Great video Donny. I dont need all the technical stuff - I jut love the Sottish scenery , camping, drone footage and beautiful scenery . Im not fit enough to do n see the stuff you do but you make everything worth while to bring the beautiful Scottish scenery to me . Thank you loads n loads.
Thanks stephen ..delighted you enjoy the videos and Im sure there is a few years left in both of us ..after all are new governments not saying we shouldnt retire at 65 ..and work until 75 ? Thats why I think im in the promised land..its all behind me now :-D
5 foot long 😄 that made me laugh, of course it was Donny, we have all caught one of those at some point 😂 Etive looks spectacular on days like those, with the mirrored finish on the surface. I have only ever been out on the loch once, I rented one of Doug's boats for the day and I was amazed at the feeling of solitude. It's so hard to convey on camera the dramatic scenery, especially down Starav way, but your new GP and the way you have configured it does a great job. Not sure I am looking forward to the next video.....but I'll certainly be looking out for it as usual... Cheers.
Yup..I enjoyed the different perspective of the Gopro lens..it gave a better impression of the size of the loch compared to the 50mm lens on my Sony I normally use. Its even more remote on a cold windy winters day and Im fighting into the waves in the wee boat :-D
Yup..Im happy with the Gopro crf9993 especially now they reduced the price of it to 300 quid instead of 400..but then..I suspect they will upgrade a new model next month hence the price drop 😀
Hi Donny, the Gopro Hero 12 looks great. I got my Hero 9 out of the cupboard which I haven't used for about two years and totally forgot how to use it lol, so I have been doing a lot of catch up. You will catch your monster trout soon Donny. Love the videos and really enjoyed watching. Thanks Steve 👍
Some great shots of the mirror like loch. I use a GoPro Hero 8 Black. It works well and has an inbuilt stabiliser. It sounds like it's a big improvement on the 7. Great video.👍
Yup.. Im not sure if the Hero 7 I had was not the full shilling as it was very tempermental from day one. I still have a Hero5 and Karma grip gimbal but even on the gimbal its not as steady as the hero 12. Hero 7 footage was great when it worked though :-D
Thank Brookspirit ..my boom kept the gopro handy as it was tied to the boat..but I was too lazy to put the wee door on the Gopro that makes the charging port waterproof so Im not sure the Floaty handle would have helped much this time. I will keep the hero12 door tightly closed though 😀
Hi Don, maybe one day your wee out the way bay might not be so out the way..known to all.. I've never caught a broonie in the brine Al need to have a try😉
Yup..I have not been camping there much the past 2 months as Im sleeping on the boat. Although i enjoyed the location ..there was only room for one tent as it was boggy ground all around it..but then thats why I chose that spot..I knew it wouldnt get very popular 😀
I have a Sony RX100 VII and a DJI gimbal for the most boat stuff..and mix it with a Sony RX100 III on a tripod for campside stuff. Then a gopro if its wet and windy..and also a Sony FDR AX53 camcorderfor long zoom shots. Also a DJI drone camera. Thats why I do my own colour grading so the camera changes are not so noticable ..if that makes sense 😀
Nice footage from the new camera. I also use Linear mode as I prefer the level horizon. I'm still using Hero 5's and 7's but would consider a 12 when the time comes.
I still have a Hero 5 but its way behind the Gopro 12 now and needs a gimbal. I was happy with the footage from the Hero 7 but think I had a half faulty one as it kept crashing and I had to pull the battery out to reset it. That why Im delighted with the 12..it works. I would have tried the DJI action 4 if the shops had one as it seems to get better reviews ..but thats mostly from youtubers who got a free one from DJI so they could review them. Im happy with the 12 but was happy with the 7 too when it worked. :-D
@@donnywilcox My Hero 7 has been very reliable (using the blue tooth remote can sap battery life) The picture quality of the 7 is way ahead of the 5. I tend to use the 5 in the underwater housing for fish release footage etc. rather than main content. I video in 1080p because my computer can't handle 4k for editing. Keep the videos coming, I maybe bump into you next time I'm launching at Taynuilt.
Hi donny . Thanks for another cracking video. Loch Etive is on my hit list to do . At wich point do you access the loch with long stay parking . Regards phil
It depends ..as you can leave a car at the eastern end there is a car park there at the end of Glen Etive ..and also at Kellys pier you can leave a car a few night if its not too busy but I would not leave one a week or so ..just use common sense depending how busy it is.
Hi Stuart..thats my PLB (Personal Location Beacon) If I get in trouble in remote places or out at sea ..I pull up its aerial..press a button and it sends a distress call to the emergency services and gives my location..so well worth it for peace of mind ..although I hope to never having to use it :-D
What has the vampire season been like this year, Donny? I was up near Aberdeen on Wednesday, and there was no sign of the little buggers. Nice footage once again. I had a hero 5 and the battery was awful. All the best to you sir.
The east coast is always better for midges..as in not so many there. This year they were not around in start July as was so cold but now its warmer..they seem even bigger in size..fortunately its been mostly windy so not much of a problem :-D
I cried when it drowned david as I knew I would not getgravy for a week or two paying for the new gopro..but can laugh again since my Pension was paid last week 😀
If Im honest ..I colour graded this video so it looked like an older type film video. Sometimes I think these new digital camera videos are too harsh..over saturated and sharp ..but then Im an old analogue guy myself boatsandoutboards so thing the hero4 is ok too 😀
Hero 4 has no stabilization or horizon leveling whatsoever. My phone camera is not good enough on a wavy day either. That's why I don't upload any videos with my inflatable :)
Hello donny any chance of ur phone number to text for a weather update because that sean batty ain't got a danny larooo about the weather .you always get the forecast better than him and xc weather
I doubt I could help eddie..as Im getting the weather wrong these days too..every time I go out..it rains. Still forecast for september is improving ..according to Met office. I gave up on XC weather a few years ago..it used to be good ..but not any more :-D
Hope you don't mind me saying Donny but I find the images slightly out of focus and not very sharp, compared to some of your earlier shots which were gin clear. I say as someone who has in the past made, videos and has almost been anal about getting as clear a shot as possible usual on older cameras and older video software. This is just my opinion of course and expect most people would disagree. Cheers and great video.
Hi Ben..I certainly don't mind your feedback and I am finding it useful and I also agree with you. Looking at the clip where I caught the pollock..its very sharp and was from the Gopro 7 I lost. It had sharpness set to Normal. I took the sharpness off in the new Gopro as my own feeling is it was too sharp and digital looking and Im trying for a more "analogue" film feel using a LUT for fuji SuperX 400 film which has a softer feel ? ...however it may need a bit more sharpening in post editing. Its not until I try mixing Gopro with Sony camera clips that I will hopefully get everything to match so I cant tell when changing from a Gopro clip to a Sony clip that I will get it sorted the way I want..it was also a very hazy day on the loch due to the heat but that wont affect the close up shots of mec in the boat. So do comment with your thoughts about the videos ..Im self taught and still learning through trial and error :-D
@@donnywilcox Thanks Donny, I've not put together a video for quite some time but I found when using 4K against the 1080 resolution, I don't know, it seemed that the 4K images were so loaded with digital information the the image just seemed a bit lost whereas you knew where you were on 1080p and could sharpen or soften in post. Lots of scenery in the new video series graham.. the episoded will hopefull cover a year of the loch ..from the wee out the way bay :-D
Another gem Donny. What stunning scenery. How I miss fishing in Scotland, but you help to keep me sane!
Thanks again david 😀
The new GoPro does beautifully in capturing the stunning scenery. Thanks for another great episode and even the weather cooperated.

Thanks Tony.. yes..its as good footage from the 300 quid Gopro as I get from almost 2K of Sony camera and gimbal ..so Im happy with it 😀
Another fine film Donny, great clarity on the new camera
Thanks ian ..yup..Im happy with the Gopro now..especially the price. My sony camera and gimbal cost almost 2K and doesnt give any better quality 😀
Hiiiiiiii, Donny boy, here I am again 😀nice video, nice fishing, thanks for sharing 😉

Nice footage from the new camera Donny, very clear. You're doing something else right too, catching a few fish more too, well done.
Ahhh..to be more precise Ashley..Im catching fish I can eat now ..I dont torment those spur dog things as there are not suitable for scoffing.:-D
I’m loving the new camera footage Donny ….🥃
Thanks tam..Im still experimenting with its settings. I did a night lapse of the northern lights the other night and it worked well too :-D
There is a GoPro accessory called Floaty that stops the GoPro from sinking and gives it more protection, I don't how good they are.
