A short sympathetic story re: your crochet hook disaster. Last February I decided that it was time for a new desktop computer as mine was maybe 8 years old. I decided to treat myself to a better computer than I was used to, so I ordered a $1600.00 HP. The day it arrived I moved my old computer desk out a few inches from the wall to get at all the cables. I spent an hour setting up the new computer. All that was left was to move the desk back against the wall. As I did this, the top part of the desk with all the cubby holes suddenly let go and fell over on top of my expensive new computer, completely destroying it. After I recovered from the shock, I jumped in my car, drove to Walmart and bought a $500.00 computer to replace the smashed one. It happened to be trash day in my neighborhood, so I bagged up my heartbreak and dragged it out to the curb. 😪
Juan, the tour of your hooks was so interesting. Getting the best tools for our crafts makes all the difference in the world! This video was so well done! Thank you.
The hooks that you called Tunisian that your Aunt called Afghan hook she was correct. I have been crocheting since I was 10 years old, am now 63, but back then we didn’t call in Tunisian. We called it the afghan stitch and you needed an afghan hook to do the afghan stitch… Now these days they call it Tunisian….
I a geek so here you go: Amicor, a unique fibre with anti-bacterial and anti-fungal additives is owned and managed by The Thai Acrylic Fiber Co Ltd (TAF), a company that was incorporated in 1987. Part of the corporate behemoth Aditya Birla group, it has a wide and deep presence in textiles. Amicor is an intelligent anti-microbial fibre. Due to the unique fibre structure, the additives are diffused slowly - providing long lasting protection inside beds, bedding, furnishings and carpets. Amicor comes in various forms and they deliver a variety of effects and benefits for the end user.
So sad for your loss, but as you say, they will be there when it is the right time! I am happy to see the confidence exuding from you! The difference now to when you first started is awesome! You are hitting the nail on the head, keep it up, bringing much joy to our community..you always make me smile.. Thankyou.👏👏👏👏👏😍😍
It’s sad to hear about the hooks. Well you wouldn’t want my Aunt helping at a garage sale. She came into the house so excited that she sold something, my kitchen aid food processor and al the accessories for $25. lol I like the review about the hooks. I believe the older ones were made better, and I like long necks.💕
You are right about the Boye hooks. I was 14 when a family friend taught me how to crochet (in 1968!). I definitely notice a difference between the hooks that I started off with and the hooks that I have bought recently. Great shout out to TL Yarncrafts! I love her!❤️
I am so sorry about the trash mishap. I really like your personality ur Mom is definitely worth more than the hook lose. U have a heart of Gold and I do believe u will be rewarded with great success here and I can't wait for each video
Hi Juan. Maybe in time you can push yourself to work with pink yarns. LOL. There are so many beautiful shades of pink just as there are beautiful shades of purple. Just some food for thought.
Oh Juan I’m by myself and I just gasped out loud. I’m so sorry. I’m also super impressed. Good for you for prioritizing your Mom over those hooks. God will bless you for that. Well played.
Absolutely 100%. I've always used boye hooks since I began crocheting 62 years ago . And OMG WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!!!. SIZE AND SHAPE. AND QUALITY . YOU ARE SOOO RIGHT . NOW I CROCHET WITH CLOVER HOOKS AS I HAVE ARTHRITIS. AND THEY ARE CUSHIER . SO THATS MY 2CENTS WORTH. 😂❤❤
Honey you are such a busy man from what you told us that learning how to knit. I can't wait to see your scarf and hat set. Sorry you will find I am a very motherly person. Please don't overdo yourself. You are a great addition to this community, so please take care of yourself so you can stay part of this community.
Love all the yarn you showed thank you for sharing with us all. Really digging your cardigan. Hope you have a wonderful day.Take care stay safe and happy crocheting.I have those tanision hooks and i love them and the boye
I love the crochet hooks that you have stored in the little box !!🤩 I use that type all the time because they work well with any type or thickness of yarn and are easy on my fingers and wrists 😍
Those flat hooks in the felt roll up are one of my favs! I had a moment.of silence for your hero hooks. 😢 Love your channel. I have very small hands but I love the pryms! I thought I was a clover.fan but these , for me, are better.
Oh, I'm so sorry about the Hero hooks! I would be devastated but YOU! What a wonderful way you have to look at it; not meant to have them right now but will find them again when it's meant to be. I'm so glad I followed Crystal's suggestion to subscribe to your channel! I'm constantly learning from you, Juan, and not just about yarn! You're a wonderful young man and your channel is awesome❣️ Can't wait for your next vid! Peace 🕊️ & Love 💜 to you, friend. xx
Hi Juan, sorry to hear about your Hero hooks, but I loved the Eddie Bauer yarns, I could see a gorgeous sweater or other wearable there. Also liked the Ice Cream yarn in Tiger Tail, a C2C would look cool.
So sad about your hooks! I completely understand!😢. Loved todays post. I’m ready to go buy some of the yarn, beautiful! I love the hat you are wearing! Bag-o-Day has the hat patterns down! And the yarn you chose is stunning! Thanks Juan❤️
Oh, I’m so sorry. I have done that so many times thrown things away accidentally. It hurts but moving on. I love you you will forever be them when you are-meant to…
Love the video content, Juan. Sometimes life sucks, sometimes it's great. I'm hovering midstream at the moment! How interesting to see all those different brands of hooks. I never really thought about that. Enjoy the day and be happy! 💕💕💕
Oh no! So sorry for the mishap with the hooks! Those are bag o days fav! She will feel so sorry for you too! You are a trooper Juan! Love Susan Bates hooks! Me and Glenda at Creative Grandma.
Wow, I didn’t know Hero hooks were selling for good money. I have them in a bag and in a box somewhere. I have nerve damage and they are difficult to hold, I now have ergonomic hooks. Have you every watched Bonnie Bay Crochet ? She really upped my crochet.
So devastating. I had a similar situation happen. My SIL donated my huge box of over 50 hooks vintage and high end to Goodwill. I had 1 hook left. Starting over broke my heart… and my pocketbook. I still haven’t replaced them all… seven years later 😢
Juan you’ve taught me something new. I didn’t know there was extra large hooks. I have crochet hooks from my maternal grandmother who would be 142 . I’ll take a picture of my favorite and send it to you on another internet site.
Oh no... I'm so sorry about your hero hooks... BOD Crystals favorites also. By the way I just watched her video....she was shopping at Michaels...😅 !!😅
I’m sorry you lost your Hero hooks. However, i love your attitude about it. I really enjoyed show and tell with all your hooks and the retail therapy yarn. Thank you for sharing. 🥰🧶
I only know one other person who uses Hero Hooks, and that is bag a day! I love charcoal too! There's nothing more beautiful that a charcoal hat to me but I knit. That ice cream yarn would make a nice baby throw
Hello Juan, so sorry to hear what happened to your hooks! Aren't those the brand of hooks the Crystal also likes to use? Love the brown color way Sienna - by Caron Simple soft, going to check it out! Look forward to your hat and scarf tutorial. Also love LB Basic Stitch!
Oh Juan….😢😢😢that just makes me want to cry about your hooks! I have done such things….I can only say DUH!!! Otherwise I literally would cry myself to sleep. So many stupid things, such a short life to live with it. There are things like this that haunt me to this day, grieving for the loss and my stupidity. I love your attitude towards moving forward. I agree and believe that when you are meant to have the hooks, by gosh you will find them. I feel for ya brother ❣️My ❤ goes out for those lonely hooks in the landfill😰😰. I love your channel, your works, and you….. How about a kiss, hmmm? 💋💋💋💋💋💋Love, from LeeAnne
Whenever you get a notification noise on your devices during filming, you should just say "bless you," or something similar, to it and then move right along 🤷🏼♀️🤣
Ok Juan, Crystal went to Michael’s because of you!!!!! WOW she hit the jackpot for sure. I was so excited watching her and drooling. My Michael’s is right across the street😮but my piggy bank is sure bone dry ugh 😢😢. Oh those HERO hooks are Crystal’s absolute favorite. ❤gayle NOOOOO YOUR HOOKS ENDED IN THE GARBAGE😢😢😢
At my last job I was fortunate to care for geriatric patients many of whom enjoyed fiber arts (crochet, knitting, tatting, needlepoint, etc). They were in agreement that the quality of equipment could vary widely. Their advice? Dedicate one hook or set of needles per project. You might have five J's but they won't all pick up the yarn the same. And they won't feel the same in the hand. That tiny variation in handling can make a difference in the finished project.
Since we’re talking about hooks… picture it… I’m 4’11, size 3 shoes in girls and my hands are proportionate to those stats. I bought some Prym hooks to try (as you suggest) so imagine me trying to crochet with those huge pool sticks 😂 But I will follow your advice again and challenge myself to practice getting comfortable with them and increasing my speed! Just love you ❤ Keep pushing out those videos!
Great video! You are definitely prepared for any yarny project with any of those great hooks you have. BTW, I love your sweater. I want to assume you crocheted it. If so, is it your own creation or from a specific pattern? Love your channel. Congrats on over 10K subscribers already. 😁
so nice to run across your YT this morning it took me from 5am to 7pm to watch it in segments I just have a crazy busy life. Oh, your precious hooks taking an unnecessary early death, I would have sat next to the rubish bin and cried for hours.. I have a very small collection of wooden hooks that have been hand carved from wood on his property and he is no longer around the streets.my all time favorite I took along on a family get together in the park, my nephew came up asking about my hook, could he hold it, sure, the sweet 6 year old put it in his mouth and snapped the hook end right off!!! loved your video, will watch more, thank you
I was so frustrated trying to crochet - I called it a crocheting disability (LOL) until someone recommended I try the Prym hooks. I have the same ones you do, and I can crochet!! I have an autoimmune disorder that's taking away the use of my hands so I can no longer needle knit, so I use knitting looms, and now I can crochet too!
Sorry Juan about your hooks! But at least you have you have a good a humor about it! Thank you for sharing all your yarn and crochet hooks! A little humor here...HOOKS CAN BE CONFUSING,KINDA LIKE A HOOKER😂😂🙌🧶🧶
I grip calling them afghan hooks also. My Children tend to hand off my supplies without asking. I am like you I do not care for pink. The only purpose pink has in my life is to be handed off to somebody else who will use it. I do keep a couple of balls strictly to make baby girl baby blankets, and that's it. Love all of the yarn that you picked up. I am glad that you are not said about the hooks. And they will come back to you when you need them. They have a comparable hook to the Prym at Hobby Lobby. They have grey rubber, flowers running up the side, and different colored plastic for each size
The single sold plastic Yarnology crochet hooks from Hobby Lobby are the same exact crochet hooks sold at The Dollar Tree. I purchased both and noticed once I had the packages side by side. S/N…really enjoy your channel!
Oh wow! I’m sorry about the hooks! I’ve been crocheting for 50 years and I’ve not heard of Hero before. I’ll look them up. I enjoyed seeing your hook collection. I like to see what others use. 😊
OH NO!!😮 NOT THE HOOKS!!😢 I was so sad and heartbroken for your loss! I truly hope that the impromptu "retail therapy" helped ease the hurt somewhat! I'm certain mom meant no harm by what took place. The yarns you bought were very pretty! I really liked the Ice Cream yarn --the yellow, orange, gray, and white were definitely unique! That's why I love watching your videos, the color combinations that you share help me to come up with different colors to use for my projects. I will have to go to my local JoAnn store and film a video of the yarn that we have here, especially in the Clearance section of the store. Might get a few more ideas for you to consider!
I love Hero Hooks..mine go back to the 60s and newer!!! I have worn the color off of a few!!! I lost a container of steel and bone hooks in a move..those were my grandmother's...I understand how devastating that can be, and Know that we are thinking about truck going down the road.😢
It's difficult when things happen and it's no-ones fault. I am sorry you lost the hooks. That yarn haul is just great so varied. I'd love to see a 'Throw' made. I hope the yarn gave you the lift you needed. Those hooks are precious❣️
My knowledge of crochet is very limited at best, but I absolutely LOVE the Prym ergonomic hooks! I bought a 4.5mm hook out of necessity as I thought I'd lost mine, and promptly fell in love with it. The long neck, the online curves...just...*chef's kiss* And I'm so sorry about the vintage hooks going MIA. Retail therapy FTW!
So sorry for the loss of your Hero hooks. Good attitude about moving on & buying yarn🧶 I have recently purchased Prym hooks & love them! I have to have the ergonomic ones for my hands. I have over a dozen vintage Boye & Susan Bates hooks in various sizes that were my Mama’s.🩵 I actually spent time today using some of them with the Impeccable yarn in her memory. 2 years ago today was our last together. Thanks for your excitement over yarn & hooks & your soothing voice. Coupled with Crystal’s excited Michaels trip is what I needed to finish this difficult day.💜
I could cry for you, Juan. I don’t own a single Hero hook and my heart breaks. It is devastating. I can only hope somehow someone who really needs crochet hooks can find them
I just love to see the hats every day every way a new hat. I love me some hero hooks. I have an h hero hook. Oh no! Trashed the trove! I get how bad u feel.
Great video!! Sorry to hear about your hook mishap! I think the LB ice cream in tiger tail would make a nice looking throw. Tutorial on the hat and scarf set would be great! I think, whatever, you decide to make with the 3 colors from EB.. all 3 colors would look very very nice together. I think, too, that the red really ties them together beautifully.
Yes... I just got some of this same yarn! I love the Eddie Baur yarn!!! I'm making hubby a granny blankie with that anti bicrobial yarn. I love clover hooks!
I’m sorry about your hooks but like you said what’s for you is for you. I loved my Prym hooks. My daughter also crochets and she took all of mine. Lol They are her favorites so I have to repurchase them. So for now I’ve been using my off brand Amazon hooks until I can purchase the full sets again. I loved this video. You’re such a joy to listen to.❤
Oh, Juan 💜 sending hugs. My situation with hooks is I leave them with the unfinished project and buy more hooks or if I’m teaching someone I give them a skein and a hook. I’ve always used boye, but found at Temu this white plastic Susan bates type of hooks that I was surprised I liked. I ended up buying a proper Susan Bates set and now you got me interested in those Pryms 👏🏼
Great podcast! So sad it’s over since I crochet while listening to you. I only have one row to go on that gorgeous triangle scarf you designed. Dare I say I’m obsessed with the pattern? This current one on my hook is wrap #3, using Mandala Thunderbird. So much fun!
So very sorry about your Hero crochet hooks. I have to say you are handling it wonderfully. Good for you! There are more important things than things. Hugs
You have asked for ideas on subjects for videos. I would love one on yarn lables.. I understand length and why I need to know the length. I understand why yarn weight is needed. I have no idea how to use ounces/ grams even though I have crochet for over 65 years. A total explanation of everything would be great.
So sorry about your hooks; retail therapy always helps ! I cannot wait to see what you create with the ice cream Tiger Tail yarn; it will surely be vibrant 💕 I think all three if the Eddie Bauer yarn would work up fantastic in a sweater. Love watching your videos; it feels like a cozy chat with a dear friend, look forward to seeing many more. Have a great evening and a better day tomorrow
So sorry about your hooks and I appreciate how you are dealing with it. This video inspired me to look through the hooks I inherited from my mom. Most are old Susan bates or Boye hooks (one is marked 10 cents!!!) and I found a Hero hook in a size 0 (which I've never used for crochet). You are gonna rock that scarf and hat from the yarn you admired the picture from.
I can’t find one anywhere with the cable

The blue Eddie Bauer w one of your charcoal yarns would be an amazing beanie or a scarf.
Honey you are such a busy man from what you told us that learning how to knit. I can't wait to see your scarf and hat set.
Sorry you will find I am a very motherly person. Please don't overdo yourself. You are a great addition to this community, so please take care of yourself so you can stay part of this community.
Omg 😮 I'm sooooo sorry. That is so crushing. And I bet Crystal is crushed too. Cause she loves those hooks too
I'm so sorry
Sorry to hear about your hooks, I would be crying. Love the yarn you got, especially the ice cream one.
My aunt taught me to crochet too, when I was about 20…I’m now 74. 😮😅. And you are right about the afghan hook. That’s just what we called it.
I just got my first set of Prym hook where have these been all my crochet life. You enabled me to get them and thank you so much Juan 😊😊😊

Hi Juan, sorry to hear about your Hero hooks, but I loved the Eddie Bauer yarns, I could see a gorgeous sweater or other wearable there. Also liked the Ice Cream yarn in Tiger Tail, a C2C would look cool.
I can only use Clover Amour hooks because my hands are fairly small. It's great we crocheters have so many options!
The Temu hooks were maybe made on a Friday afternoon at 4:45! 😂
So sad about your hooks! I completely understand!😢. Loved todays post. I’m ready to go buy some of the yarn, beautiful! I love the hat you are wearing! Bag-o-Day has the hat patterns down! And the yarn you chose is stunning! Thanks Juan❤️

Hi Juan!
I lost a container of steel and bone hooks in a move..those were my grandmother's...I understand how devastating that can be, and
Know that we are thinking about truck going down the road.😢
It's difficult when things happen and it's no-ones fault. I am sorry you lost the hooks. That yarn haul is just great so varied. I'd love to see a 'Throw' made. I hope the yarn gave you the lift you needed. Those hooks are precious❣️
My knowledge of crochet is very limited at best, but I absolutely LOVE the Prym ergonomic hooks! I bought a 4.5mm hook out of necessity as I thought I'd lost mine, and promptly fell in love with it. The long neck, the online curves...just...*chef's kiss*
And I'm so sorry about the vintage hooks going MIA. Retail therapy FTW!
Hi Juan! I went to Joannes and got a Prym hook 5mm is my fav size! I have 2 Furls odysseys coming in the mail tomorrow too! I'm so excited!!!
So sorry for the loss of your Hero hooks. Good attitude about moving on & buying yarn🧶
I have recently purchased Prym hooks & love them! I have to have the ergonomic ones for my hands.
I have over a dozen vintage Boye & Susan Bates hooks in various sizes that were my Mama’s.🩵
I actually spent time today using some of them with the Impeccable yarn in her memory.
Prym are my favourite hooks too. They are so comfortable to crochet with. I changed from pencil grip to knife grip with them and it saved my wrists.
I'm so sorry that happened to your hooks.
I have purchased hero hooks off ebay and they are not cheap. Looking forward to the new set
I like Pryms as well. They are a good choice for men with larger hands. I also like the longer necks.
Hi from El Paso Juan
Yes... I just got some of this same yarn! I love the Eddie Baur yarn!!! I'm making hubby a granny blankie with that anti bicrobial yarn. I love clover hooks!
I am heart broken fir your loss. But I so admire your attitude about it.
You’re such a joy to listen to.❤
I think it would make a beautiful sweater in the shades of charcoal and red.
Take some of that wonderful yarn and make yourself a Needle case
I have no idea how to use ounces/ grams even though I have crochet for over
65 years. A total explanation of everything would be great.
I think I would've cried about the lost vintage hooks .... Uffda. 😢
I'd like to get a long cardigan with a large hood. They were so popular in the 70's and 80's
