Mam I have one doubt in subculture ....when we transfer little amount of culture on medium plate u said that a single colony will be growing on another plate ....but in picture B there are two different coloured culture is shown ....I did not get it ?
If culture is of same type, then when we are transferring little amount (loopful) of this culture, same type of colonies will appear after incubation upon sub-culturing. On the other hand, if culture is of mixed type as shown in picture B (representing two type of cultures), then they will be separated from each other during sub-culturing giving us individual colonies of each type. Therefore, sub-culturing is also used a regular means for purifying mixed microbial populations..
