Dane, my greatest hurdle while learning to drive was getting this maneouvre right. I just couldn’t do it smoothly but after watching this vid ONCE, I put it to use and viola! I could get most corners on the first try, even a really tricky one my husband made me try and do!!! It took me a few tries with that one but your videos def boosted my confidence and proud to say that I passed my test yesterday! I’ve been sharing all my fave vids of yours to my friends that are waiting to sit the driving test! Well done, Dane! 🫡
Hi Dane , your videos are very helpful. Please make some videos for automatic car. Specifically the corner reverse(including uphill&downhill), turnabout’s and parking.
This is such a great video Dane. Makes Reverse round the corner so much simpler. I passed my test in the first attempt with an almost perfect reversing by following your guidance. Keep doing the best work 😊
Passed my test today, been watching your videos non stop for the last week in preparation! Absolutely delighted, thanks so much for putting the time into making these 😁👍
Thanks Dane for your videos, they gave me confidence and knowledge to pass. I did really well but almost failed due to driving on the right-hand-side of the dual carriageway. I was going too slow (65 km) on an 80km road. I knew I had to drive 80 but panicked seeing pedestrian, traffick light and speed bump signs. He told me I saved myself last minute by going left on the dual carriageway!
Hello Dane!! Just wanted to sincerely thank you for all of your amazing content. I passed my test first time in togher cork 2 weeks ago. I watched so many of your videos over the past 2 years. Thank you so, so much Dane for creating these videos which are so clear and well demonstrated. This video made reversing round the corner finally click for me. Passed my driving test last week on my first time around and I'm tellin ya your videos are what got me there! Keep up the amazing work! Will definitely make a donation and will continue to recommend and spread the word of Dane!
Hi Dane, just wanted to say a big thank you for all your videos there super helpful and helped me pass my driving test today in Wexford 💜 would highly recommend your videos to everyone with a test coming up!
Funny enough, I’ve only recently realized that this method and the one I’ve been using are 2 different methods. In your way, you dont seem to adjust the side mirror straight down. What I was doing was adjusting the mirror down & as you say waiting until the curb disappeared before turning the wheel which always caused me to turn too late & wide. (Still not too sure how 🤷♂️) Seems like I was getting your method mixed up with the mirror-down one 😅 The last day, my instructor told me to just reverse while he steered to show me & I noticed that the bottom of the curb stayed in the exact same position in the mirror (faced down) all throughout the turn and it worked like a charm. I didn’t get a proper chance to retry it just yet but excited to do so. Or maybe I’ll see about sticking with your method keeping the mirror as it is, not too sure lol. But yeah, my mind was blown 😅😅
My instructor has also advised that before you turn to look in both blind spots and all three mirrors. Start in the direction opposite to where you are driving off from and end where you are driving towards
In Zambia, theres a cone test for this and it's so tricky to figure out. My problem is I mistakenly think I'm all clear in the mirror on the side with the corner and then I look in the other mirror and hit the corner
Hi Dane, When starting the reverse we do a 360 observation, if cars are approaching from the front do we wait for them to pass before starting the reverse or is it only traffic from behind we wait for to pass. While reversing would be have to stop for traffic approaching from front or only for traffic approaching from behind
Hi Dane, do we need to stop if we see that there is a pedestrian crossing behind my car about 10m (about 16 feet) away once the wheel is straightened ?
Hi Dane, I’ve my test next week and just cannot confidently reverse around a corner. Like I feel when I come to the corner, I end up coming out too wide. Any tips? Thanks so much
had the same problem, try to just turn sooner, do not let the curb disappear, just start turning sooner as soon as you see the curb curving where your back tyre would be, and follow the curve, straighten the steering wheel at the bend if required. this approach may work better for some people.
Hi Dane, I wanted to ask you if you can do a video on how to become a driving instructor in Ireland as I was searching and couldn’t find any useful information. I will also appreciate if you could give me the name of the book to study for theory test of becoming a driving instructor.
I'm not sure there'd be much demand for that but I won't completely rule it out for a future video. Study the rules of the road and the official driver theory test book and app. Check out the Driving Instructors handbook.
Hi Dane. Love your videos. When reversing with cars coming and going past you, do you need to start again from start point or just stop and continue from where you are at? Thanks
Thanks- Should you only stop and yield to approaching pedestrians cyclists or drivers if you are blocking their way? Or should you stop regardless of their position/direction ? My instructor told me to stop for people walking on the other side of the street- it just seems unncessary - what's your advice on this Dane?
You would not usually stop for oncoming pedestrians or cyclists but use your best judgement depending on the width of the road and how close they are... There's no simple one size fits all answer.
For me reverse around the corner never worked properly if I let the curb disappear. Not sure if it is because I have longer car. then based on feedback from my instructor I always keep the curb in view, and let the back tyre just follow the curve of the kerb, and straighten the steering halfway if needed, that worked well for me and my reverse during test went perfectly.
If you have your mirrors pointed down more then that would work better in your case, I'm not sure if that's what you did but I prefer to not have the mirrors down.
Are you telling me that you have the mirrors in a normal position and you can see the back wheel following the curve of the road? That doesn't sound right to me you probably don't realise that you have the mirrors too low.
@@DaneTygheletsdrive No, my mirrors are in normal good position (I have been driving for 15 years in multiple countries), I have Estate car which is longer, so it's easier to see where the tyres would line up with kerb and follow it. My method is very similar to yours, just that I don't let kerb disappear so much in first turn, I start turning slowly a little sooner and control the angle. edit: I do not actually see the black wheel, but I know approximately where it is, so I go based on that
My instructor taught me the pizza slice method - reverse straight until the angle of the corner looks like a pizza slice in your left mirror, then turn until it straightens up again (and you do too). When it looks like a pizza slice again, turn again, and the next time you have to straighten up again you're basically ready to stop.
Hi Dane .I've been watching your videos for months .I got a question, as a an instructor do you think is there any chance of a learner driver can pass the exam without having own car and practicing someone's car ?
I know what Outtakes are like since they do show the mistakes. That happened while making this. I do see them sometimes in Movies and TV Shows. And I know I was trying to practice how to. Reverse Around The Corner in a Housing Estate. Near the Castlebar Fire Station to. And it wasn't easy as I thought.
Hi Dane, I did my test last week and had to abort it because my car engine died 50 meters before returning to the centre and finishing. I got only 2 grade 2s (thanks to your videos) so I'm gutted. I have a retest tomorrow but at a very busy time so I wanted to ask, If I am entering a very busy main Street off a side road and have to cross across both lanes to turn right, am I allowed wait in the yellow box till the other side clears or do I have to wait till there is a gap in both lanes of traffic? Thanks so so much again.
I don't know because I can't visualise what you are talking about and therefore I'm not going to offer advice based on something I don't know or can't see. You are allowed to stop in the yellow box if turning right as long as you don't cause any obstruction
Hi Dane, when you were reversing around the sharper corner would a tester not say that you were weaving too much? This happened to me in a test. If not can you explain the difference?
When practicing reverse around corner with my instructor, he often tells me to stop + handbrake up when another car is approaching. In the test, should you continue to reverse or stop when a vehicle is approaching and overtaking ?
Hi Dane, two questions. How close/far should I be from the curb, as in is it better to be further out than too close? Also if I lower my mirror for the reverse to see the corner better, and forget to readjust it until a minute or two later (I keep doing this!) what fault would this likely result in? Thanks for the video.
12 inches, better to be a little further away if anything. You should not be messing around with your mirrors but if you forget it just depends on how the tester views it, there is such a huge level of inconsistencies with the testers that I honestly wouldn't have a clue how they'd mark it.
Hi Dane when when you start the reverse around the corner do you have to come to a complete stop before the corner to check mirrors or can you do it in one motion thanks.
Hi Dane, how far from a corner can I stop when I complete my reverse? For example, if I'm too far from the curb, how far can I reverse to get my car closer to the curb?
I just noticed that within the second reverse around the corner that a black car passed by you.. you should stop at all times when there is a car or pedestrian near you.. or its a fail
One thing to easily fail on is to not keep a look out for pedestrians! I failed the test once because a jogger crossed the road when I was reversing around the corner. I was watching the corner and the road and not the pavement.😛🤓🤪

Hi I have reverse camera in car do we need to turnoff for test ?
It's OK to use the reverse camera as long as you don't over use it
Do you need to put your hazards on when you reverse around the corner
No
Hi Dane, do you have to make sure the car sticks close to the curb throughout the entire manoeuvre or can you swing wide a little bit?
It's fine to swing a little bit wide, it's tricky to be too close to the kerb the whole way around the corner.
Hi Dane .I've been watching your videos for months .I got a question, as a an instructor do you think is there any chance of a learner driver can pass the exam without having own car and practicing someone's car ?
Yes anything is possible but it would require extra lessons.
Wouldn’t u stop for any oncoming traffic during the turn or is there any acceptions?
Yes if it's a narrow road and if you're swinging out but not if there's plenty of space and if it's safe. But if in doubt just stop.

Yes if you are very far out, it will always depend on the situation.
@@DaneTygheletsdrive Ahh, good to know! Thanks for the reply. 😃
It'll always depend on the corner. Practice is important.
Roughly how close should you finish to the curb? About a foot?
Your allowed a ft and a half
12 inches or so
Hi Dane, when you were reversing around the sharper corner would a tester not say that you were weaving too much? This happened to me in a test. If not can you explain the difference?
If were weaving too much then yes, note what I said about gently steering and the quarter steers. Practice can help.
When practicing reverse around corner with my instructor, he often tells me to stop + handbrake up when another car is approaching. In the test, should you continue to reverse or stop when a vehicle is approaching and overtaking ?
Sounds like the instructor is correct, you need to yield to others on this manoeuvre.
I do not see any signal in the video. is it not needed or understood that we have to signal as we are going to turn in the left direction
Not needed
Hi Dane, when reversing, do you not indicate to show youre going around the corner?
If it makes you feel better then go ahead but there's no need. Your reversing light is coming on so that's an indication of what you are doing.
Hi how long is duration of last?
Last time my exam starts 10 am and finished 11.45 it's normal 1.45 h or not
Where was that?
Hi Dane, do I need to indicate while doing reverse around the corner?
Not really no but it's no big deal if you do

Have booked test twice in Waterford in the last month cancelled both times before due to unforseen circumstances. Has this happened anyone else ?
It's unusual but not inconceivable.
Hi Dane, how far from a corner can I stop when I complete my reverse? For example, if I'm too far from the curb, how far can I reverse to get my car closer to the curb?
Try to fix it as long as the tester allows you to.
I wish this video was made a few months ago when it was a corner like the first one in the video that made me fail.
At least you have it's now 😊
I just noticed that within the second reverse around the corner that a black car passed by you.. you should stop at all times when there is a car or pedestrian near you.. or its a fail
Why would that be a fail?
Hy can you please help me with doing theory test I did today and I don’t get pass I get only 14 number 😭
You need to do more study on the rules of the road, buy the CD rom or download the official theory test app
The end bit 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 take five 😂
😁
The end 😂😂😂
Your distance from the kerb should be 45 cm but in your video it loooks les than that.
One thing to easily fail on is to not keep a look out for pedestrians! I failed the test once because a jogger crossed the road when I was reversing around the corner. I was watching the corner and the road and not the pavement.😛🤓🤪
A valuable lesson learnt, you need to be checking your mirrors and over both shoulders
The number of neck turns is making me feel dizzy already 😂
