    This is why floor plans for campers are so challenging. As soon as you go to a flatbed, the layout is endless and your weight is not above the truck bed rails! I would imagine in the next few years depending on the economy we will see Lance, Northwood...etc. giving consumers the option. Great job Jesse!

    • @philborchelt5396
      @philborchelt5396 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      100% agree. Most double slides are overweight on 350s and 3500s. People do it, but if they have an accident and the insurance company says it was overloaded, THEY WILL NOT PAY OUT!! You can also be charged criminally for operating an unsafe vehicle!! Adding bags and springs DO NOT increase a trucks payload capacity!! I think A LOT of truck campers will be looking at flatbeds when their current setups get older. Very little cost difference between a 3500 and a 5500!!

    • @cmh2111
      @cmh2111 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think Host used to make one, but they discontinued it. But I think you are correct, as flat bed setups are becoming more popular.

  • @danh2716
    @danh2716 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    The door placement is genius. Not only can you tuck in to use the bathroom quick, but if it was just the two of you pulling up somewhere late at night, you could sleep inconspicuously without having to put the slides out.
    Really nice layout.

      I see a shift towards flatbeds. Granted, it would be a lot of redesign work, but there is a growing market for this type of rigs. I’m sure those companies are taking notes.

    Great looking unit. Love the bright home residential look to the interior. I just got word that our 2022 Lance 1172 won’t be ready until July and we ordered it last November. I thought ours was huge but this camper is in a class by itself at over 6,000 lbs. Great video Scott. Nothing worse than truck camper envy😂🇨🇦

      The Host Mammoth 11.5 is just like this but the entery door is in a different location and the bathroom is different...
      I want to know who the actual manufacturer is of these slide in and flatbed truck campers is....
      It's obvious Host just buys the raw shell and then just customize the interior etc....

    • @toddramsay977
      @toddramsay977 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TC-kf9zw go to Host Campers factory in Bend, OR. They make the frame and all. You just set the camper on the flatbed you buy on a 4x4 dual F550 or 5500 chassis truck. I suggest the CA=60 in but you can customize it in the front and have a garage, if you get the CA=84 instead.

      The too big point is when your truck can no longer handle the size safely and comfortably or you just can't handle driving it or you can't get into camping areas you want to get to. :D Other then that, can you ever have too much room? LOL!👍

      @@Stonyboot The only thing I noticed is the flatbed sat low on the tires so some added suspension work might need to be done. Also I have heard those 550’s suspension is absolutely atrocious also the handling and turning radius. I saw on an old video they only can reach about 80 mph full out so if that is true how bad is that going to kill your fuel mileage driving on highways and interstates. So many questions I have about it but I will wait till he gets them into production to reach out for information. The interior of it is amazing though. Lots of room. Reminds me of a Eagle Cap 1165 but even bigger by the looks of the open floor.

    • @philborchelt5396
      @philborchelt5396 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      What about Eagle Cap 1200 and 1165? Both are superior to Host. Lance had REALLY dropped in quality since they were bought out by Thor.

    • @avecruxspesunica2552
      @avecruxspesunica2552 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@philborchelt5396 Not sure about which is superior but I am very dissapointed in Host. Could be that Covid is the root caused of the bad quality, I really don't know. I think the Truck Camper industry just needs better competition. I've been very impressed with KingStar Campers except that they seem to be missing internal holding tanks. After living in my host camper for exactly one year I can honestly say that the camper is not four season... looking at the 1200/1165 Eagle Cap's website I noticed they claim four season... how has it handled the weather in your opinion? I live in Texas and the heat was brutal... my Demonic AC (Dometic - its soooo noisy that you can't watch a movie or even make a phone call) could barely keep up.. and last years winter in New Hamphire/Vermont was brutal too. Even with my issues, I really enjoy this lifestyle and judging by your videos you seem to be enjoying yourself too... happy camping & fishing🙂

    I love it.! Second I've always dreamed of having something like that. I do have an Okanagan truck camper sitting on a dodge 3500 that's pretty awesome.! But it definitely let me know about its limitations.! Number one it has a huge dry bath that I wish was a full wet math I would love to have all that space being used properly in a full wet that's because that's more practical than the cutesy stuff they try to make dry baths.! Plus I have always wanted a stove oven combination that also has a presto log burning section still allow me to burn a presto log in the camper and still have an oven and still have a stove ! Have always wanted to be a truck camper designer.! There was this company and I think it's in Southern California that makes a black tank waste burning system that's just awesome
