    Hi! Thanks for the video! Did you find a way to record better quality with the Sony ???

  • @flat-out
    @flat-out 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Basically you're just comparing 2 Sony Image sensors...The older one from the Sony HX80 is an Exmor R while the iphone 7 has the newer Exmor RS I think it's even found in the new beast that Sony unleashed a couple days ago the Sony A9. Yeah Sony is the market leader in Image sensor development and manufacturing for a lot of devices not just cameras. Also I just found out Sony uses or owns HawkEye technology if you watch Tennis matches the replay challenge technology for seeing if the ball is in or out within a millimeter.

      OUTDOORS55 , no problem...I made the switch to Sony coming from the DSLR dinosaurs and I've been more happy and more successful with Sony and even the DSLR that I had Sony made the sensor for them. I did all my research on Sony before switching they just continue to innovate and lead the way...check out the Sony A9

      My biggest problem and ONLY problem with my Iphone 7 is Getting the Videos into Sony Vegas, which will not support .MOV files unless you first convert them, extremely frustrating hence me watching the reviews on this Camera to see if it's worth my money to by a camera that I can simply upload to my computer and straight into sony Vegas. What did you use to Edit (Software)?????

    • @OUTDOORS55
      @OUTDOORS55  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This was all in automatic mode. I don't really know what the best settings are. I think it would depend on your lighting conditions. Automatic mode works pretty well on this camera and gives pretty good results. Hope this helps😀

    • @nictheartist
      @nictheartist 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't got this particular camera, but if you can find any sort of custom setting, try to use that instead, and reduce the contrast a little. It also helps to play around with the white balance, if that is an option. I have found that with many compact cameras, the auto setting tends to overexpose the image. Reducing the contrast might help with that, and then you could maybe reduce the exposure (+/-) by one notch.

    Really Good info Alex. I want a stand alone camera to free up the phone battery for navigating and communicating. I keep playing the "for just an extra $100 you can get this one" game, all the way up to the RX100V which is amazing... but $1K is totally out of my budget. I think the HX80 is the camera I want after watching your video. The internal microphone seems excellent as well.

    • @OUTDOORS55
      @OUTDOORS55  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Glad I could help! Canon just came out with the new sx730 for $399. It has a flip up screen unlike the sx720 it replaces. It might be one to check out. Yeah the internal mic is way better than a phone. That's really the reason I bought this camera is to have better sound quality. But I still think the image quality is lacking. I would like an rx100 as well, but 1k is is just too much for a little extra quality..at least me me.

    Hi
    im interested in buying this camera
    im an amateur photographer not an expert and really liked this camera from the reviews i saw. i also want a flip out screen for selfies.
    after using this camera for a while would you recommend it?
    for photos mostly and sometimes videos of course
    i heard that the menu is not very user friendly but except that what is your input?
    thanks

    • @OUTDOORS55
      @OUTDOORS55  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I actually returned this camera. I need it mostly for video and while the video quality is OK it's not great under low light. Pictures were very good! I just picked up a Sony a5100 and will upload a video of that today. For an extra $150 you get much better video under med. to low light. I am very new to video and don't know much, hope this helps!

    • @ZiVa2Ri
      @ZiVa2Ri 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank for the reply!
      the menu is fine though? or really annoying?
      i need the camera mostly for pics and not video

    • @OUTDOORS55
      @OUTDOORS55  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I didn't mind the menu..I figured it out without reading anything or watching any videos about it. I don't have much experience with cameras though, so I'm not sure what to compare it to. Try and buy somewhere with a good return policy, play with it, and return it if it's not for you. I think it's kinda subjective... hope this helps😁!!

    I guess I’m the only one that prefers the richer, warmer, color saturation of the iPhone.
    Actually I’m quite shocked. Maybe I’m just used to my Fujifilm gear the last 5 years.
    I do keep a Sony HX90 in my day pack for travel. Just for birding, or candid street shots.
    Was your iPhone perhaps on the “Vivid setting”.? Thanks for the demo. 💁🏻‍♀️

  • @stevekraynik2991

    The compromise in these is in order to get a 30x optical zoom they have to stick to the smaller 1/2.3" sensor. I have a Galaxy S7 that will do fine in low light and day to day use. What I want is a long zoom for vacations when I don't know how close I will be to what I want to shoot. Great comparison video though gives a lot of food for thought.

    • @OUTDOORS55
      @OUTDOORS55  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed. Another reason for the crap low light in the hx80 is the small aperture. I believe the largest is 3.5. It's still a great camera minus the low light. Thanks for watching and the comment 😀

    i got this camera a couple of month ago as well! it works really well in day time during hike~the zoom is amazing in day time for wildlife! but it perform poorly indoor~so I carry a Sony Rx100 for that purpose~haha

    • @OUTDOORS55
      @OUTDOORS55  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I did really like it during the day time and the zoom was awesome, but it really suffered indoors. I ended up returning it and getting the Sony a5100 so I could get better low light video. It shoots amazingly in low light! Your camera testing definitely helped my decision!

    • @JSAdventure
      @JSAdventure 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      glad it helped! i have a6000~and it isawesome, but i wish it has the flipscreen like a5100. if you like shooting outdoor/hiking, you should consider Sony 10-18mm~great for selfie and vlogging and it's my favorite walk around/travel scenery lens!

    • @OUTDOORS55
      @OUTDOORS55  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm a total noob with cameras and the learning curve is steep! I definitely would like to pick up a 10-18 as I like those very wide scenery shots. Now I just need to save up some money! Thanks for the tip!😄

      Have you had issues with the A5100 with overheating? I love the image quality on the 5100...but if i'm traveling and want to get videos of some shows, I don't want my camera shutting off and overheating during a time sensitive show. thanks!

    • @OUTDOORS55
      @OUTDOORS55  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes it will overheat after 15-20 minutes. Then it must be allowed to cool down a couple minutes. That doesn't bother me as I usually only record 4-9 minutes at a time. I wouldn't recommend it for long recordings.

    • @nictheartist
      @nictheartist 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I suspect that, given that this video was shot on auto everything, we haven't seen the camera's full potential. If you like to zoom in on stuff, an optical zoom beats a digital one anytime. Besides, you might need your phone while filming, so a separate camera can be helpful.

  • @indoorandoutdoorendurance3889

      Im sorry I'm not sure I understand. This was shot in xcvc s at 60p, and uploaded at 1080p. Thanks for the comment😃

    • @indoorandoutdoorendurance3889
      @indoorandoutdoorendurance3889 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      When I tap on the three dots in the upper right corner of the screen (they are arranged one on top of another) I see a readout that says 720p 60. This is in android, and I have a screen resolution of 2560 X 1600, so I know that is not restricting the resolution. Can you check this way too? Also, I see this (720p 60) for clips from both cameras in your video. Thanks

    • @OUTDOORS55
      @OUTDOORS55  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh..sometimes TH-cam or the internet provider limits the resolution to 720p for whatever reason. It happens sometimes on my iPhone too. Not sure why. I just checked it on my computer (5k iMac) and it says 1080p 60p. It's hard to really tell a huge difference on a phone anyway. When viewed on a large screen it's easier to tell a difference. Thanks!

      OUTDOORS55 Well, I'm not going to worry: Before I even wrote you the first time I was checking other video reviews on the same camera with the same tablet and wi fi here, and another one was also in 720p 60, but others were playing in 1920 X 1080. Thanks

    Can you configure White Balance, Apperture or Shutter on Iphone? The Iphone is just using a shady balance, while sony is standard, maybe 5000K, sony seens to be configured to have a tinner aperture giving more detail on the background, the Iphone is not better, it's just have a better automatic setting for shooting overral since it gives less option than a super zoom camera, a profissional photographer could make a more in-depth review, you do not buy a super zoom or dslr to make review based on auto settings.

  • @frafemia
    @frafemia 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Honestly, the Sony is better, the distinction is very subtle. The Sony camera is less bright and yellowish and has an image that is much colder. Therefore the hx80 appears worse thah the iPhone that looks brighter and has much more vivid colours. But in reality the image that is closer to real colours is the Sony because it portays objects and enviroment in much more natural way. Not to mention the better audio quality, the flip screen and the countless more functions the camera has. Anyhow for true videomakers an actual camera, even if it’s a compact point and shoot one, is pretty much always the better choice. Also I think the settings you used were not optimal, mainly the ISO were bad set to my modest opinion.

      Auto settings on compact cameras are mostly rubbish, once you fiddle with the settings, I suspect the result might surprise you. My secondary compact is an old canon 12x zoom camera, and on auto it is pretty poor. I have set up a custom colour profile, and when I need a bit of an optical zoom, it does fairly well. It's way cheaper than this one.

      I just left it on automatic mode for this video. The hx80 is not good in low light due to its very small sensor. I ended up returning this camera and bought a Sony a5100, which is much better in low light. The hx80 is not THAT bad in daylight, but indoors it really suffers. Theres not really any settings to adjust to make it perform better indoors other than adding more light. Hope this helps. Thanks!
