that I specifically want to recommend is called "Mother's Love"(would be cool if you listened to it with a scream sound effect it has in the game, gives you chills!)

It took you a long time analyzing the first half of the song that you only saved the best part of the music for the last third of your video. I kept waiting for the beat to drop but you kept rewinding before the best part. 😅
