The Bicycle is the most efficient vehicle ever made and it doesnt use fuel and is power by the riders legs . I commute by Bicycle every day and night and I love it . cycling is the best way to get around .

I love bikes but I think the roads are just too dangerous for a bike. We need to start thinking about building roads just for cycling on.

I live in the Netherlands and I can assure you, bikes are great for moving in some small towns and have several advantages such as cheap, no environmental and noise pollution, but they are very annoying for cars and pedestrians. Especially here in the Netherlands, bikers just run over you, they don't care about others (I also bike but asap I'll get my car). It's a bit like scooters in Italy, so annoying.

very well put mitoand9 ...anything eventually finds a segment of the population that finds it annoying. I'm sure there are some mickey mouse haters out there. :) I always tell people, the issues are due to humans, not the mode of transport. if aliens created the perfect transport, we'd still have people complain about it.

Bike do use fuel, fuel that powers us the engine of the bike. Without our engine powering the bike it's just a rather large paperweight...

I bought an Electra Townie electric assist bicycle in March 2022 as an alternative means of transportation. I don't always use the electric assist function, but I am glad it is there when I want it. My alternate is now my main. I only drive my truck if my wife and I have to go somewhere together or if the weather is not favorable. I also lost 36 pounds in four months.

Great documentary! I loved my full suspension mtn bike in 1998 , when I turned 16 I didn’t ride it much again.
20 years later I got back into biking by rebuilding that same bike and making it electric! Now I work full time as an ebike technician and I want to make my own bike brand .

super video. I was an avid cyclist in the UK and rode sit up and beg bikes from 1976-79 when my dad bought my younger brother a 'mountain bike' in 1980 - I remember it snowed that christmas in England - rare - but I rode his new bike that day and was amazed at how it rode in the snow. I bought a 500 GBP bike a few years later from Freewheel in London, and rode a cyclocross race with it. Although I finished dead last, it weighed I think 30-40 lbs - it was brill and I knew this was a match to light the explosion - I've rode a few fishers - they are very comfy

i'm what they call an expert level XC rider and amature downhiller. That makes me a pro all-mountain mountain biker, we typically race from point to point on rugged and steep terrain for 10 to 20 miles, dual events on the same bike are also fairly common. We do a 20 mile XC race on saturday and then the main event, the timed downhill event on sunday, you have to use the same bike and the same wheels. That's why long travel bikes with triple rings are still popular, i dont know if they make them in 26" anymore or not

Regarding the 'shared-use' of trails that Fisher talks about @ 24:00 ish ... this is coming from someone who used to ride offroad motorcycles & was involved with the land-use issues of a local National Forest in the US:
Assuming 'management' of multiple users of trails is a pipe dream. Human nature is that 'I've got mine, screw yours' ... one group doesn't like sharing with other groups. This can be OHV, bicycles, hikers, whatever. The Environmentalists (Sierra Club etc., there are a kajillion enviro groups) dislike all users except for themselves. Enviro's have a clever tactic that they use to kick everyone else off of the land: the Law, and Divide & Conquer.
I've seen the OHV group splinter into the dirtbikers that dislike the quads, the quads (ATVs) dislike the UTVs, the UTVs dislike the Jeeps. I've witnessed mountain bike clubs activity campaigning to kick off the offroad motorcyclists from 'there' trails. And on down the line to the hikers duped by the likes of the S.C. And for 'management'? Ban them all, and the problem goes away. Path of least resistance. And the Law is on there side to do it. The enviro's dance with glee.
With nothing being done about the human population explosion, access, pressure & use of existing trails will only get worse. Already offroaders are forced to be criminals in order to use trials that they once had access too. This is trickling down to bicycles and yes to even hikers themselves.
Think about that next time you want to kick someone else off of 'your' trail just because they use a different form of transport for personal recreation.
    Nevermind, it's too late.

All cycling is dangerous in the UK, not just when there were ordinaries about. Whilst cycling / training i have broken several ribs, two collar bones, an elbow and my hip. With 'safety' designs came faster speeds and a vast increase in kenetic energy, which is more dangerous when abruptly brought to a halt by another object.

As a long time bicycle fan, i must disagree with the way this video portrays bicycles.
meaning: it's a shame they're celebrating the bicycle by mentioning only it's most flashy atributes of latest high tech in mountain bikes and racing bikes (no, a cursory historic overview is not enough!).
but, by question is: where is the bicycles as personal transportation for people and goods, as a military machine of huge historical importance, as source of emancipation for women, and as a means that gave personal mobility to low classes??
none of this is mentioned at all!
and i believe these roles really define the value of bicycle for mankind, not some racey-fancy machines (no matter how expensive and specially built).
the video makers clearly oversaw the basic, non-flashy, daily indespensable roles of the machine for the more flashy but ultimately useless ones.
and as such this video doesn't honor the bicycle in a way it should bev honored in light of it's contribution to mankind.
it's like celebrating a horse as a domestic animal just by looking at parade and race horses...

    • @KRAZEEIZATION

Jack Spraker The problem is marketing. It's like all the cunts that drive 4X4s and never leave the city. They are told a jeep is safe. You're up high, you can see. But people still drive on the phone and can't park the bulky heaps of shit properly. When I drive a Land Rover all I do is bob up and down uncomfortably in the driving seat thinking, "imagine getting into debt for this hunk of shit when a car is much better. When mountain bikes took off, the people into them bought the high end light ones but the industry churned out big fat heavy metal monsters with knobbly tires for the masses to ride on the roads. You see men and women's legs spinning like mad in the granny gear going up a small incline. So after the 80s, racers declined as people heard "they're bad for your back" and nasty MTB that were so heavy they would sink in the mud if you went off road". There must be more abandoned MTBs around every home than any other bike. If the average Joe bought a bike in the last 25 years it was a MTB, but there are no mountains in the city! Funny enough Land Rover had a brand of MTB a few years back. If you had a Land Rover you could by a bike to hang on the back of it! Saying all this I have half a dozen road bikes but I was curious enough to by a Raleigh M-Trax 600 MTB and you know what, I have to say it, it's amazing, it's light and I love it and I can train in all weather in all terrain on days off from the road!

Sweetie. I lost a perfect friend. I bought a little mountain bike in 96 before it took off as a thing. Solid little frame. Small for me but basic. Steel fork and no heavy suspension bs. I never understood the appeal of the Mountain Bike? What grown adult wants to ride through mud and get dirty?

JENDALL714 I see from your pic that you "hit the iron". Why do you do that? Is it not a silly thing, wasting so much time, effort and money on something that potentially will get you no where? Or is it because you enjoy it, and get fulfilment out of expressing yourself and pushing yourself to your limits? I would assume so. The same would apply to basically every person doing any sport anywhere. No every physical activity can appeal to every person. Hell, some people think that anyone doing a recreational activity is stark-raving mad. But we are not. Like you, we just enjoy spending some of our free time doing something that we enjoy.

Interesting film but this political corectness bullshit is sometimes annoing. Bicycle isn't always more ecological than a car or more practical. Imagine yourself biking in a rain or snow.

There is literally no situation where a bicycle is less ecological than a car. GTFOH with that bullshit.
