Hi Davi! The wind instrument you mentioned is called “Suona”! That instrument has a very unique sound and always stands out among other instrument. Chinese people always joke about it just like “a rogue among instruments”. Also it's super common in some traditional chinese ceremories like funeral and wedding. so people also says “suona” is the one you hear from brith to death! 😂
The Western instrument of suona corresponds to Scottish bagpipes, which have the same meaning (from birth to death). For Chinese people, the sound of suona is very loud and abrupt, with a prominent and sharp tone that is not suitable for integration into orchestra performance. However, it can express the personality and uniqueness of the protagonist in the game. Similar uses include the Black Myth of Wukong (Wukong's spirit of rebellion) and the Legend of Mortal (to highlight the protagonist's ugliness).
The list of Chinese instruments I think that have appeared in the music: - I heard Sth like “Xun” or “Xiao”(wind instruments) - they might have used “Sheng” (wind instruments) - “Di Zi” (flute) - “Suo Na” (wind instruments you just mentioned) - “Pi Pa” (string instrument) - I don’t know wether they had used “San Xuan” or “Gu Zheng” in this music bc it is also another string instrument that sounds like “Pi Pa” for me
I'm always amazed how much you can learn by just listening to the music, as well as how much the composer can portrait thru their music. Really master of your craft!
Amazing video as always! This theme is truly epic and foreshadows a great adventure and fun ahead. I love the sound of traditional instruments. It really tugs at the heartstrings.
I believe 8:00 part is where sun wukong threatened the whole heaven and jade emperor and waged war against them 10:13 would be where buddha sealed sun wukong for 500years and timelapse begin.. 10:36 is I guess when the monk Tang sangzang begin his journey and 10:45 he freed wukong by breaking Buddha's seal talisman. 10:50 where they begin their journey to the west
Suona evolved from Zurna which came from Persian traders during Tang dynasty era, it has a high pitched piercing sound, frequently used for traditional folk music and lead instrument for weddings (ensemble) and funerals (solo).
Guanyin (the Bodhisattva of Mercy) is a major character in the novel and is partially responsible for the headband that disciplines Sun Wukong and is often portrayed as a female or androgynous. The female voice is likely a reference to the female voice in the 1986 theme and also to Guanyin's major inclusion in the story.
The Chinese wind instrument is the _Suona_ (唢呐). It's arguably China's loudest musical instrument, able to be heard from miles away, to signal the arrival of wedding marches or of funeral processions. It has a reputation of being a rogue among instruments, being able to compete with an entire orchestra (like the Monkey King versus the entire Celestial Army). It's featured prominently in the song _Dagger Society Suite (小刀会序曲) popularized by Stephen Chow as Sun Wukong's theme song in various movies. _Dagger Group Suite_ (小刀会组曲) th-cam.com/video/Z41dLqfV5wo/w-d-xo.html
Thank you so so much, now I eventually understand more about why I was moved that much, not only by the scene… the music was even much more than what I saw by eyes
Great reaction! You should also react to the “Where is the road” track also from the ost of this game. It hold the same significance as the “Celestial symphony”.
Now I want to play this game even more! I always love your videos. I wonder if you'll be willing to check out another game sountrack with strong cultural ties to my own country. Enotria the last song has amazing music inspired by traditional italian music, I'm playing it right now, it's amazing 🤩
Here’s some prospective. I was born in 1987 in liaoning, China. The tv show JTTW came out one year before I was born. My entire childhood before I left to the US was watching this show, why? Well China had very few channels at the time, like 5 channels. There was not much on tv and this show for its time was so much ahead of the other entertainment China had to offer.
Yeah, pretty adventurous. I didn't know there is a string instrument called "pipa", sound delicious, jeje. Today I want to recommend La Mulana's OST (it's a metroidvania with exploration focused on puzzles, I really like it but it's very difficult), I love the felling that the tracks give to the areas, really cool. I'm really enjoying the soundtrack, I suggest Inferno, Grand History or Curse of Ocean for example. That's it. ¡Adiós!
The Handsome Sun Wukong, The Great Sage Heaven's Equal, The Victorious Fighting Buddha. Edit: with your limited description of Sun Wukong, you're pretty spot on, he is indeed impulsive, mischievous, trickster, arrogant, big mouth talker (which in the end he totally delivers it) and a bit of indirect womanizer.
I have never seen him get flirty with any woman in the show. You lost me at the end. One of the charm of Wukong is that he is out of Trayo Shātava (that means the three realms of the unceasing cycle of death and rebirth: the Realm of Desire, Realm of Form, and Realm of Formlessness). He doesn't think about women, men or sex. why would he be a womanizer? doesn't make any sense to me.
The instrument is a "suona," which originated as "sorna" in Persia. Because it overwhelms other instruments, it is often used to represent deity or divine intervention in ensables. Thank you for illustrating how the chords built up the emotion! I learned to play the keyboard, but I wasn't introduced to the magic behind it.
The instrument you were asking about is called suona (唢呐), and the closest analogy to it is probably a trumpet but with notoriously loud volume and high pitch. I think it also appeared in the Shara Ishvalda theme from one of your MHW music videos. The instrument is somewhat tied to Buddhism music at least in China, so I could see why different composers used it in MHW monster theme and Black Myth Wukong.
Xiyouji (journey to the West) is an amazing series that inspired people to create such amazing works. Like dragon ball. His Chinese name is son wukong. His Japanese name is son goku
The suona is sometimes compared to the bagpipes in some western cultures, but I would also say the electric guitar can be used to achieve the piercing effect, or in Bruckner's time, the brass section
I would highly encourage giving a listen to Detached from Rise and Fall/ Erlang Shen the Sacred Divinity’s rematch theme it is truly one of the most incredible tracks I’ve heard from the game.
hey davi, loved this video! I would love if you checked another song from this game, my personal favorite. It's called: "If good and evil gain no due", it's really short but I think it's so wonderful, I hope you enjoy it
I would love for you to check to the Grim and it's dlc ost by Alex Roe And it's ambient track from Sean Secca Grime is a beautiful and weird, abstract fleshy game with a crazy world and it's a soulsborne metroidvania style game
In the book, Wukong is mischievous and brash enough to ruin Heaven's shit multiple times, while also being a very very high ranking deity. So you hit the nail on the head.
Speaking of Suona, here's one of my favorite Chinese TV series BGM that used Suona as well: th-cam.com/video/tjdKkdkqnik/w-d-xo.html, this BGM was made for a 1998 TV series which was based on another famous ancient Chinese novel "水浒传"(Water Margin), if you like Suona, you'll probably like this one as well!
Recommended if you ever revisit hollow knight ost... : dung defender. Especially if you react to fanmade lyrics, because MOTI made the song so much better with just his voice, it adds power the main song doesn't have.
This music is good, but not on the level on JTTW 86 opening theme, appearing in the game too. I understand professional componer, music hit diferent dépend on people and chilhood. You should try celestial symphonie the true one
Music is an eternal bond between people. Neither distance nor time can stand in your way. Its creative power gives birth to friendships and loves... A bond that makes the world more beautiful with its own beauty. A world language that is understandable to everyone, it does not need to be translated.❤🤍💚

唢呐一响,诸神回避。不是升天,就是拜堂。
Yep. And commonly regarded as the 'rougue instrument' that instantly overpass all others.
Like a saxphone

chinese use suona for festive celebration n also funeral .
千年琵笆万年筝,一把二胡拉一生,唢呐一响全剧终,初闻不识唢呐音,再听已是棺中人,黄泉路上人消沉,望乡台上忆前尘,孟婆一汤忘今生,奈何桥上渡残魂。
Black Myth Wukong was so well made. Not only the game itself was so fanatic, but the studio also put in so much effort in the music of the game!
its an ART
The list of Chinese instruments I think that have appeared in the music:
- I heard Sth like “Xun” or “Xiao”(wind instruments)

结尾处众多的声音仍然不能压制唢呐,唢呐代表悟空不屈的斗争精神。
令人感动的音乐。
Thanks!

Love how you explain this music. Beautiful music.
As soon as the sound of suona appeared, I knew something big was happening.

Of course Wu Kong is that suona in the orchestra, he makes the story after all.
great analysis, shines a light on why it's enjoyable
Thank you so so much, now I eventually understand more about why I was moved that much, not only by the scene… the music was even much more than what I saw by eyes
I forgot I was in 2x mode for the whole video. Still sounded pretty good.
🤣 my mans speed running his entertainment
The wind instrument is called suona. Super loud which I hated as a child. Sounds epic here.
HAHAHAA especially if the person's not skilled it sounds friggin annoying XDDD
Great reaction! You should also react to the “Where is the road” track also from the ost of this game. It hold the same significance as the “Celestial symphony”.

Fuck bro! This really impressed me with how Luffy's songs sound!!! God, how glorious!
first time listen this version,ty。❤
female voice symbol the 天庭 and the gods。it used the same way from 云宫迅音。
Exactly what i thought. It’s done this way intentionally to “pair with” or reflect the same design in celestial symphony.

Same here, except It was in Cambodia in late 90s. The first cartoon i ever watched.
I love this theme! Very unique. And thank you for your professional explanation!

桀骜不驯
Truly we have got the most handsome gaming protagonist of all time which is not a human🗿
I think so too. I thought I was sick to think a monkey sexy

6:42 "The female voice man" - Davi

has a strange jazzy saxophone sound
Only very few instruments can suppress the Sou Na sound, such as Pipe Organ, or some very big Gong...
Xiyouji (journey to the West) is an amazing series that inspired people to create such amazing works. Like dragon ball. His Chinese name is son wukong. His Japanese name is son goku
13:32 The instrument is called a suona or 唢呐 in Chinese.
The horn melody was unexpected, but so good!
The chords that ramp the drama is is meant to sound like a monkey screaming.
Great sharing and thanks! 👏👏👏

The wind Chinese instrument is shuo na. String is yang chin
Feels like something out of a classic gundam series
I hear typical soundtrack for Caesar III game. You cannot change my mind
I would highly encourage giving a listen to Detached from Rise and Fall/ Erlang Shen the Sacred Divinity’s rematch theme it is truly one of the most incredible tracks I’ve heard from the game.

the one you forgot called Suo Na, beautiful is it?!!
12:31 Your are right, sir. It's called Pi Pa in Chinese.
Hi! Have you heard Noosphere from Warhammer Mechanicus? In case you didn't I recommend you check out, it's a great theme
In the book, Wukong is mischievous and brash enough to ruin Heaven's shit multiple times, while also being a very very high ranking deity. So you hit the nail on the head.

The female cords , from a 80s perspective, it reflect the celestial world.
I’m not sure if the game can win GOTY or not, but their OSTs are OSTs of the year for sure.
10:33 正片开始
Suona, the King of Chinese instruments.
Recommended if you ever revisit hollow knight ost... : dung defender. Especially if you react to fanmade lyrics, because MOTI made the song so much better with just his voice, it adds power the main song doesn't have.
What was the song that was being played before the main menu
你听百鸟朝会浑身鸡皮疙瘩
The most amazing part is the music is composed by the game creator himself, not by professional musicians.
the female voice is an element sort of inheritance from the old themes.
0.8 what’s the song before the main menu
那个乐器的名字叫“唢呐”
杨戬,二郎神我不是坏人,信阳不同

Heyo Daviii❤
Can u plz react to CODE VEIN osts plzz
I recommend Relic Sovereign
CV has a very decent soundtrack
And I find the style very Dark Souls
This music is good, but not on the level on JTTW 86 opening theme, appearing in the game too.
I understand professional componer, music hit diferent dépend on people and chilhood.
You should try celestial symphonie the true one
The Chinese wind instrument is called “Suo Na”, 唢呐。

A group of enthusiasts from China played this song, and the accuracy was very high. I hope it helps you.
SuoNa
It is from the previous tv show main theme.
it's not.
You're thinking of another theme, the Celestial Symphony, not this one.
One Piece ahh kind of song
The main thene was composed for 1986 .. and you think this is new ??? Cmon guys you don't have a clue
That leitmotif from the show was in the "Celestial Symphony" theme though, not this one.
Zelensky is a musician?😅😅😅😅
