I picked up a homlite 330 thats been sitting for about 25yrs. Your video has been super helpful in learning about working on it. I have replaced the intake boot, cleaned it up, replaced the fuel and pulse lines, rebuilt the carb (zama), even pulled the check valve from the carb and verified that its working properly. After doing all of this, when im trying to start it, fuel is apparently running out of the muffler even with the adjustment screws only about 3/4 of a turn out. I hate to be that guy, but im out of ideas. If you have any ideas for me to look at, or maybe a video on rebuilding the zama c1s, or anything that may help me, i would greatly appreciate it. Your videos are super helpful, and you clearly know your stuff. I just purchased 3 used homelites that dont run( two XL's and one XL2) so im sure I will be watching even more of your videos. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
The two things I have seen that makes gas run out of the exaust is if the inlet side diaphragm is old and the little flap/one way check valve is not pliable, It doesn't close fast enough and allows fuel to escape back through. Or, When you rebuilt your carburetor you bent the lever arm up that opens the needle.It has to be just about a 1/32 of an inch below the edge where the arm is located. What socks about the carburetor on a 330 is,You can't see the medal ring that is in the center of the diaphragm through the little hole in the cover plate like almost all the other carburetors have. If the arm is to high of an adjustment you can see it through the hole because it will be almost right against the cover plate! It needs to be a 1/32 inch down inside from the hole.
Was just given a third 330, was claimed to be junk. Found out that the top housing comes off much easier if the IV rubber at the top right is removed. That allows the housing to have more room to be rolled up and twisted away from the fuel fill spout. You are correct about the early version having a loop connection at the on/off switch. Saw was butchered by a young boy who thought he could fix it, but didn't think that it required all of the little parts. Came with a new boot, new air filter, and an the upgraded oil pump. Glad this helped Jeff! The 330 is actually pretty easy to work on once you've done a couple and know what to expect. They aren't bad saws either...the big key I've found with the automatic oiler is to never let it run totally dry. Repriming can be a bit of a hassle.

What are the base carb adjustments for the 330? I watched three of your vids, I had hoped youde go over that on Marco's saw but none was forthcoming. Great information, thanks for making them. Your swearing isnt near as bad when I think about the things ide say. Keep up the good work.
Hey Leon! I'm an amateur small engine hobbyist and I picked one of these up for about 20 bucks that didn't run. The pull start is terrible so I've been using a drill to turn the motor over. I have spark sometimes, but it isn't reliable and now refuses to fire, even when I put some gas or starting fluid down the spark plug hole and intake (which it ran off of when I first got it). What do you recommend for diagnostics to tell where my problem is? I already rebuilt the carburetor and am looking at new fuel lines, so I really don't want to call it a lost cause! Thanks, your video helped me out a bunch for just cleaning it up, I just need it to run!

the oiler was CRAP vacuum operated non adjustable, the recoil VERY WEAK and engine backfires breaking recoil. air filter TINY, black cover WARPS letting sawdust into carb, clutch linings UNSTICK, intake boot SPLITS causing overheating and THE PAINT never had primer and rubs off.

Yes, there is a tank filter and there is a screen in the carburetor as well.
