      Did you use the oil that it came with? If so that could have been your problem. The oil portion of manual states you need different grade of oil in extremely low temperatures.

  • @hornetd
    @hornetd 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    Two concerns I want to share with you. It is plain that you used Non Metallic Sheathed cable, commonly called by it's first manufacturers brand name for it which is Romex, to make that connection cable. The possible consequence of using that cable is that the wires themselves are solid. Unlike the fine stranded wire in a cord it is more likely to fatigue and break do to the vibration of the generator. You need to size the wire in that cord for the ampacity of the generator's main breaker. If for any reason more current than the generator can produce for a long time was flowing through that breaker it would open on the overload and prevent the generator or it's ampacity matched cord from being damaged. Yes that the gauge of cord which matches the generator's ampacity Is likely to be expensive when compared with Romex but there is a way around that.
    Install the inlet box on a post made by burying the end of a pressure treated 4X4 in the ground. You will need to dig a trench for Underground Feeder (UF) cable or Underground Service Entry (USE) cable which are suitable for direct burial. Cable must be buried 2 foot deep to it's upper side. Use whichever one is the least expensive there. You can also use PVC Non Metallic Conduit (NMC) and pull THHN-THWN individual wires into it. That only needs to be 18 inches deep to the top of the conduit so it's a little less digging. Mount the inlet high enough above the ground so it is easy to plug into. 4 feet up will make it much easier to see the inlet plug to insert the cord connector over it. You may want to place a yellow mark on the cord connector, that is what the receptacle end of a cord is called, and a yellow mark on the inlet connector so that it is easier to insert the connector into the male inlet when setting up. You may also want to put a green mark were the yellow mark is on the cord connector when it has been plugged in and turned to lock it in the inlet. Yellow mark to yellow mark to insert and yellow mark to green mark when it is locked in position to prevent pull out. The colors are not important use any colors that suit you. Those were just examples.
    Why am I saying you should put the inlet 30 feet away from the house? Because 25 feet is the absolute minimum separation from the home that any generator should be operated to be sure that Carbon Monoxide will not infiltrate into the house and kill you and your family. If the generator is at least 25 feet from the house you don't have to worry about CO infiltration. Even with 25 feet of separation make sure that you have working CO detectors that also detect propane gas getting inside your house. If enough propane accumulates it will reach an explosive concentration by mixing with the air in the house to propane's lower explosive limit. Propane is heavier than air. When it leaks it flows across the ground like invisible gasoline. It will accumulate in the lowest space it encounters. Basements that have not been externally waterproofed are vulnerable to propane infiltration. External water proofing as a building code requirement is a relatively recent requirement.

      I turn the generator switch on in the panel first. Then the generator. Then the needed breakers. Usually I leave The air conditioner breaker off too. Might be best to check with an electrician or chat gpt as I could have done them out of order.

    Thanks for the video. I seriously have to question your manual interlock install. If you look at 8:59, the red bar clearly is way above the circuit breaker. Which makes it look like the generator circuit breaker can be moved regardless of where the red bar is (and thus the main breaker!). This defeats the whole purpose of the interlock. It may be a visual illusion, but it definitely doesn’t look correct on the video.

    • @FIELDSROBERT
      @FIELDSROBERT  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It just looks like it on the video. I just had to use the generator the other day and tried to move it. I couldn’t. It was actually installed by previous owners. Hopefully by a professional. Lol.

    • @TheBry_Guy
      @TheBry_Guy ปีที่แล้ว

      I am in Ontario, Canada and these breaker panel interlocks, while handy and cheap are unfortunately illegal here. I had to go with a "Gener-link" transfer switch which mounts under the main power meter. works great, but costs about $2000 installed with a decent cord, which are proprietary and can only be used for the gener-link. they also make a big note about making sure your generator is floating neutral, not bonded. they require a licensed electrician to install and coordination with the power company. Sounds way worse than it really is. wham bam installed in less than an hour, including a full test.

    The breaker interlock has nothing to do with preventing "blowing up your house or generator". It has everything to do with preventing you from murdering a power company lineman by back feeding the line they are working on.
    And you are completely wrong about the main breaker on the genset itself. You should start the genset with the breaker OFF.

      There is a car-style fuse in the battery's 2-wire (RED/BLK) plug-in connector located under the control panel area.
      ...follow the battery wire to locate the fuse in its holder and snap that open to remove the fuse. You can visually verify that the metal loop is intact (link) not open, or check with OhmMeter or continuity checker. If this fuse is bad you will not see the amber BAT light. If this light is on, your fuse is good.
