I'm really glad you've reviewed this from the point of personality and the kind of person (especially with ADHD) who thinks by writing - because that's exactly what I'd use it for. I have shitloads of notebooks that I forget what's in them (or grab the nearest one to write something in and mix it all up which... hurts). I was unsure if this was any good for me but everything you're talking about is my jam.
Thank you so much for talking about this from a ND perspective! I was thinking about buying one because my brain is similar to yours but was unsure. Now I am confident in looking at it. Thanks. :)
The main reason why I've thought about getting one is the ability to insert new notes in between old notes. Just like if after typing a whole page on Word and you want to insert a new paragraph in the middle and the words below just shift down. Can't do that with pencil and paper. I would like to organize multiple notebooks worth of notes into one digital place but being able to add notes in any order amongst older notes would be even better.
Omg, I'm thinking of buying an e-reader and note taker tablet just because of this reason--inserting new notes in between old notes--but I can't get my hands on reMarkable(it doesn't ship to my country) so I was thinking of buying Boox note air, which I really hope it has this functionality of insertion new notes in between old ones...
I'm glad I watched your video. With all of my computers, and experience, I find myself still writing on paper. This sound like an awesome replacement. Thanks
I just bought the Remarkable-2 a few days ago and even though I've been looking at it for quite a few months and have been interested since number 1, I got a sudden panic about it. I was scared it was another one of my stupid impulse buys and that I was gonna regret it. (I'm not diagnosed (yet) but I'm pretty sure my brain lives in the add land somewhere lol) This made me much more calm and confident about my choice. I think this will be a great tool for me as my ipad (although I love it) is definitely a distraction when I try using it for those functions. Thanks for this informative and simple video. I started watching a review/guide split in 4 parts, 45 min each, and it was just not possible for me to get through. Brain be like HUH? ... Rewind. Huh? Forgot to pay attention.. Wait what was he talking about? ... I give up. Lol. 🙈😅
I ordered mine this weekend. So excited! I have notebooks for different parts of my life/thoughts and would love to have ONE place to write but still have separate notebooks. (Haha) I journal a lot and write stories so I'm excited to try it for that too.
Great review. And you nailed the question some people have about ipad vs reMarkable. Two completely different devices. Ive owned an ipad for many years, but for example, while I’m on my zoom calls using my ipad, I cant take notes using the ipad, so thats where the reMarkable comes in for me. I take a lot of notes and create post it notes and sadly, all my notepads and stickies are spread all over the house, so cant ever find any of my notes when I need them, or I have 3-4 projects sitting on one notebook which is equally confusing. I order my remarkable 2 a couple days ago and just hoping it doesn’t take as long as some people are saying.

Bro, where are you looking at? I was constantly trying to match eyes with you but you're looking above the camera. 😂 Btw, I just ordered my Remarkable 2. Excited!
Was about to purchase a Remarkable/2 (despite the fact that there are no local distributors). Then I checked the vendor Warranty. Unfortunately, it's "limited" and lasts for just one year! Almost all the viable alternatives offer 2-3 year options. And in some instances, this includes accidental damage etc. Deliberately minimal Guarantees like this are concerning. In my experience, this indicates that the manufacturer has no confidence in the reliability & longevity of their product /device. Yes, it seems like an innovative & useful device, especially for some specific use-cases (as explained). But it's expensive - and I've no interest in purchasing a new one each & every year. Yeah, there are planner templates that come with it. Not sure how exact of a template you are hoping for though. Might be able to import/download others.
Thanks for the review, but you do not need the Remarkable stylus. The Steadler jumbo mimics the functionality of this marker, although some say it does not feel exactly the same. In addition, the Lamy AL Star is well regarded for us on the Remarkable.
Quick question: you said you can only look at the notes but not edit or even copy and paste afterwards in the app. Can you edit the notes if you convert the handwriting to text then send it over email? Does the text come as the body of the email or is it just an image of the converted text that is emailed? *Edit* Never mind. You answer that further in the review. 😊
Interesting. The battery has been basically a non-factor for me - I don't have to think too much about charging it. I just plug it in like once a week or something. The fact that I can have that sort of lazy attitude about it make it a win.
when you look towards the camera, where are you look at exactly? at the lens, past the lens a few inches, far past the lens, a few inches before the lens? Sorry for the weird question, trying to figure out how to record videos that makes me look like im staring into someone's soul. thanks.
I do tarot readings and draw then spent forever cleaning up sketches to Photoshop. I also do self healing written therapy. So this totally got me pumped Thank you
Thanks for the video - my question is about noise while using - how noisy is the pen when writing on the surface of Remarkable - I have an iPad with a Paperlike screen protector but frustrated with the noose of the pen clacking on the surface.
Mark great video , you consider that the Remarkable2 size is appropiate for take notes in the school/University? , I use paper notebook with letter size where in my notes include graphics and sketches. And other question: When you write in Remarkable2 the letter is sharp? , sometimes I noticein differents reviews that it looks like pixelated unlike writing on an iPad that the lines look perfect
Yeah, it’s about the size of a normal piece of paper and you can do lined templates of various widths. As for the sharpness it is more pixelated like a kindle. It is no where near as crisp as the lines on an iPad
I have couple of questions. 1. I wanna use it as a "kindle".. read books, I mostly read nonfiction, textbooks types and I write directly in my books. This looks perfect for that, but all of the vids I've seen, there's one thing that looks really annoying.. It looks like the pages flip really slow.. like internett in the 90's, waiting for the page to load.. 2. Can you create notes with bookmarks from e-books, if you know what I mean.
Yeah, the e-reader is decent, but not great. The pages flip somewhat slow and the functionality isn't off the charts. It might be possible, but to my knowledge, you can't highlight and add bookmarks. It's much more of a note taking output device than an input , information consumption device.
Thank you a lot for the review! How is it in reading? I’d like to have a combined device for drawing schemes and reading books. Most of reviews tell about making notes, but I cannot understand could it replace my broken pocketbook or not. Could you give me an advice there?
Hey, yeah you can read pdf and epub and it works. But it isn't as good as a kindle or pocket book. Formatting is always a little weird or something when it converts to the remarkable. But again, it works.
Nice review! Can i purchase this only for my sketches and drawings? Is it worth it for that reason? Because you said it's ok but not great probably! By the way I'm a cartoonist! Or have you any other suggestions for some other device? I just love the fact that when you use the pen its like using it on paper with this device , plus all other devices have layers, when this doesn't! Please let me know 🙏🏻 🙏🏻
Cartoonist. Cool! You should check out my marketing companies' animation work. www.peerthrough.com perhaps we could collab. Send me your stuff. The remarkable does have layers. But you're stuck in black and white. Again, the drawing isn't my favorite but it works just fine. You can export as .svg which is nice to bring into illustrator, but if you really want this for your cartooning, I'd go with an iPad.
@@peerthroughmedia thanks a lot for the support and quick response! Layers, i mean like pen to screen there is no gap between the two with the remarkable 2, instead with any other tablet there is! I might probably go for a tab s6 lite, i saw many reviews and works perfectly for what i need it for! But still, i love a lot this R2, not sure what to do 😢! I will for sure try to show you some of my work! I do manga's ☺️
I'm hoping to send files to the remarkable 2 to take notes on (like a pdf of color powerpoint slides for classes). When you send the document back to yourself after taking notes on the remarkable 2, does it go back to being in color or does it stay grayscale?
Not sure, but I would think what you could do, is make notes on a new layer. Then when you send, turn off the visibility of the layer with the slides, send as an SVG and overlay those notes on your computer. Should work, but doesn't seem that efficient/I haven't personally tried.
the only way I'm capable of studying at my best is through my own, handwritten notes. using an endless notebook that i can sync with email/cloud would be awesome for me! would you recommend this product to someone like me?
@@peerthroughmedia thank you! i was planning to talk to my parents about this since i already struggle a bit with my studies... the only exam i passed at ease was one where there was no textbook involved and we could use our own notes hahahah
Can you please provide advice for those who may be left-handed and/or have needs related to dexterity? It's hard to assess based on the videos if you have difficulty with handwriting. Also, do any of these products convert handwriting to typed text and do simultaneous audio recording similar to a Echo Pen? (where the writing and audio are synchronized)? If there was a notebook that worked well for left-handed people with dexterity difficulties, did synchronized audio recording, and converted handwriting to typed text, with the capacity to turn off the backlight, and even a screen-protector paper feel if it doesn't come with the product itself, that would be a game changer for a lot of people. Can you please make a video about this???? Pretty please!!!!
To quote Princess Bride, "I'm not left handed" so I probably can't help you with a video on that side of thing. Though, there is a left handed mode. So, that should work just as well as the right handed mode. Remarkable 2 does a decent job converting handwriting to written text, but no audio recording that I know of. In terms of the capacity to turn off the backlight, remarkable saves you a step because there isn't a backlight. Seems like you have a strong vision of what you want though. Hope you can invent it one day! Thanks for watching :)
@@peerthroughmedia Thanks for replying. I do know what I want but I would rather work with a UX team to help them design it. It seems like reMarkable is super close. I tried to contact their team and they didn't seem to understand the concept of inclusive design (or at least the person I spoke to through social media didn't). Aish. I'm surprised that they don't seem that interested in expanding their customer base.
I've been wanting this for decades. :) But I don't want to get another device that I don't use because it doesn't meet my needs (like my frustrating experience with an e-reader). I am also confident that there are a lot of people like me out there and that even people who don't need these features will benefit from them.
The reason I'm mentioning turning off the backlight and the paper feel is because these seem like great features of reMarkable. But if iPad Pro, for example, was able to better deliver the other features on my list (and I have a cool list!), I'd pick another one and adapt it.
You can choose thin for a line type, which gets pretty small. You can also now pinch and zoom in with the latest software update. As for equations, it's as good as writing them on paper I guess.
I did like your video. Thank you. But you haven't said anything about the reader. On my remarkable 1 it takes over one minute to change a single text settings (font size, font type, margin type) of an ePub file with about 250 pages (not large). is it faster, better on yours? With PDF's the contrast is low on reMarkable 1 and there is no way to adjust it. Is the contrast on PDFs better on reMarkable 2? Thank you in advance.
heyo. I haven't used the remarkable 1, so tough for me to compare on that end. However, as a reader I give it an "ok" as well. I haven't noticed any speed issues and it certainly works, but it's no where near a kindle. As I primary use the remarkable for creative output as opposed to information input, it serves me well enough.
@@peerthroughmedia Bearing in mind that you normally use this for a different purpose, have you tried the new web page conversion on this device? I was in the original thread promoting the new release but decided to wait for a host of reasons...and I seem to recall that conversion function wasn't available when this was announced last year. Of course, their website makes this function look pretty slick and I wouldn't mind "distraction-free" reading. Thank you, and thank you, too, for making this video. Very nice.
Thanks a lot for this very clear video. I’m waiting for my RM2 with the exact same configuration as yours. I live in France as I’m... French 😁 so the only constraint I see is the QWERTY keyboard (we need accents as you may know) One question, does the system automatically send the file in the cloud or do you have to do it manually? Thanks a lot
@@PeerThroughMedia1 thanks Mark for your prompt answer ! I assume the upload is done when you close the file? Same for the file updates. Thanks again 🙏
They have US and norwegian keyboard and even if a typical norwegian keyboard has les accents aigus , graves et circonflexe, you do not have them availble in the rM2 keybord for now. But the hand conversion to text (quand tu convertis ton écriture en écriture d ordinateur) takes into account french writing so it will convert les accents et meme les c cédilles.
Ciao. Only in the battery life. The battery lasts longer when WiFi is off. I also work with it on my lap a lot so I turn the WiFi off out of paranoia. NO idea if there is science behind laptops directly on the lap etc. but figured - eh, why not just keep it off? As I mainly use it as an organized notebook, I don't super need it to be connected. I just turn on the wifi when i need to convert to text and send an email. Within that same couple minute frame it tends to sync all the content to the cloud.
I have a rM 1 since two years and, like for the rM2, the support for organizing documents is basically inexistent: no support for page bookmarks, no way to access the same document from different folders, no way to add pages with annotations to a .pdf document, no support for rotating a two-columns document for better readability. The devices have very limited memory, a crap software and poor customer support, in my view.
Fair, I mean it doesn't even begin to touch the first 1% of what an iPad can do, BUT I personally still like it. Helps me disconnect from the screen and still get work done. That said, I have never had to deal with their customer support, and you're not the first person to mention that it's not that great.
@@peerthroughmedia I suppose my hope is that when it syncs automatically to app that there is the option to print directly from the app rather than going the round about way of emailing each document then printing. For example once my documents are saved to one drive app I can print directly from there.
How small can you write on one of these? Would this be good for small writing, technical notes.. I'm thinking of getting this or something like this for college classes and for that unplugged feeling. Currently I'm going through a couple notebooks each class. I write sort of smallish I think - my letters fit inside a 4x4mm square on average. I've tried writing smaller but at 2x2mm sizes it becomes a bit too slow for me. Can this write that small?
Hmmm, I'm not entirely sure how to answer this question. You can zoom in and out on the canvas so that would help with small text. For the most part it feels like it can write as small as you can write on paper.
Great video - shame about the price, worse still is that they price gouge international markets. They added an extra $124USD to the price just because i live in australia. In total one of these with the good pen and the same cover as you have will run me about $850 usd. Pretty dam steep and i could really benefit from one of these. I don't mind it being expensive, but i do mind companies who feel like gouging people just because they live in a different market. Good companies like Apple, Tesla and so on just do a straight currency conversion.
I have boox max 3 I have no more miss of papers and notebooks I organize my notes and I have boox cloud storage and day to day I syn it It is excellent to have such devices... It is not for videos, browsing etc Just note taking and reading
Steadtler noris digital works on the RM2 available on Amazon. Comes with 5 tips which has a softer feel. You can change out tip with RM2 ones if it's too soft. Cost $29.21 CAD. Doesn't have eraser on end but there is a hack of putting a coin along the side of marker (standard one with no eraser) and it mysteriously does erase
From what I can tell with the standard software - no. It will remain on the same page you left off on though. I also know there are some hacks to upgrade the OS and I believe you can leave bookmarks then, but I haven't tried that.
Well you can still select "eraser" from the side bar and then erase with the front of the marker. But I agree, much easier to flip it around and erase like a normal pencil.
Thank you for sharing! I found an odd thing of rM2, after 20 minutes without using, sometimes it shows a bar at top showing "press the power button to start ", but sometimes it just closes the screen and show "the remarkable is sleeping". Do you know why? I'm just curous and don't know how the program works.
I really loved the experience on the RM1 but eventually returned it. My wrist kept hitting the page turn buttons on the bottom. But, yes, it's a much better deal at this point, and they include the marker.
I have one ! The unit is great !drawing is great! But and a very big annoying but !!! It has a very annoying line across the page ! When I try to get a replacement ..... it is almost impossible to find out how to return or complain on their website. Then when I do I get a reply 3 days later saying I have complained incorrectly and need to register a different way with photographs .... ten days later still no reply !!! Not impressed !!!
Oh no. That’s a bummer to hear. Sorry man. I personally haven’t had to deal with their customer service (and hope I don’t ever have too). Best of luck!
That's so strange. I had no problem with that at all with customer service...but, on the other hand, I had the reMarkable 1 (which I eventually returned because my wrist kept hitting the page turn buttons on the bottom). They might have been much more responsive then because the product was new. I also had a line across the page on that first unit and they replaced it quickly with no problem. Checking out their site now, they do say that it might take two weeks for them to reply...which doesn't help you, I know, with the clock ticking. When I did return my unit (twice, since I sent the replacement back, too), this is what they had me go to this website/returns page: remarkable.12return.com. I followed the steps and then they sent approval for the return within a day or so, I think, or maybe three.

I do tarot readings and draw then spent forever cleaning up sketches to Photoshop. I also do self healing written therapy. So this totally got me pumped
Thank you
I hope you don't get paid for that fake stuff...
Thanks for the video - my question is about noise while using - how noisy is the pen when writing on the surface of Remarkable - I have an iPad with a Paperlike screen protector but frustrated with the noose of the pen clacking on the surface.
It’s about as loud as regularly writing. Maybe slightly louder. Noise doesn’t bother me
It works with other Wacom ones (probably spelled that wrong). The kindle scribe one etc
Good, practical review. Thx.
Thanks. This was very thorough and very helpful ^_^
You are very good at this.
🙏
Mark great video , you consider that the Remarkable2 size is appropiate for take notes in the school/University? , I use paper notebook with letter size where in my notes include graphics and sketches. And other question: When you write in Remarkable2 the letter is sharp? , sometimes I noticein differents reviews that it looks like pixelated unlike writing on an iPad that the lines look perfect
Yeah, it’s about the size of a normal piece of paper and you can do lined templates of various widths. As for the sharpness it is more pixelated like a kindle. It is no where near as crisp as the lines on an iPad
Great review! Does this generate any blue light?
Nope. That’s the best part about it. You can “unplug” - no blue light, no email- without totally unplugging
It's much more of a note taking output device than an input , information consumption device.
good review, thanks
I think it would have been better to wait a few weeks or possibly a couple of months before giving your thoughts. What do you think?
Haha sure. We’ll it’s been almost a year now and thoughts are basically the same
my eyes hurt. my room is a whirlwind of papers. I really struggle with ADD and distractions. this is for me. thank you.
Yeah, it's an eye saver for sure.
@@peerthroughmedia thanks for the review!!
Thank you a lot for the review! How is it in reading? I’d like to have a combined device for drawing schemes and reading books. Most of reviews tell about making notes, but I cannot understand could it replace my broken pocketbook or not. Could you give me an advice there?
You can read pdf and epub, but no kindle ebooks
I journal, rake business notes, do keto, and other stuff. Can I organize my notes?
Sounds like you could make notebooks for each of them.
Uhh, yes.
@@peerthroughmedia thank you! i was planning to talk to my parents about this since i already struggle a bit with my studies...
the only exam i passed at ease was one where there was no textbook involved and we could use our own notes hahahah
Nice review to go with a nice device
I think your hoodie is remarkable too.
Ha, love the word play! I actually made that hoodie myself too :) www.thisnewmark.com
Outstanding
Thank you!
Excellent video.
How is it for writing out equations. And iis there a fine tip stylus for writing small, fine, lines and text?
You can choose thin for a line type, which gets pretty small. You can also now pinch and zoom in with the latest software update. As for equations, it's as good as writing them on paper I guess.
@@peerthroughmedia thanks for the reply, i actually ended up going with a parblo which has been fantastic
If you’re connected to WiFi it uploads automatically
@@PeerThroughMedia1 thanks Mark for your prompt answer ! I assume the upload is done when you close the file? Same for the file updates. Thanks again 🙏
@@MP-wu2ou yeah, once you close the page it seems to upload.
@@blobidibou9503 Appreciate you answering this one with more knowledge. 🙏
Ciao Mark, do you see any differences by working on line to off line (wifi). Thanks
Hello Peter,
Do you still like your remarkable ?
I do! Who’s Peter?
hi quick qustion to templates does it already have templates for sheet music??
It does actually and guitar tabs
@@peerthroughmedia Thanks for your quick response
they are all shown here: th-cam.com/video/6GzcJbXFLT8/w-d-xo.html
Thank you for the review. Can idea how to get a planner / diary on it?
Yeah man, there are tons of templates for planners and journals. You can also lock the screen. This device is pretty perfect for something like that.
I was wondering if there was a screen lock option that has passcode so others aren’t able to snoop???
the fact it is only 8gb is a huge deal breaker. I wanna read MANGA 😢
Once content transfers to remarkable app on your phone is there an option to print handwritten pdfs.
That's a good question. I've never done it. But I'd imagine you could attach a file as a pdf to an email and then print it out.
@@peerthroughmedia I suppose my hope is that when it syncs automatically to app that there is the option to print directly from the app rather than going the round about way of emailing each document then printing. For example once my documents are saved to one drive app I can print directly from there.
Sold it . Getting one
Good review...
I have boox max 3
I have no more miss of papers and notebooks
I organize my notes and I have boox cloud storage and day to day I syn it
It is excellent to have such devices...
It is not for videos, browsing etc
Just note taking and reading
Steadtler noris digital works on the RM2 available on Amazon. Comes with 5 tips which has a softer feel. You can change out tip with RM2 ones if it's too soft. Cost $29.21 CAD.
Doesn't have eraser on end but there is a hack of putting a coin along the side of marker (standard one with no eraser) and it mysteriously does erase
Is it possible to make bookmarks there in notebooks/ebooks/pdf?
From what I can tell with the standard software - no. It will remain on the same page you left off on though. I also know there are some hacks to upgrade the OS and I believe you can leave bookmarks then, but I haven't tried that.
missed your calling as an artist
I had a no internet sunday and after using it didn’t realized 4 hours passed of me writing
amazing!
I feel like it’s good for science researchers
Can we use an isometric paper as background?
I have no idea what that means. 🤷♂️
I can't see why anyone would want the lower priced marker with no eraser!
Well you can still select "eraser" from the side bar and then erase with the front of the marker. But I agree, much easier to flip it around and erase like a normal pencil.
If you ever do a remarkable giveaway (even old device), please count me as first entry. I'm a student trying to save paper :)
Im really looking into getting one but i must say... the whole recent subscribtion thing is really driving me away from the company
Yeah, I saw that. Seems annoying for new buyers. From what I can tell, those of us who already have one got grandfathered in for free.
Don't buy it. With so much money, you can buy a laptop or chromebook with a touch screen, which you can use a digital pen to write on it.
why is his voice relaxing?
I'm just going to pretend you mean mine and drop a link to my music channel here: th-cam.com/video/EJEv803q_IY/w-d-xo.html
;)
Thank you for sharing! I found an odd thing of rM2, after 20 minutes without using, sometimes it shows a bar at top showing "press the power button to start ", but sometimes it just closes the screen and show "the remarkable is sleeping". Do you know why? I'm just curous and don't know how the program works.
I'm actually not sure what the difference is based on battery time etc.
I own the RM1 and I love it! No need to upgrade. I actually would suggest you guys downgrade! Jk..it does what it says. Thank yiu for vid.
Nice. I’ve never even seen an RM1 tbh
I really loved the experience on the RM1 but eventually returned it. My wrist kept hitting the page turn buttons on the bottom. But, yes, it's a much better deal at this point, and they include the marker.
Can you read Epub books?
You can. You need to convert kindle books to ePub though to read on the remarkable.
Can you write white on black?
Not to my knowledge
@@peerthroughmedia thank you! Is this a software limitation, I wonder? For me it would be a wonderful upgrade from regular notebooks.
So not worth the price after you have bought the accessories
Boom
Hahaha. Yooo!!!
U mean i cant sit out in the rain and write or draw? But the lady in the RM ad at the docks feels misleading, cyz what if it falls in the water🙃
Haha
Can you import PDF?
Yep. It does a pretty good job at standard black and white PDFs
