    Politics is show business for the ugly. Hugh Grant was astute enough to recognise the way that sociopaths and narcissists create dual personalities to deny accountability and remorse for their deception, exploitation and abuse. One seems innocent, charming and convincing while the under belly plots and can perform duplicitous and horrendous acts of betrayal, greed and cruelty.

    They don't "love" themselves, that's the problem. Looking out only for their own interests isn't the same thing as loving themselves.

  • @thesebone5
    @thesebone5 3 ปีที่แล้ว +245

    Narcissism isn’t self-love, it’s actually the lack of sense of self.

    • @movingonandup322
      @movingonandup322 3 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      I believe its more like self-hate.

    • @thesebone5
      @thesebone5 3 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      Well that depends. There is no sense of self which is why they experience life through the eyes of others. They can only experience themselves through narratives. They will also identify themselves through their successes and failures. They can’t simply be themselves on a journey who experience both success and failure. So when they feel they’ve succeeded, they feel good and superior. If they feel that they’ve failed they can become suicidal. Regardless, their sense of success and so forth tends to be extremely superficial.

      @@erdelegy I think you're completely unaware of where Hugh is coming from with this statement. For the last couple of years Hugh has been a vocal advocate for Hacked Off and was himself instrumental in exposing the extent of the UK press' phone hacking on politicians, celebrities and crime victims. Grant wired himself to record a former news editor talking about phone hacking and bribery. This scandal exposed politicians getting bribes from the press and a widespread protection racket in exchange for favors. Press like News of the World were hacking into phones of not just celebrities and politicians but crime victims like murdered 13 yr old Millie Dowler whose phone was hacked. That incident impeded the investigation on her death and there may have been messages that were erased by NOTW. Grant exposed the fact that politicians knew about these hacks and did nothing about it. All this led to the Leveson inquiry where Grant testified that his flat was broken into multiple times, phones and emails hacked, and his medical records published on tabloids. He's also campaigned for media reform in the UK because the UK press has so much control on who gets the win. Part of his cynicism is that while politicians have promised change, they backed out of it the minute Rupert Murdoch and his allies threaten them.
