    Make sure you treat the fuel and turn the fuel switch off to let the generator shut down on its own. That will clear the fuel in the carburetor. Then turn off the power switch. Be blessed and a blessing Amen.

    After closing fuel valve and allowing the engine to turn off by itself. Put the choke on full and pull start (it will start again trust me) let it run until it turns off again. Repeat until it doesn’t start anymore. Then you will be 100% sure that all fuel is out of the system 👍 good video

    We lived in Joplin Mo about 4 blocks from the hospital that was destroyed, we were fortunate. I used a 5500watt generator and ran my whole house total electric. I turned off the freezer, fridge and water heater during the day because I had a 300 gallon salt water fish tank I needed to keep running. All lights, tv's and computers ran during the day. At night we turned on the water heater and turned everything else off and took showers. before bed we turned on the fridge and freezers while everything else was off. worked good for us!

    All that hard work and expense sure paid off. I was surprised, too, that you could use a stove burner. That's a big thumbs up. You won't have to use your porch stove if there's snow on the ground. I've heard that Texas may have some power supply problems this summer. Similar to what California has been experiencing for the past few years. True or not, I don't know. Do know I'm glad you're setup to weather the storms. And Bev, too, from the looks and sounds of things.
    Love the handle on that knife. That woodgrain pattern is as close to perfect, IMO, that this world can offer.
    Your rain is heading our way. We need it! Won't be solar cooking this week, unless maybe Thursday. That's OK. Peoples gardens and crops need water worse than I need time to experiment with "Turbo No Knead Bread" or soup in a black canning jars. Plus, I'm thankful that it will be cooler this week. Broke a heat record, couple of days ago.
    Hope you and Charly have a cool, safe and BLESSED Monday.
    Godspeed.

      Texas was persuaded to rely on a bunch of windmills for power. They found out a couple years ago how unreliable they were. There were folks without power for a couple weeks. We broke a record here for heat also but last night it got down to 59. Desert ironwood is one my favorite woods.

    You probably know.....some CPAP machines can be run on 12 volt, with an adapter thingy. Thats my backup plan. Although with your generator, you probably have 110 volt available, so never mind. But in my case, 12 volt (solar re-charge) was the way to go. Nicely done, my friend!

Turns out, the machine is 12 volt by default, but it uses an internal 12 volt DC to 110 AC power adapter when I plug it into the wall. I did have to get the correct 12 volt plug which was proprietary (of course) but its worth it for me.

In addition to jumper cables it has a 120v and 3 USB receptacles. Maybe you already have something that will work. If not, something like this multi-function battery could be an option. The joys of being at the end of the power lines I guess…….
    Our 7000w generator will run pretty much everything as long as we don’t use everything at once.
    So we can run the stove, or the electric dryer, but not both at the same time.

      I don’t know how much we used during this outage but under full load it’s supposed to run 12 hours on a tank and it’s 6 gallons. This was not even close to being a full load so I’m thinking it will run much longer than that.

    @BCtruck, BC Blades - My Grandfather and I both have the same model Champion 7500/9500-watt dual-fuel generators as backup power sources for our different but similar sized houses.
    I have a natural gas stove, a natural gas hot water heater, a natural gas clothes dryer, a natural gas furnace, and a natural gas barbecuer. So my generator can run everything at the same time if the need arises.
    My Grandfather has an electric stove, an electric hot water heater, an electric clothes dryer, a natural gas furnace, a 2000-watt microwave, and a propane barbecuer. So he has to pick and choose when to cut the power on one appliance or multiple appliances so he can run one of his high-load electric appliances. The generator can run everything, but not at the same time. I wrote him a detailed list of which high-load appliances and low-load appliances he can run at the same time, depending on what he's trying to do.

      Not sure what a soft start or an air handler is.(?)
      I have a 240v receptacle in the garage that I plug the generator into. The cord was custom made for me by a former neighbor who was a union electrician for 40 years. You insert the plugs into the receptacles (30 amp on the generator) and twist, locking them in place.
      All I do then is make sure the main is off, start the generator and then flip the generator breaker on the panel and the whole house has power.

    CPAP, know the feeling. I am still waiting two years now for a reply form Phillips Respironics to get me a new machine. Had an issue similar to yours with utilities. Some DA was in the neighborhood to drill holes for new phone poles. Well where we live we don’t have anything like a utility marking company. Well on the first hole the ID10T hit the underground feed for the telephone lines in the neighborhood. Had to use the cell phone to notify them but on hold for An hour until I finally hung up in disgust. And yes I had the issue of trying to het through to the right problem page using their voice prompt system. There should be a law against this. I recommend contacting your Public Utillities Commision and complain about this issue. Have you considered lining the inside of that housing with mineral fiber boards to further cut on noise.

    • @bctruck
      @bctruck  ปีที่แล้ว

      Same here. The tornado took down phone poles,with electricity,cable, and land lines going with it. It also took down all the cell towers. So we had no way of contacting outside help. Not the police,EMS, power company.. no one. That was a real eye opener. Now, I have a much better radio and Ive put a solar panel on my battery that runs my cb radio. I don’t think there’s a need for any more quieting of my generator. You can’t hear it in the house and that’s all I’m really concerned about. In fact, my neighbor has a generac genny installed by a company and we could hear hers in our house.

  • @steelfist65
    @steelfist65 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    • @JimsEquipmentShed
      @JimsEquipmentShed 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have the same setup, I couldn’t use an interlock as my generator is in the garage, and the power panel is on the house.

    • @steelfist65
      @steelfist65 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JimsEquipmentShed then a transfer switch is your best bet. It completely depends on how you are feeding your electrical panel. I keep my generator in my garage, but use a SJO cord to feed my transfer switch in the house. I could backfeed from my garage circuit, but that's certainly not advisable. I'm not trying to be a safety Nazi, but safety is my number one priority.
