@@kiddfpv I'm sorry, I misspoke, they were banned in F1 in '94, they are still in use in F500 vehicles. Both use pretty specific rules on what you can do with a vehicle, and teams are always trying to push limits and see what can be done that the rules don't cover. It's probably my favorite thing about racing, the innovations that teams come up with (that often get banned in the following season) are usually things that eventually come into the consumer market in some form.

Just think about how easy these are to repair… you take one cover off your scooter its probably just 8 bolts and then you have one nut holding the front pulley and two holding the rear pulley together… after taking those off you can replace whatever you need, probably for cheaper than it would be to take your car transmission to the shop to get diagnosed

No bro- Jatco CVTs in Nissans and some older Chrysler products are just garbage. Take it from someone who worked on them. They were junk BEFORE they even programmed simulated shifting ratios into them. Bought an 08 Caliber and it killed it's 3rd CVT at 110k- it was a regular ass jatco CVT with no simulated shifts. My 2018 Corolla's CVT has programmed shifting and doesn't feel right anymore at 101k mi.
I used to think it was just Jatcos, but this recent Toyota experience has me convinced CVTs just suck for passenger cars.

CVT in scooters don't go via torque converter to connect with the ICE. They getaway with a centrifugal clutch. It's a dry setup and far more efficient than the torque converter. Torque converters with 1 way clutch included. I think some manufacturers even tried electro magnetic clutches to pair the ICE to the CVT.
The day will be, when the ISG from a mild hybrid takes over during stalling speeds allowing the ICE to be paired directly to the CVT without any clutch interface. That way Direct Drive would have finally arrived in the automobiles.

Same idea as CVT was used on the Massey-Harris Number 27 combine harvester.
It had two adjustable pulleys which were called sheaves.
They functioned in the same way as a CVT with the pulley halves opening and closing.
Forward speed was adjusted by setting the control lever to different positions.
The sheaves themselves were forced into position by springs.
The pulleys were connected by a very heavy belt. Slippage was taken care of by spraying some belt dressing on the belt. Very reliable technology.

On the edge of the front pulley there is a nest of rollers. The roller plays a role in adding/reducing torque to the cvt's energy.Scooter users can increase the amount of roller weight/decrease the amount of roller weight according to the suitability of the local road. The heavier the roller, the higher top speed. As the weight of the roller decreases, the engine power becomes stronger but the top speed decreases.
    Example:
    (1) If the road is hilly, scooter users can reduce the amount of roller weight to ensure the motor is powerful enough to climb the hilly road.
    (2) If the road is long, scooter users can increase the amount of roller weight to increase top speed.
THE TOTAL WEIGHT OF THE ROLLER IS DETERMINED ACCORDING TO THE SUITABILITY OF THE SURROUNDING ROADS
