      that's what most auto body shops will do when removing decals, all about the angle and letting your lacquer thinner do the work or you!

      As long as it's not baked on / dried out, it is pretty easy like you say. When it's crusty, this is the only solution - aside from sanding.

    Scraping your car with a razor blade perpendicular to the car's surface, huh? Well, I wish I had the success others had. Instead, about 10 inches of my 2016 Ford Explorer's paint job is now up. Now I need to find a TH-cam video that shows me how to buff out paint scrapes. Is this an April Fool's video to prank your friends? I fell for it. Wish I had the mad skillz you guys do but for now I'll just cry in my beer. Thank you, Lakeside Autobody!

    • @LakesideAutobody
      @LakesideAutobody  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry about that - really.... If you try it again, start out with very light pressure then gradually add pressure until it starts to remove the old material. If the decals are still in good shape just use a heat gun and peel the sticker or stripes off. Jerry

      this was the first thought I had but I haven't seen anyone try it yet - I've got a panel on my old gen 1 montero that needs repainting anyway I might go ahead and try this method on it and if it works, I'll do it for the rest of the car. If not, I'll probably apply a little bit heat and then cut a razor blade to be the width of the strip down at the blade and normal width at my fingers and try that - so I minimize the plane-ing on the paint surface and maximize it on the pinstripe

      In an actual body shop, It's most commonly taken off using heat but when the stripes are baked on heat doesn't work. You have two choices - sand it off or do this. I don't like to sand it off cause it creates more work. This method shaves it right off flat. Your going to paint anyway. But! if you do it real careful you could wheel this out and save the paint.

      I don't get it. Are you trying to say, "How to scratch your paint." ? If so, that's not true. If you do it correctly, you'll be able to lightly wet sand the area and buff and will see no damage. Most of the time though you are removing decals to paint so it doesn't matter if you scratch it a bit. It's going to be DA sanded and painted anyway.

      If the stripes are new, they can easily be removed with a heat gun. If they are old and dry you can either sand them off or do this. You could try the stripe eraser tool but again when it's baked on it's tough to remove :)

      This is an old trick that most body men and painters use - in almost every body shop. You're not cutting the paint - you are planing it down. It's done in wood model making and all sorts of trades that shape material. One day in the future you're going to "have to" do it and it will work perfect and you'll say, "Ahh... that's what he was talking about!" ✌
