This was a protest song about the Iraq War, that is why we are blowing up the desert. It was a war that we sent a small percentage of the population to fight while the rest of us stayed home and were told if we didn't shop the terrorists would win. (And, of course, the terrorists weren't actually from Iraq).
The fact that this song is so deep, yet so many people don’t understand what they are singing about pisses me off. If u thought it means “Bring Your Own Beer” u are lost. It is “Bring Your Own Bombs”. Meaning everyone who came to the “oil party” in the Middle East. Hence “why don’t Presidents fight the war? Why do they always send the poor?”. Lost on so many.
