My first test was in the middle of a snowstorm, I had to run the entire course in bad visibility and unplowed roads. The instructor failed me because I missed a stop sign and when challenged, even his colleague said there was no stop sign. Still failed me. Talked with a few others that this guy had failed, we're certain he doesn't pass any male student on their first attempt.

We had one like this where I grew up in Australia. This arsehole refused to pass anyone who made it through the test successfully first time. He'd get you back to the car park, then think up some major infraction to fail them for. Yet if they had one or two minor mistakes, he'd pass them. Go figure.

The left turn on yellow fail is crap. Yellow means slow down for upcoming red. You can proceed as long as you don't speed up at all once it's yellow trying to beat the light but you can absolutely coast on through. That examiner is insane and telling someone to throw it in reverse during a yellow is a really quick way to guarantee someone to get their bumper smashed (we all know I mean rear-ended but I didn't want all of the comments that would follow, haha) Frick that examiner.

    • @MothmanOfficialWva
      @MothmanOfficialWva ปีที่แล้ว

Yeah the rule I learned is that if you have to speed up to get through the yellow, then just slow down. If you can get through without changing speeds, you’re fine.

12:30 In fall 2009 I (an American) spent a semester studying abroad in Ireland.
1: In one of the pre-travel planning meetings, our college's study-abroad coordinator told us that driving is one of the most common causes of death for students abroad, even in first-world countries.
2: At the Dublin airport, at the rental car pick-up, on the road connecting the rental lots to the rest of the airport's roads there are the same signs that the commenter mentions. Multiple huge signs over the entire road.

Imagine Actually having a road test. I had my "road test" a few weeks ago at aaa. The test consisted of driving around the testing building, executing one each of a back-up, three point turn, and parallel park. It took less than 5 minutes. I passed, and the only trouble I had was forgetting to check my mirrors when pulling out into traffic once.

16:36 for those not aware of driving laws yet, even if you're given the go ahead to drive (example: a green light), it is still your responsibility to make sure the way is clear before you continue. although the pedestrian shouldn't have started walking when the light was about to turn green (and there ARE indicators telling pedestrians when to light will turn green), the driver is still at fault for not yielding for the pedestrian.

A friend failed before the test even started for being too tall. He’s almost 7 feet tall (2.10 meters) with shoe size to match. The driving school had SUVs that he could fit in, but back then you took the test in the testing facility’s cars and they just weren’t big enough. The tester took one look at how he placed his feet on the pedals (weird angle to fit his legs around the steering wheel) and failed him on the spot. Nowadays, you test in your driving instructor’s car so he could do it, but doesn’t care enough to bother with it.

Damn, that was an intentional set up. Poor dude. Honestly it takes driving through several school zones before you learn to keep driving the school zone speed until you actually pass a sign that says end of school zone. My DMV test was interesting.
I was told to parallel park. Backing up to complete the maneuver.

  • @Watachan89

French here. Failed my first exam because the lady that was my instructor didn't teach me one single important thing: the right priority when turning left.
Imagine this: I'm at a four ways intersection, I am leaving the starting point of my exam and my examinator says that after the tricolored lights, I have to turn left. OK, cool, I do just that... except I don't let the cars opposite past me as I should because I DON'T KNOW BETTER and he immediately tells me I just did a critical error. Just 30 seconds into my exam but I still have 19 minutes to go😭 And since I'm both in panic and unaware of how I'm supposed to left turn correctly, I do this shit two more times. Of course, the first was already enough but it just makes it even worse😵‍💫
After that, I was offered to learn driving with my parents since it's something my driving school did after failing an exam, and my grandma taught me for the next 6 months and I got my license on the second try. I almost thought I failed again at the end because I didn't stop at a crossing path with a lady waiting to cross it but I justified that I mentally calculated that by the time I had stopped, the path would have been behind us so it was both useless to stop now and dangerous because of the cars behind me, and thankfully the examinator agreed.
I can say I was pretty lucky these past 10 years. I had only one small accident with another driver and scratched the paint a couple of times at best. Alas, I'm mourning my car now as she was burned down last month on New Years by a bunch of dumbasses. Rest in peace my dear, I wish I could have driven you just a couple more years at least😭😭😭

I saw someone fail before they left the lot. Before you begin a test, the examiner will do a walk-around of the vehicle, asking you to test your high-beams, turn signals, brake lights. If any of these are not functioning it's an instant fail before they even get in the car.
Anyways, my gf is from Brazil and she was taking the test for a valid license in Canada, and we were waiting in our spot for the instructor. Instructor comes out for the vehicle next to us, yells them they are going to check their lights etc.
"Okay, flash your high-beams please.... Your high beams...... YOUR HIGH BEAMS!.......... Okay, left signal......... Left signal please....... YOUR LEFT SIGNAL!"
Didn't get to the right signal or brakes, wrote him down for a fail right then and there

  • @phs125

In my part of India, if you just go to RTO (it's our DMV)
And apply for a driving licence, they make you go around a tree that's just growing infront of the building. Then fail you because you didn't do all the things you could possibly do anyway while circling a tree.
But instead if you join a driving school, get the driving instructor with you, he'll just say "trust me bro, he can drive fine" and closes RTO fist with a few thousand rupees.
You've passed the test. No need to even show at the place...

not a driving test story, but I had a "Behind the Wheel" instructor that I swear looked and sounded exactly like Chris Farley...
Oh, and I managed to fail my first driving test by getting into the middle lane of a three lane road to be prepared for whichever direction the instructor wanted me to go. They claimed I was "swerving." not my only mistake, but the one that put me over the top. Also, the first time I ever drove a vehicle (a go-cart), I didn't get the concept of holding down the gas rather than giving bursts to keep up speed and kept killing the engine.

I feel like a pity pass is definitely a real thing, after the first few attempts. The next instructor is fully aware this is your fourth or so attempt.
If they see you’re actually taking this test seriously yet still struggling a little.
They’ll be a lot more lenient and look past certain things. In hopes you don’t have to return another time.
Source: me, a dude had to retake the driving test three - four times before actually getting my license. Where the instructor said to me: “I’m going to pass you, but…”
Basically insinuating that “just don’t Fuckin’ run any god damned pedestrians over, and I’ll give you the damn license.”
