    Finally someone designed all the flaws out of these mowers. Pushing the reverse pedal forward is one, Getting rid of the Kohler 7000 series engine, separate throttle and choke levers, Battery up front gas tank and gas filler in the rear, and drive shaft. I just purchased the 30” cub Cadet. W/ bagger. The design of the grass catcher makes it very difficult to check the oil dip stic and check the air filter. I had to redesign the plastic lid under the seat so as to remove and check the oil and check the air filter. If I didn’t redesign this it is fururely impossible to check the oil or the air filter with the grass tub up the side. I have to remove the shoot to do this and it is hard to remove the grass tube just to check the oil.

    A few glimmers of hope for the future of garden tractors. A cast iron differential with a dipstick and apparent serviceability is promising. I wonder what the internals are like. My 1970 IH Cub Cadet 147 has an electric lift that still works, so need for folks to immediately dismiss the electrical options as gimmicky.

    I think most people would pretty much need a commercial application to justify the cost of these XT3’s. I bought the XT2 LX46 FAB SE with the 679 EFI and it’s all the machine I’ll ever need for any kind of domestic mowing, plus I pushed a snow with it last winter very satisfactorily using tire chains. I looked at the XT3 but couldn’t justify having to pay extra for the mowing deck on top of the high cost of the base machine, however they sure are a great looking mower.

    • @jamesholland1727

      Agree as have a XT2 and although the XT3 is tempting hard to justify the money to upgrade when the 2 does
      all the mowing I need in KY, just need to get rid of the seat cut off switch. Use it up north for plowing snow
      and getting off to reset the blade is a pain.

    Covered everything just like a product manual. How about an actual user performance review. Also would like to know how much torque the axel deliver? Can this pull ground engaging equipment such as a plow, discs, box scrapers, etc?

    • @TractorTread
      @TractorTread  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      i don't have a way to measure torque at the rear axle and the company doesn't provide that info. The tractor has a hitch at the rear and will tow a cart, i think i covered that in the video. Cub Cadet currently doesn't offer plows, discs, or box scrapers for the rear of this machine. There are some garden hobbyist and Cub Cadet clubs that use this equipment ,but i never have used this equipment on garden tractors besides doing a little tractor pulling with my older cubs. If i come across a plow maybe i'll toy around with it in another video but i sell equipment and haven't seen one for a garden tractor at our store in a couple years. So i'm not sure there would be enough interest for that video. Thanks.

    • @booobtooober
      @booobtooober 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TractorTread Right, I suppose torque is not the important question. I guess I'm trying to find out if it has the ability/durability to pull garden implements primarily a brinly plow as that would probably be the most stressful attachment on the transaxle

    • @TractorTread
      @TractorTread  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, i do like the differential lock for handling short distance slippage problems, wet areas, and small hills. The hydros have been trouble free but, I don't recall many people plowing with a hydro. Hydro models slipped when using them for tractor pulling. If the hydro slipped when plowing it would wear it out quick i would think. If your mowing or towing a cart they have been reliable, if your plowing a small garden find yourself an old gear model. Just my opinion.

      @TractorTread  5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The XT3 is a good traditional garden tractor for the home owner who is really not in a hurry to get the job done. One of the most reliable mowers from Cub Cadet is the Zforce SX48 steering wheel zero turn mower. The Kawasaki engine and fabricated deck with a blade speed of 18,000 rpm will give you a fast ground speed and a great cut. I have sold over 600 steering wheel zero turn machines and have a happy customer base.. Hope that info helps.

    Thank for the review. I’m wondering if this tractor can be equivalent to some of the older Cubcadets. I have an older 149 and 147 that I use as small tractors. They are just getting harder and harder to keep running. Looking for a new one.

    • @stever_beaver
      @stever_beaver 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I wouldnt say they are equal or comparable. These new ones have some nice features like the differential lock, power steering, ease of use, and are very comfortable to use. BUT they are not built as heavy duty as an IH built cub cadet. The old Kohler K series that ih used was the best small engine ever made and its proven itself over time. The transmissions and rear diffs were much much stronger then what is used today. The new cubs are mainly for mowing and snow removal. The old ih cubs were built as a do it all workhorse in a small package and they have deffinitely earned there reputation.

    • @JoshAllen17Goated
      @JoshAllen17Goated 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They are really similar tractors. Obviously the 147 is a little better made but the new one weigh a lot more, use heavier gauge steel frames, id actually say equivalent transmissions because these are basically the same trannys used in the later cyclops machines. And the older version of the xt3 the 2500 series were just as capable as the 147 because they both dont have hydraulics at least the ones ive seen. So they both use sleeve hitches and they both have some of the best engines kohler made.

      I bought the XT3 GSX solely because my backyard is nothing but a bumpy, uneven hill. I'd been mowing it with a push mower the past two years, and was getting burned out. I analyzed my yard and picked out a circuit that I believed would allow me to safely cut across and then downward. I reduce my throttle when I first turn down the slope and then increase once I get to a slighter angle. Straight up & down is what is recommended with a lawn tractor on slopes.

    My Cub Cadet is from 1967, I see they've made a few changes. lol But man is that a FAT price tag for one of those $6000 dollars out the door with no implements. I have to say thats a real hard sell considering the kind of engine and hydraulic steering I could affix to my 53 year old tractor with a 6 grand budget. Hell I could probably get the yellow bits gold plated along with my 200hp car engine swap. All theoretical spending aside, the XT3 is still 100 times better than a Crapstman (aka Husqvarna re-badged) And I can say that because along with my Cub Cadet I have a Crapstman, and Husqvarna! So I can call bullshit where I see it... The cub is the only one running and driving at the moment for reference. So I'm currently mowing my lawn with a 53 year old garden tractor running a 48" cut deck, with a (don't touch anything) safety sticker, to please the lawyers.

      Bob E Yea, that's almost a No-Go on this tractor. Its general purpose is to mow but they don't include a mowing deck with the tractor. For 5K that's a bit much. I've got a Cub LTX1040 I bought in 2011 for around $1800 which included the deck. It's starting to use oil and I use it to pull a variety of implements including a 36" DR Power Roto Hog tiller. The salesman at CD asked if I'd blown my transmission yet, lol. Told him no, it bogs down more mowing than tilling. For the price I'll probably go with the XT 2 model when I replace the 1040 although I like a lot of the features of the XT 3 like the sahft drive. Still not a fan of hydrostatic transmissions.

I initially replaced the old Craftsman GT with a newer Craftsman YT4000...that thing was a pile of junk, always had issues getting it started, would randomly shut itself off and not restart till it cooled down completely, seemed to really lack power for supposedly being a 24HP twin cylinder engine, it had less power than the old 18HP engine did.
